[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
48MPHSlapShot replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Might not be popular, but I'm really starting to open up to the idea of moving on from Bo, assuming we can land a defensively top tier 3C in the offseason somehow. Just an example of how I'd try and format the team next season. To Boston Horvat To Vancouver Carlo Debrusk _______________ To Pittsburgh Boeser Poolman (I wish) To Vancouver Marino Kapanen ________________ To Whoever Myers To Vancouver Cap space ________________ Try and get rid of Dickinson Hamonic for whatever we can get and try to land a really defensively sound 3C that's good in the dot. Not super concerned with offense so long as they can chip in once in a while. Pearson- Miller- Kapanen Hoglander- Pettersson- Garland DeBrusk- 3C - Podkolzin Motte- Lammiko- Highmore Hughes- Carlo OEL- Marino Rathbone- Schenn Demko Just a thought. -

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

If he does get moved, I think it will end up being at next year's deadline, and I don't think it will be for a package significantly less than the rumored Rags package a few weeks ago. -

Shouldn't whether or not something is the right move be dependant on the type of return he would theoretically get? -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

I highly doubt it. You can quote me on this if I'm wrong, but I doubt whether or not we move Miller is dependant on how the stretch of games before the deadline go. I'm willing to bet it's already decided that, barring an insane offer, Miller stays put -
Welp...

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Then we get a bigger puck mover that can also hold up his end of things in his own end. No settling. Get the right pieces. Doesn't much matter now anyways. Miller has effectively played himself off of the trade market. -
Miller might hit 100 points this year. He's effectively played himself out of the trade market in the best way possible. He's legitimately become one of the best players in the league.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

That would be two small, offensive Dmen in their top 4. How many recent cup winners have two sub six foot Dmen on their rosters, let alone in their top 4? -

Agreed. Roster redundancies have played a big part in the organizations struggles. It's not just about getting pieces, it's about getting the right pieces. -
We could always try and attach him to a bigger deal involving Boeser this year or Miller next year, although it would mean a lesser return and eating some short term cap.

[Rumour] Tyler Motte drawing interest
48MPHSlapShot replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I'm gonna play it safe and guess that Motte's agent is going to announce that Motte is retiring from hockey after this season to pursue his dream of catching the Loch Ness Monster. -
I feel pretty embarassed about being happy with the trade when it first happened. Gift of hindsight and all that, but holy crap he has been absolutely useless. On a team full of bad contracts his might be the worst in terms of bang for your buck. OEL has that albatross contract, but as of right now he's still a damn good top four defenseman. Poolman's contract is terrible and probably a pure cap dump, but his position alone dictates that he is more valuable than Dickinson. Dickinson literally provides nothing to this team.

Just because a player is eating 20 minutes a night doesn't mean they should be. MDZ and Pouliot ate that ice time on one of the worst teams in the league. Marino eats that ice time on a much better team. Schenn is playing above himself right now, and kudos to him for doing so, but is anybody really expecting him to be able to do this for the next several years? Myers isn't getting any younger and, with another good righty on the team, it may help give us an opportunity to shed his salary as a deadline acquisition next year and get a solid piece for him.
-
It appears to me that he's pretty solid wherever he's deployed, which is something our blueline desperately needs. Someone we can feel safe with no matter what position he's in. It also should be noted that his 17 points this year would make him our 2nd highest scoring defenseman. And he proved on his rookie season that he has more to give. It also needs to be noted that Boeser's value is at an all time low right now. He's having his worst season and has a 7.5 million dollar qualifying offer, and unless he's willing to negotiate for a deal that pays him a lot less than his QO, we'll be stuck paying him that amount if we don't trade him
-
We tried picking up RD in free agency and now we have a right side of Myers, Hamonic, Poolman and Schenn, one of whom is overpaid by two million dollars and two of which are pure cap dumps at this point (Hamonic debatable though). I can understand wanting picks, but young, quality, cost controlled right D that can play in their own end are such a commodity right now that if you have a chance at one, you bloody well take it.

I wouldn't go that far. Boeser is a legitimate first line contributer most seasons, and was probably our best overall player last year. That said, we do have a tendency to get the most out of supposed "middle six" players. Miller was a middle six player before he was traded here and now he's one of the top forwards in the league. Pearson was able to salvage his career with us as well. Being on our roster and being given a top 6 role might very well be what he needs to get to that next level, or at the very least find the level of production that he at last year.
