  1. Olli Jokinen is his head coach which is something he has going for him. At least Jurmo should play top 6 minutes with Jukurit of Liiga.
  2. Motte is the one that has to get exposed. Seattle isn’t going to be drooling over Canada’s worst teams 4th liner. Holtby is the shiniest gem since that Toronto save and if he goes to the World Championships. It could appear he’s playing with trash rather than he himself being trash.
  3. And you have to play like that in the playoffs. The regular season games is where you build the chemistry, clean up mistakes so you can master the playing style when you have to play in a 7 game series. It's a process obviously, you can't flick a switch and become a great team. It'll take a disappointing season, some learning experiences (like Edler), but the team should talk about how they plan on reacting after physical altercations.
  4. We're not losing games because of penalties. We're losing games because we are playing like trash. They play soft too, look at the goals against. It's because of weak, soft defensive plays. Or it's a breakdown in the system because it's a bunch of new players in the line-up. You are paranoid about the league, that's your problem.
  5. And? It depends if you want to see the same culture as the post-Bertuzzi era or a new culture that resembles a hockey team. A penalty in a single regular season game is not a big deal, it's not like we won the game anyways against Toronto. We lost and got beat up. At least the Sedins punished teams on the PP sometimes.
  6. We need that Utica's response to defending teammates in Vancouver.
  7. Motte's a 4th liner. That line isn't generating enough offence to be a 2nd line. Keep Motte on the 4th line, we need Gadjovich/Lind/UFA/Draft to step into the top 9 Flank Miller with Lind and Gadjovich. We still have Virtanen laying around.
  8. Weisbrod had a lot of good things to say about Jonah Gadjovich. Makes the work environment safer, "hard" player.
  9. Washington-Boston is an old school rivalry. They're going to hate each other for a while, Wilson, Hathaway vs Ritchie, Tinordi, and Wagner.
  10. Those are just 2 young prospects trying to make an impression. Lockwood with the hit, showing intensity and Lauko with the scrap to show honor for his teammates. The AHL is basically full of young players now, teams maybe carry 2-3 veteran tough guys incase they are required. I guess that's better for the skill/speed of the game.
  11. If this game is not competitive, you can basically guarantee that Gary will never let us see another Stanley Cup Finals, nevermind a Cup.
  12. There's hardly any news, only journalists taking turns spreading rumours. Media picks Virtanen as the trade chip because fans are attached to the hometown kid. He is most definitely not the worst forward we have out there, there's plenty of worse cap dumps people can complain about.
  13. This guy will feast on Jordie Benn and Olli Juolevi. Montreal, Edmonton are probably the top 2 Canadian teams for me.
  14. Agree on Stecher. I like him on the 3rd pairing, killing penalties and used against 2nd-4th lines. I consider Tanev #1 and Myers #2. Stecher may be too rich for the 3rd pairing depending on his next contract so it could make sense to look to trade him this year. I have no complains if we re-sign Tanev. A 3rd pairing RD should not be expensive nor hard to find, so we can wait on Woo to be a strong 3rd pairing NHLer on his ELC hopefully.
  15. All these players have to improve regardless how impressive they look in junior/tournaments/pre-season. They have to continue to project upwards every year of their development until they reach their ultimate potential. Brisebois has a flaw, Stukel has a flaw, hell even a guy like Mitch Marner has a flaw. Marner has to get more speed in his skating and gain weight. Brisebois has to play quicker and with more purpose. Less time given to the opponents. Chychurn has a similar flaw IMO, they stand around too much and watch the play instead of looking around and taking action whether it is taking a check or moving to a better position defensively, or play more physical when the opponent has the puck. There were a few QMJHL defencmen around Brisebois' position, Carrier, Meloche, Lauzon, and Roy. Carrier has/had to improve his skating and strength, was too sluggish. Meloche had to improve his defensive awareness and consistency, Lauzon had to improve his decision-making and agility, J.Roy had to improve his speed and acceleration. Brisebois has to improve his flaw, he has time to improve it with 1 more junior season left and possibly an overage season if needed before he reaches pro.
  16. I really think Granlund is being utilized wrongly by Desjardins. I'm not saying Desjardins sucks, or doesn't know how to use his players. Maybe it was a communication problem from management to Desjardins about the type of player Granlund is. It could be management's fault, maybe they didn't scout him enough and aren't 100% sure of what Granlund's game is all about. I really don't know anything about this since I don't get information about the Canucks from the management/coaching staff. I do know that Granlund is a superbly smart playmaker that makes the right decisions with the puck and uses his hockey sense more than anything else to be an effective hockey player. He isn't primarily a checker or a shooter. He's not the playmaker to make a sweet saucer pass full speed to a streaking winger. Instead, he's a head-up, play reading passer that sees plays open up. Desjardins gave Henrik Sedin and then Sutter (when Sutter got hurt, McCann) the nice offensive zone starts, and then Granlund and Horvat the defensive zone starts. So top 2 Cs had offensive opportunities, bottom 2 Cs had defensive chores. I guess he had no other choice, either McCann or Granlund, or have Henrik Sedin take defensive zone starts with Horvat, but then we'd have no scoring. So yeah, I guess he had no choice. This year, I hope Desjardins relies on Horvat and Sutter to take defensive zone draws and lets Granlund and Henrik work offensively. Not only to win games, but what do we have in Granlund? His bread and butter is offence and playmaking, well let's see what he's to be a NHLer.
  17. Gaudette's skating needs to improve to be Kesler. He does have similarities, Gaudette has to add some weight too.
  18. Good first quarter from the Lions. The offence is really clicking and Lulay + Tedford are definitely changing this team's offensive look big time. The defence is strong too, a strong front 7 plus a quicker, more aggressive secondary. Everything looks really good right now.
  19. Weber and Josi will be all over the Toews, Hossa line. Rinne is a top-notch goalie, but the offence will have to come through in the playoffs for Nashville. Let's see if Forsberg can keep it up in the playoffs. I'm going with Chicago in 6 though.

    Ben Hutton | #27 | D

Hutton is going to be good. I wanted to see how he did in the pro game when I saw him in college because I wasn't sure how it would translate, but he was physical, skating great, making great decisions, shooting the puck well and playing well defensively. He had all the tools to become a NHL #1. I said earlier this year he reminds me of McDonagh, offensively he's clearly more talented than McDonagh at the same age (maybe even right now) but McDonagh is a pretty mean guy with aggressive, physical defence. I don't see the same snarl from Hutton but Hutton still plays with a good stick and his skating can shut players down. It'll be interesting to see how he does in more games in the AHL. I think Hutton can be a top-pairing defenceman or even a #1 in the NHL, the pace of the game might hold him back but I don't think it will be too much for him because of his skating ability.
  21. He's really good with the puck on his stick. He's an overager so he has an advantage on everyone else, makes it hard to evaluate how good he can become. Big, poise with the puck, and skates well. Benning really likes big players who skate well, Pedan, Sbisa, Virtanen. It seems to me he likes the fundamentals of the game.
  22. Jets are a great team to watch. Hard to not cheer for them.

    1. BanTSN

      BanTSN

As opposed to LA, i'd cheer any other team in the NHL, so yes, sure.

    2. Horvat

      Horvat

i think both cal and la are going to make the playoffs and win will be out

    3. Grape

      Grape

pretty easy to cheer for any team playing the hawks

  23. I basically praised Virtanen in my original post and the one thing he isn't great at is his hands (and probably his hockey IQ although I don't think it's poor either).
  24. Yeah, I think he'll be a top 6 player in the NHL. His hands just aren't good. He's physical, has speed, good shot, creates space and is intimidating.
