[GDT] Around the NHL | March (19-25) 2023

Moral must be terrible after the trade deadline. They were one of the hotter teams and then Yzerman cut them down at the knees. Hopefully this rolls into next year too. -

I know the Canucks benefitted from the loophole in 2011, but it is beyond me why the NHL hasn't changed the fact that the salary cap doesn't apply in the playoffs. Doesn't make sense to me whatsoever. -
If we win Bedard what’s your next move?

I tried....I couldn't -
Case in point, the idea of drafting a RHD partner for Hughes. What's an appropriate age for a pretty much fully developed defenseman, 23? (Developed to the extent where you know what you have). If that's the case, Hughes will be 28 and nearing the end of his prime.

One word to describe the organization's 8 years of retooling.

Savage...but also 100% correct. -
Luke Schenn leaves the organization 187th in all-time Canuck scoring. Not bad numbers really. 185. Dave Lowry LW 165 19 21 40 186. Jim Nill RW 124 17 23 40 187. Luke Schenn D 139 8 32 40 188. Jerry Butler RW 128 19 20 39 189. Nick Bonino C 75 15 24 39 190. Linden Vey RW 116 14 25 39 191. Tracy Pratt D 176 9 30 39

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Dallas Stars | Feb. 27, 2023

This really is a good way of putting it. It really seems management is doing most things in its power to tank. But within that some things are still important. 1) Players still need to earn their ice time. Although I'll nitpick, 4+ means for Raty seems harsh 2) It is best for Demko to get some playing time this year. Obviously he has to be 100% healthy, but not playing in an NHL game until next October would not be good for him. -

Cheer for the wins, take the silver linings in the losses. Simple as that. -

Pitchers don't have time to regroup either. This could hurt some that like to take that extra moment from time to time. -

Lockwood exits the organization tied for 519th in all-time Canuck scoring. 519. Jim Agnew D 65 0 1 1 Alek Stojanov RW 62 0 1 1 John Garrett G 56 0 1 1 Mike Weaver D 55 0 1 1 Peter Skudra G 46 0 1 1 Darren Langdon LW 45 0 1 1 Robin Bartel D 40 0 1 1 Anders Nilsson G 39 0 1 1 Curtis Sanford G 35 0 1 1 Wendell Young G 30 0 1 1 William Lockwood RW 28 0 1 1 Braden Holtby G 21 0 1 1 Jalen Chatfield D 18 0 1 1 Granted he wasn't here for his offence but when you're producing at a similar rate to back up goalies.... Always interesting to see where his 28 career games put him as a Canuck. I sort my binder for games played (regular season + playoffs)

Agree. In the past we'd have been giving up a 2nd. Chances are neither player makes a huge impact from this trade, but the Canucks are getting the player with a higher pedigree/ceiling. Good luck to Lockwood, he was a soldier for this organization. Being American, I'm sure he's happy with this trade too.

If you know you want Tocchet anyway, and he's available, why delay it? Get a jump start next year and figure out sooner who may thrive under Tocchet and who won't. It probably happened a little sooner because the information leaked out but I think it's better that Tocchet is here before the end of the season.
