[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
48MPHSlapShot replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
C'mon dude... -
We're looking for righties that can play in their own end as well, and Marino fits the bill. He plays 20+ minutes a night, his corsi is decent despite being deployed in the D zone 60% of the time, he throws a decent amount of hits, and his giveaway/takeaway ratio is pretty decent too. It's worth noting that he was also in the Calder hunt a few years ago. Kap is there as a young, cost controlled option to mitigate the loss of Boeser. Saying he's a "third liner at best" isn't really fair. His production indicates to me that he's what I would consider a middle six forward, probably closer to being a 2nd liner than a 3rd liner, although probably a 3rd liner on a contender.

Boeser for Marino + Kapanen makes a ton of sense. On general HF the Pen fans seem to be okay with something like this too.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Anything that doesn't include either Schneider or Laff would be an absolute non starter for me. In regards to whether or not guaranteeing to a player that he won't be moved is a good idea or not, I really can't say. Being given that peace of mind by management may go a long ways towards getting him resigned if that is indeed the plan. Point is I'm pretty sure he realizes that he's not being moved right now -

If Schneider is the deal breaker for us, and the Rags straight up told us "There's no chance we're moving Schneider, I'd say that qualifies as a 100% chance. -

Considering what the rumored Rags offer was and how unwilling teams seemingly are to move their top prospects, I doubt anyone is going to be blowing our socks off with an offer. -

I'm willing to bet that it's already been told to him that he won't be getting moved. -
(Rumors) Canucks Trade Deadline Betting Odds

It seems like every year we're waiting for the big shoe to drop and it almost never does. -
He entered the league as a near PPG top line player. How much better did you realistically expect him to get?
-
Players have good seasons and bad seasons. You can't expect a player to constantly stay at the exact same pace or better every season. Every player has their ups and downs, but looking at the overall picture Brock has been very consistent in terms of production, only really hitting a wall this year. I might have been a bit more willing to say that he was regressing had he not had arguably his best season last year. Overall this season is far more of an outlier for him in terms of production than any of his previous seasons, which leaves me to believe that this year is likely an anomaly.
-
Bad seasons? Outside of this year his offensive output has been quite consistent, despite injuries.

We also have to consider the economic landscape of the league. While it is true that Miller's value will likely never be higher, it's also true that this is probably the worst time for teams to be trying to move star players for high end prospects. Potential impact players on ELCs are more valuable than they've ever been in the flat cap era, and teams simply aren't willing to give those players up for a big ticket item like Miller. Ultimately I think it's all but guaranteed that Miller stays put for now. -

I think these odds are pretty inflated imo. I give Miller being moved around a 10% chance of happening. I give a Garland move about a 15% chance of happening. Boeser I have at about 30%. Horvat I have at about 5%. Pearson I have at around 15%. I have Motte at about 30%. Halak I think their odds are about right. I'm going to say 2-3 moves are coming. Boeser being the big one, and Halak and maybe Schenn being the minor ones. -

Why not? If the Aves can make a move for a high end center prospect that can come in and contribute right away on his ELC, which they have the pieces to make happen, why would that not be preferable to giving up the sun and the moon for a player that, while great, is going to force them to make changes to their cup contending roster that they absolutely won't want to make? -

It would make more sense for them to try and nab a high end center prospect on an ELC to fill that role in a prospect for prospect trade then it would to lose one or more valuable ELC contracts for a guy thats going to eat millions in cap. -

I was hoping for Newhook in the 2019 draft. Happy with Podz, but Newhook was my guy. I doubt Colorado parts with him though. High end players coming into the league on entry level contracts are more valuable than they've ever been with the cap not going up. Covid has changed the economics of the game, and no team is going to give up an A+ prospect like Newhook right now. -

The question then becomes "How much less?" If, for example, the price now is a first, a top prospect and an impact player, but the price next year would only be the first and the prospect, it might still be worth it to management to see if they can get him resigned. -

Between BB's endorsement and other teams seemingly unwilling to move their top prospects, my gut is telling me it's not happening either way. Regardless of whether it's the right move or not, I'll go so far as to say I guarantee he's not being moved at deadline this year. You have full permission to rub my face into it for the rest of time if I'm wrong, but I really don't think I am. -

I wouldn't worry about it. I get the sense that there's virtually zero chance Miller is moved at the deadline this year. -
It all depends on what he's willing to do. If wants to stay and understands that the year he's had doesn't justify his QO, then he should be willing to negotiate. If he just wants to get paid, then we move him at the deadline.

It all depends on what's being offered. Poor allocation of assets has been as big a part of killing our team as anything. With Miller, we have time. It's not just about gaining assets, it's about gaining the right assets. If those assets aren't available now, then we can afford to wait. If those assets don't become available, and management is convinced that they can resign Miller and that he'll be an effective player long into his contract, then maybe we don't move him at all. I trust our management to make the right call, regardless of what that call is. -

So who's going to kill penalties then? Scheifele is a great player, better than Bo, but he doesn't kill penalties. Bo does. Who takes Bo's place on the PK if this trade happens?
