  1. Lost satellite signal in the last scene of tonight's Breaking Bad...so now I'm watching the encore presentation to see what I missed

  2. Frank(ie) Corrado has a verified account on twitter and Eddie Lack doesn't. What is this world coming to?

Corrado has more NHL experience than Lack...the only ones who REALLY know about Eddie Lack are the ones following him on Twitter/CDC users.

What is this world coming to when people care about this?

  3. How to people drink Candian whiskey? It's kinda awful compared to any half decent bourbon here in the States.

Well, it's mostly about price, you can't compare a 200$ bottle to a 30$ one..

I've had $300 whiskey and it's like water going down the hatch. I'm still a fan of a good $60 Scotch on the rocks though.

Love single malts myself although I prefer to drink them neat.

  4. Finally set a squat PR today. 305x5. It took 21 months to go from 305x4 to 305x5. A lot of that time was wasted trying to learn a high bar squat, and a solid 9 months was losing weight. I weighed 218 when I squatted 305x4. Today I weighted in at 196. Setting a squat PR at 22lbs less BW is a fairly big accomplishment, IMO. Still a lot of work to do to hit 405x1 before Jan. 1, 2014.
  5. Third night bartending...I think I'm getting the hang of what I'm supposed to be doing

not bad...the place I'm bartending pays min. wage plus tips so it's not bad. Plus the people I have training me are cool. The hardest part is learning the names of regulars. Damn I'm bad with that, LOL.

  6. Dear God, tonight's episode of Breaking Bad was just fantastic

such a predictable outcome though, kind of disappointed.

  7. Yep, this. Not much point in doing sets of 10 if you don't already have a solid base of strength (i.e. can do 405+ for 1). Why ass to grass? It doesn't really recruit any more musculature and it requires relaxation of the lumbar spine and hamstrings to reach that depth. You're better off squatting to just below parallel (hip crease just below top of the knee) because you can keep the lumbar spine tight and the hamstrings under tension. Plus you can move more weight. Just my opinion though.
  8. It most likely has to do with motor coordination and whatnot. I'm sure if you did the movement for 6-8 weeks you would see an improvement. No, the back leg helps more than you think. What is your squat at?
  9. Sweet pair of shoes. One downside is that they cannot be re-soled, so you have to pony up for another pair once the soles are shot.
  10. A proper pair of shoes are a must for any serious lifter. I have a pair of Rouge Do-Wins that I absolutely love for squatting. What kind did you get?
  11. Wouldn't worry about it. If your BB and DB pressing strength are going up, you're headed in the right direction.
  12. With Tanev and Alberts signed, should MG make a play for Danny Cleary?

I still think we need one NHL-proven faceoff winner in the bottom 6 ie. Steckel. JS is below 50% and Richardson has a small sample size.

Why Cleary? Can anchor a spot on the 4th line, play up the lineup in the event of injury, and gives the 2nd PP unit some teeth

i love cleary's grit but i want the canucks to play an uptempo game and cleary's skating has fallen off quite a bit.

  13. Brendan Gaunce always seems so serious...Toews lite?

  14. You know what else Gaunce has that is exactly like Kesler? A very quick, hard, and accurate wrist shot. I can see Gaunce being a 3rd line center who plays top PP minutes because of his shot.
  15. This being single thing is weird after 2 years

  16. How much arch and leg drive are you getting? If your arch is inconsistent, that can have a big impact on performance. I'd also bench 2x per week. Monday would be 5x5 for "volume". Friday would be "intensity" where you work up to a 5rm and add 5lbs per week. Monday would be ~85% of Friday, and I'd start Friday at ~10% less than your 5RM so you can get a lot of momentum going before reaching PR territory again.
  17. It's not a big deal. Think of it as a "refeed" and move on. Getting hung up on these kind of things when not competing is pretty useless. If it becomes a habit (binging/eating like crap every week), then worry about it.
  18. Those things are going to make the bar harder to hold because of added thickness. Spend $20 to buy a pair of wrist wraps. Plus, your hands will benefit from not wearing gloves.
  19. Yeah, a kid he played on the 4th line kicked the arses of all his shiny toy top 10 picks, that's why.
  20. Depends on if you're talking squat, deadlift, bench strength, or strongman (pick stuff up and move it) style strength. Short people definitely have a leverage and ROM advantage for powerlifting. The easiest way to improve your PL total is to figure out how to shorten the ROM as much as possible and stay within the rules, and thus shorter people naturally have an advantage. It's no coincidence that the best PLers ever, IMO, Kirk Karwoski and Ed Coan were both 5' 8" or shorter and 220+ (can you say PEDs). In contrast, the best Strongmen are all 6' 2" or more. The nature of strongman mostly relies on deadlifting and other "pulling" strength. Guys with long arms tend to be good deadlifters, and therefore good strongmen. This only applies to the heavyweight strongmen (200+ LOL, all the competitive guys are 280+). In the lightweight (<200lb division) of strongman, power midgets reign supreme. To recap: Yes, short people have an ROM advantage, but that doesn't mean tall people can't also get really strong. I use a rosin bag. Similar to chalk but a bit tackier. I swear it adds 50lbs to my deadlift because I can hold onto much more weight before grip becomes an issue.
  21. Yay for being unemployed. Writing cover letters and doing job apps. Fun Friday.

I am. Been looking for a bit, but it's nigh impossible for a kid 1 year out of college to find a job. In addition, I don't know what I want an advanced degree in...I have too many interests

  22. Pause squats are awesome. And by awesome I mean really fracking hard.
  23. I like the potential that lineup has. A lot of players can move up or down the lineup depending on game situations (imperative for playoffs, IMO) and the 4th line could take 10-12 minutes with realative ease, although I don't think the Canucks want to pay Higgins 2.5 mil to play the 4th line.
  24. It's going to be a caffeinated day. Shouldn't have stayed up so late watching The Departed

  25. It's going to be interesting to see how the Packers do this year. Like the Canucks, lots of questions and IFs about what this team could do (because they on paper are a favorite). I hope the offensive line is better than it has been the last 5 years. Rodgers is an incredible QB, but I'm afraid the number of times he is hit and sacked may cut 3-5 years off his career, not to mention how fracked the team is if he gets a concussion and misses more than 1 game.
