  1. Are you really turning this into a Miller thread? The point of the post is that I didn't understand why he wasn't willing to waive, I wasn't questioning his right to refuse.
  2. I don't get it. He's not going to be here next year, so refusing to waive is only buying him a few months of not having to move. Not to mention this could be a chance for him to chase a cup. Almost seems like he's intentionally trying to dick us around.
  3. If we move Bone, I'd like to try and move him for a good, young, right handed 3C that can take some of Bo's defensive minutes and free him up for more Ozone deployment.
  4. All of those guys were free agent signings. I'm really not as worried about finding someone for the third pairing or someone to play with OEL as I am finding a long term partner for Hughes. I'm an ideal world, if the Rags coughed up Schneider in the package for Miller and we moved Boeser to the Pens for Marino, our blueline would be set for the foreseeable future. Hughes- Schneider OEL- Marino Rathbone- Schenn(?)
  5. Forget about moving OEL. That contract is an albatross that no team will ever touch.
  6. Interesting idea. But as far as trading for a defenseman goes, I really think we should be putting our focus on trying the find a long term partner for Hughes. Finding a young, top 4 RD that can play in his own end is absolutely imperative for this franchise going forward. I really don't think Lundqvist is that guy.
  7. To put it bluntly, he's small. If we're assuming both he and and Rathbone make the jump within the next two years, we would have three sub-six foot defensemen on our blueline, and small bluelines don't win cups.
  8. We'll see. I'm all for a move if the package includes an ace prospect. I just feel that right now execs value longevity more than a chance to go all in right now.
  9. Why is that disrespectful? I don't think his skillset is what this roster is in need of. I didn't say he was a bad player, just not what we need.
  10. Geez, what a scumbag. He always seemed like a decent dude when he was kicking around here, but holy hell. Good riddance.
  11. I like that this has become another Miller thread. Soon every thread will be a Miller thread. Just like every thread became a thread about management when Benning was GM.
  12. Might just be talking out of my ass here, but I get the impression that teams are capping themselves on what they're willing to let go of right now, which is why I don't think we'll be looking at a much lesser return than what was rumored from the Rags earlier if we wait until next year's deadline, at which point management should have a pretty clear idea of what Miller's intentions are. He will not walk to free agency for nothing, that much I will guarantee.
  13. People seem to forget that we only have Petey locked up for a couple more years. GMs have a lot more to take into consideration than asset management. Keeping the players that are deemed "untouchable" content is a priority that has to be considered as well. Considering Petey's "I want to play for a winner" comments that he made before signing his contract, it seems pretty safe to say that he likely isn't willing to take a step back. If this team is nowhere by the time he's due for his next contract, there's a good chance he asks for a trade, or at the very least doesn't take any sort of a "hometown discount".
  14. Considering a lot of the talk now seems to about how bad his contract might look when it nears its end and not the return, it sure as he'll looks like some folks are willing to dump him for whatever they can get. And is it unreasonable to assume that, in a flat cap era, teams likely aren't willing to cough up A+ prospects that will be on valuable ELCs for thr next couple of years? Perhaps I've spent too much time on the general section of HFboards as of late, but I imagine Av and Rag fans have a better idea of what players and prospects their respective teams deem untouchable than we do. If the Rags cough up Schneider or the Avs cough up Newhook I'll eat the appropriate amount of crow, but I just don't see it happening
  15. To be honest, I don't think GMs, presidents or owners care as much about cups as they do about longevity. There interests are different than ours. Most folk here would probably take one Stanley Cup if it meant 10 years of mediocrity, but we don't have a financial stake in the franchise like they do. On a completely unrelated note, I think it's asinine that you can't retain on a specific number of years of a contract any more. We'd see a lot more deadline action and probably more teams willing to go all in if the retention rules were more flexible.
  16. The league economy won't look the same when the contract nears it's end. 9 million dollars in 2022 isn't the same as 9 million dollars in 2030. There was a post a week or so ago examining these types of contracts, and it indicated that players of Miller's caliber can generally continue to produce at a top 6 clip well into their mid 30's. If we don't get the package we're looking for, I'm willing to take the chance. I get the distinct impression that Rutherford is too, since Miller has essentially been taken off the trade market for now. I trust one of the most successful NHL execs of this era more than anyone on this board.
  17. Welp, I don't feel like going back through hundreds of pages, but it was absolutely suggested that we take the rumored Kratsov/Lundqvist/1st package for Miller, which for a player of Miller's caliber is absolutely scraps. No team will give up their A prospects with the league economy looking the way it does. If im wrong, great. Sell him. But it's not happening. Potential impact players on ELCs are far too valuable to contending teams, which would be the only teams interested in Miller to begin with. Any suggestion of moving him now is automatically a suggestion that we dump him for less than he's worth. At the end of the day, I'll trust Rutherford's judgement over anyone on this board, regardless of what he does.
  18. Offers are most certainly not that. Teams are willing to move B prospects and late firsts. A+ prospects aren't going anywhere. Impact players on ELCs are too valuable to contending teams. We will never get full value for Miller. Trading him means trading him for scraps, guaranteed.
  19. Haven't you heard? If we don't move him for the scraps being offered now and choose to resign him instead, this franchise is doomed for the next decade. We will become the Coyotes of tomorrow and and the franchise will probably be sold.
  20. I guess that's about what Miller would have been worth had he continued at his status quo pace and not turned Super Saiyan this season
