[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at St. Louis Blues | Feb. 23, 2023
Wilbur replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I get the frustration from some fans, I really do. This team has made a habit of winning when the pressure is off and wilting when the pressure is on. I want to believe now, more than ever, that the front office won't be fooled by a late season resurgence. This team is what it is and that the changes that need to be made (and can be made) will. With all that said, rebuilding this defence is going to be hard and I don't know what short cuts are out there. As far as tanking, not sure what more can be done. Other than Schenn not sure if there are any other easy contracts to get rid of (that we don't want to keep during all this). Numerous people have been shut down for the season. The only thing I find curious is that Tocchet hasn't been rolling 4 lines like a true tank. All in all, during these times, I always cheer for the wins, but take the silver linings in each loss. It's the "low expectations" version of a win/win situation -
If there was an example of a player that was before their time.. His skills and speed would've translated well to today's game.

Gotta admit, I had to look up who Jorgen Pettersson was. Had no idea. -

Are there rules about not hitting into the net? That's the only thing that makes me uneasy about the hit. -

The fact that he's still wearing a hockey glove while eating the banana makes it more hilarious. -
It's as if James Corden and Jimmy Fallon adopted a Russian baby and got him to play hockey

I was at that game, first Abby Canucks game for me, and that hit was so pointless. The Wranglers team should have taken Gilbert out back and beaten him with a shoe. The game was winding down, the Canucks were just as happy to wind down the clock as the Wranglers and then Gilbert does that. This puts a potential target on every Wranglers back for the remainder of the game due to possible retribution. Gutless, classless hit. Calgary should cut/demote him.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Andrei Kuzmenko
Wilbur replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I keep a spreadsheet of Canuck stats, and update it every game (pretty much, sometimes there is a backlog of games). I know it's all online, but I do it for fun (yes, I'm a dork). But this reminds me of my teen years, scouring through those record books/almanacs for players that played with the Canucks so I could create my first Canuck stats spreadsheet. I was super stoked when I got the Hockey Encyclopedia that came out in the late 90s for my birthday, that was when I could actually have it 100% filled. Lol, I also remember updating hockey pool stats from newspaper boxscores....ah the simpler days. -
A couple of apples last night moves #43 into 41st in all-time Canuck scoring 40. Bobby Schmautz RW 285 108 104 212 41. Quinn Hughes D 247 23 184 207 42. Curt Fraser LW 348 92 114 206

It's going to be hard to pry those players away from contending teams. They need cheap, entry level players, making key contributions more than they need a more expensive Horvat. Not that they couldn't use Horvat, but I don't see them giving up their best prospect that could contribute to the NHL roster on a entry level cap hit. It's not as easy a trade as it should be.

Myers' goal over the weekend moved him into 120th in all-time Canuck scoring, sandwiched between 119. Jim Benning D 241 15 55 70 120. Tyler Myers D 244 14 56 70 121. Ben Hutton D 276 11 59 70

[Official] Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball thread
Wilbur replied to The Stork's topic in Off-Topic General
Agree. I have no problems with him being a depth bat...but that seems awfully expensive for a depth bat. I know Gurriel played a bit at first, but they do have Biggio that is fine there. Makes you wonder if another move is to be made there? I hope the don't ship Biggio out before we can see how he does when opponents can't shift him.
