  1. It's really a big draft. From about 1-20 you'll likely going to get a top line player.
  2. Oh boy what a game from the Lions. Defence was killing the Argos, Yell-Parks-Williams-Phillips-Marsh is going to be dangerous against other teams along with 2 of the best LBs controlling the running game. Best defence in the CFL. Give some credit to Ray, he missed his targets big time.
  3. Good post, like the 2nd line. The McCann line sounds alot like the Bruins' line of Lucic-Krejci-Iginla. I could also see Gaunce playing well with Horvat and Shinkaruk instead of Jensen. Cassels could be a Dave Bolland type of player, another draft and we might have a really good future going.!
  4. That's the problem I see. Jensen could work but I don't think he would get the best out of Virtanen, draft one or possibly trading one is what I see.
  5. I can agree we should spread out the speed and size we have. Virtanen, Kassian are some big guys who should be on different lines, Shinkaruk and Jensen on different lines. I just think in particular that Horvat and Virtanen won't work that well together. I really like a Jensen-Horvat-Kassian line because each player have alot of different dimensions. I think Shinkaruk could work on that line, he's a legitimate sniper. Virtanen fits well with McCann IMO, both are fast paced players and I think if we could get a big LW that'd look good beside those two but I don't know how we land one because I think we should draft a defenceman in the 1st round of the 2015 draft.
  6. You have a PWF, two-way forward and a capable player who is big and can shoot in a Jensen-Horvat-Kassian line. Look at a top line who did well in the playoffs: Pearson-Carter-Toffoli. 2 big bodies in Pearson and Carter who can play a physical, power game and a sniper in Toffoli. On paper, you would think the same, you can imagine that line dominating their shifts because they're fast and big. You're also comparing 2 different eras, they game has changed who knows if a playmaker, sniper, PWF line would work. McCann, Shinkaruk, Virtanen have the potential to be a great line, these guys have top notch speed who can push the play every shift. A Jensen-Horvat-Kassian are great board players, I can already imagine a cycle game going on between the 3 and 3 big forwards who can take it to the net aswell. I think we need a Andrew Shaw type of player in the mix with these 6 players, maybe Cassels could be that guy who can jump into the top 6 if we need him. Gaunce would look good with Horvat and Kassian aswell. I just don't see it in a Virtanen-Horvat duo, 2 different players who play different styles. Virtanen doesn't have alot of things in common with Bert either and Horvat and Naslund aren't similar either. I don't see a comparison between these players, if you want to show me what you see that'd be interesting. This is in general but I hate the Bo (centre) covering for the 2 wingers defensively, it makes no sense at all. The other 2 guys can't slack off defensively, you're never going to win Cups if you let players slack off. Horvat should be engaged offensively just as much as the wingers other wise you got 2 guys playing offence and a forward thinking about defence. In another case you get have a 4 on 2 the other way if you let a winger slack off defensively and defenceman jumps into the rush. Everybody needs to play as a unit and the 5 guys need to support each other.
  7. Horvat as Naslund? They're no where near the same player.
  8. He is listed RW everywhere and played there last year in the WHL.
  9. That's true he also played RW with Henrik and Burrows. Could try it but then we'd have 3 good RWs (Jensen, Kassian, Virtanen).
  10. Horvat in between Jensen and Kassian could look decent IMO. They aren't speedsters but I feel like they'd be great on the boards, cycling and power to take to the net. Horvat and Virtanen just aren't similar and I don't see them complementing each other that well.
  11. I don't really see Horvat and Virtanen working as teammates now and maybe in their NHL careers. Virtanen is a different player than Horvat, he crashes and bangs and plays high-pace while Horvat is more of a puck possession player, who plays the game at a slower-pace.
  12. Show Fiala some love, he's top 5 in the 2015 NHL Draft if he played in NA and was 1 inch taller.
  13. I'm not saying he'd have to go the AHL after his NHL season but sending him to junior then AHL next season is a safer approach rather than playing him in the NHL. I think it's pretty clear that Horvat won't be forced into the NHL line-up. We have quite a bit of depth on our roster.
  14. I think we can agree that our 4th line will be better this year than last year. But Horvat won't be getting more than 11 minutes and that's where it becomes is it really worth giving him around 10 minutes a game or letting him play alot of minutes in junior. There's another benefit of playing in junior next season because he can play in the AHL next season which will be the right, easy path for his development. NHL to AHL next season doesn't make sense at all. Couturier got 14 minutes as a 19 year old.
  15. He won't slip further than #2. The hype factor and comparisons will make sure he's atleast #2. Unless he scores 0 points.
  16. The skill is real for McDavid. He isn't one dimensional offensively either. If you have elite vision, hockey IQ, skating, passing skills you will succeed in the NHL.
  17. Well my argument is that Horvat shouldn't play on the 4th line, I'm taking into consideration that he could possibly move up and he could play up to 10-12 minutes. Some posters have said he could play on the PK or PP which I think is ridiculous sure he's a skilled kid but I think you gotta be lying if Sedins, Burrows, Higgins, Bonino, Hansen, Kassian, Vey out of a PP spot or Burrows, Higgins, Vey, Richardson, Hansen out of a PK spot. I highly doubt we'll get more than 2-3 players out at a time due to injury. He's going to have a significant decrease in minutes from around 20 minutes to around 10 minutes. It's a hard transition and we have the AHL to help him along the way but, Horvat has to pick one or the other if he can't get the 3rd line. Another thing is, is it worth trying him at the NHL level on the 4th line? He'll match up against 4th line goons alot. Is there a risk putting him in Junior for another year? He'll have a good team with really good teammates and he'll be on the WJC team aswell. It'll come down to if he's ready or not but he's going to have to take Dorsett's spot for the 4th line, I think Dorsett is a better 4th liner than Horvat aswell. Maybe Horvat's a better hockey player but Dorsett is suited better for the 4th line.
  18. He said that before the 2nd half, Glenn was pretty bad in the first half with 2 INTs.
  19. Glenn had a good 2nd half, props to him. Gore and Arcenaeux had sick games, Arcenaeux is arguably the best WR in the CFL. He's big, fast and catches every ball. Harris fought through alot of injuries and still had a great game. Alex Bazzie is a beast, broke out as our best D-linemen this season, 2 sacks and the only sacks for us in the game. But really, Hamilton gave us the game with so many penalties.
  20. Just checked it, yeah it was Sestito. Even if he beats out Sestito, he wouldn't sit in the pressbox so it's Dorsett.. Unless we'd want to take out Matthias/Richardson which would be pretty stupid. Horvat has the skill of the Sedins? Nice one. He doesn't hit that much, I've seen him hit a few times a game. Bertuzzi hit alot, Horvat doesn't hit alot. He uses the power move like Nash and uses his size but that's about it. Bert had 72 hits in 59 games this season, in his prime he hit about 120-180 a season.
  21. I'm actually really curious to see some hit totals, I don't know if they cover them but when I watched him in both junior games, WJC and the summer camp I rarely see him hit. He'll use his body for taking pucks to the net but I don't see him hit much. He does fly bys, I rather he go after the puck. Sure I don't. I saw Horvat play many times in junior, WJCs, U18s and I don't see him hit much. He doesn't have to be a physical beast but hitting isn't a part of his game and I think he shys away from it.
  22. Because Horvat isn't good enough? Couturier had a better season than Horvat in their draft+1 year. For a few games. This all started from a poster saying "all he has to do is beat out Dorsett" then you and some other posters jumped in this aswell. Do you watch Horvat play? Do you see the physicality in his game? I rarely see him make contact in a game, like this kid isn't ready dude. Now you want to stick him in the NHL? Don't get me wrong he's big and all but he'll get hurt in the NHL. I want you to seriously answer this question, would you shelter Horvat and give him offensive zone starts or would you give him defensive zone starts?
  23. Then quit the Couturier comparisons because if he couldn't do that. He isn't on the level of Couturier and is an insult to Couturier. Yes I did say all that. That's what I think he'll become doesn't mean let's just try to develop him as a 3rd liner. Let's try to develop him as a 2nd liner or better. Like I said, Horvat and Couturier after their draft year in junior aren't comparable at all. Couturier was clearly alot better, he's better defensively aswell so really Horvat has less chance of making the 4th line like how Couturier did so on the Flyers. Different teams but it'll be extremely difficult to beat out Dorsett since Dorsett is a better hockey player than Zolnierczyk/Shelley/Sestito whoever Couturier beat out for a spot. Less chance for Horvat to make it and the less reason is because Couturier was alot better than Horvat at Horvat's age right now. He isn't losing anything from going back another year of junior, I've seen player busts playing too early in the NHL. Horvat isn't ready for the big, physical play he might get from playing against NHLers. He might get injured and then what? Do we really want to take a chance with this potential Horvat holds?
