  1. Heh, could've been worse... Norris, etc could have been traded to another team in the division.
  2. Stroman Estrada Dickey Happ Hutch/Chavez The signing makes them deeper (a must) and adds a much needed lefty. But is it too much to ask for a bonafide ace? (It's too early to anoint that title to Stroman). More and more it looks as if Sanchez and Osuna will be in the pen. With the exception of Hutchinson, I don't see any of those guys above getting traded.
  3. I think this ensures Osuna and Sanchez are staying in the pen. But, yeah, I would think what Hendricks can do in the bullpen is more valuable than what Chavez can do as the swing man, which begs the question of why make the trade. Only thing I can think of is Lacava/Shapiro really wanted more SP depth. Gotta believe they're not done with the rotation...it's begging for a solid lefty.
  4. While I agree that is a lot for Rasmus, I'm not surprised this is the first qualifying offer to be accepted. Most players that deserve a QO are often good enough to deserve a multi year deal.
  5. Beeston's end date had been set well in advance, I believe. Pretty sure this was going to be his last season, no matter what. Perhaps everything seems rushed since the Blue Jay season went a longer than everyone thought. I still can't shake the feeling that the Blue Jays are only going to sign one pitcher of relevance (and Estrada could be the one and only) and then close the cheque book. Hmmm, I guess they can always convert Chad Peddington into a reliever...
  6. Correction, a qualifying offer has to be 15.8 million. Still, a lot of money for a guy coming off a career year. Personally, as long as it's 1 year, he's totally worth qualifying at the very least. If he accepts, can think of worse pitchers to spend 15.8 million on.
  7. Just looked up the rules and they plainly stated I believe that 125 average is 16.8mil as that was the number used when talking about qualifying Estrada. So, unless the Jays send Navarro a crazy qualifying offer, they won't get compensation. ...and that's a crazy high number for the average of the 125 highest paid players, yowza
  8. Don't know the rules 100%, but depending on the qualifying offer, the Jays would get compensation for Estrada. I don't think they get compensation for Price or Lowe (I believe because they were brought in through trade late this year). Navarro and Buehrle, I have no idea.
  9. The comments AA made about him "not having to be a GM" makes me wonder if, with a young family, he wants to have a little less responsibility right now. Just a thought, my guess is the answer couldn't be boiled down to any one thing though.
  10. 75% of me goes with Cleveland North, the other 25% goes with AA wanted a little bit of a break for his family and himself. With Rogers coming out and being firm on the $140 mil total perhaps AA saw the writing on the wall and seeing losing everything he has made crash to the ground in a year when EE and JB need to be reupped and JD's expenses spiraling up. 140mil won't cut it for this team in 2017. It barely cuts it for 2016. Price and Estrada better be back (or adequate replacements back for them) because this team has a one year window. Money could very easily extend this window but I don't think Rogers will allow it.
  11. It isn't that easy. No MLB is going to trade a bonafide top 1-2 pitcher for a bat...well maybe Donaldson. EE, JB, Tulo? All have to approve trades but even if they did aren't going to bring in a 200 IP/20 win type pitcher.
  12. I still can't shake the feeling that the Jays are going to enter the season with a righty laden starting rotation of Stroman, Dickey, Sanchez, Osuna, and Hutchinson and a bullpen that has Brett Cecil as its closer. They'll still have the best offense in baseball, but the Jays will finish a distant 3rd in the AL East as Shapiro decides to "develop" the exciting young arms.
  13. They would be dumb not to pick up the options on EE and Bautista, after this year however.... When it comes to the starting rotation and bullpen I get this nagging feeling that Rogers is going to cheap out again. I hope I'm wrong since the difference between contending next year and not is some money.
  14. Reports are out on sportsnet.ca that AA is leaving and that it wasn't over money....
  15. I'm not so sure if Tulo is so easy to replace. We all saw how different this team was defensively with Tulo over Reyes. Yeah, Goins can provide the glove but Tulo is only going to get better with the bat in the AL. EE, is a 10 and 5 player, so he has the right to vito any trade. Could be tough to trade him. I agree though, he probably makes the most sense of the bunch to trade and in a perfect world you can get a premier left handed 1B through free agency to replace him.
  16. I guess he is just 20. For me it would take a closer they know will be more dependable than Osuna. I don't see that happening any time soon. 3/4 years from now you never know.
  17. I think we are all aware that EE and especially JB are getting up there. With there contracts both expiring soon, it would be sad, but those are fairly easy holes to fill (especially 1B) through free agency if needed. Having a good hitting lefty to fit in or around the big righties would be nice but, this year, would require trading away one of their big righties most likely. Something I don't see happening (I wouldn't trade Tulo and I believe EE has to approve any trades). Starting pitching will have to be the primary concern. Assuming Price walks and Buerhle retires, that would leave no lefties in the rotation. Finding arms to fill the top 5 rotation spots won't be too difficult but finding at least one good left-handed option could prove troublesome. As for the pen, I'd keep Osuna as the closer. He was pretty darn successful this year, to say the least, and bullpen arms can be so fickle, you can never know what you'll get through free agency. If Sanchez stretches back out into the rotation I hope Lowe can be kept. I'd be happy with a Cecil/Lowe combo as the 7/8 men. Adding two more dependable arms, one right/one left, to Hendricks and Loup and that has the makings of a pretty good bullpen.
  18. Closers better than Osuna was this year are VERY few and far between. Miller was available last off-season but I'd argue he's not much better than Osuna (if at all). Papelbon was available around the trade deadline at a high price...he wouldn't have been the 7th inning guy in our pen. Sorry Osuna didn't match Rivera in his prime numbers this year, but Osuna as closer is one of the least of their offseason worries.
  19. Not sure if anyone read the article, but all hail Tulo's glove!
  20. Both. Keep Goins as the super utility man if you can. With Tulo's injury history and a dubious start to Travis's injury history, Goins will get his starts.
  21. The Jays didn't bunt in that situation because they needed 3 runs. When you need three runs you don't give any outs away.
  22. So with Yost's comments about how he's gonna pitch inside, what's the over/under on batter's hit this series; 12? 16? Prediction: Jose Bautista gets plunked his first AB and in Edlerian fashion Aaron Sanchez gets ejected for some reason.
  23. Rangers have a few lefties sprinkled in their line up so I'm sure we'll see Loup but possibly only for a batter at a time.
  24. I'd set that as the rotation too. For the speed changes, like you said, but also to have Dickey pitch at Rogers Centre. He's better at Rogers centre (well, in the 2nd half of the season he's been good everywhere). Love what Stroman is doing. He's going to be a special player.
