  1. Did McKinnon win a cup making 12.6? How about McDavid or Matthews? No one on Tampa makes over 9.5 as does Ovechkin, arguably the best goal scorer in the league. I am too lazy to go through all of the leagues contracts but the bottom line is that the league runs by Cap rules and you either have to pay your stars top money and suffer in other areas, or you pay them fair contracts and build a solid team around them. At this point I would take a Marchessault/Karlsson over McDavid/Draisaitl anyway.
  2. Same path? Benning would have given Boeser the full 7.5 qualifying offer, Given Bo his 8.5 and we probably would have had a lot less draft picks by now. Boeser took less, Miller took less and Kuz took a reasonable offer. Bo was shown the door, rightfully so. Hronek was a much needed piece of the puzzle and he was acquired when the opportunity arose. Maybe not ideal timing but that type of player does not come up too often. What needs to happen now is players not wanted, need to go, and we need to fill the rest of the roster with support players for our core. Not an easy task(as there was very little cap space available) and not something this regime is responsible for. Patience,Patience, Patience needs to be had here as this is by no means a finished product. I think we see a difference in this team next year and a gradual improvement thereafter.
  3. Exactly, it's not like they turned down a 10 Million per year offer or traded Petey straight up for Mitch Marner or something ridiculous like that.
  4. I think you are scratching your head just like I am. Reasonable contracts, not backing down from stars demands, not going after older, over paid players I am not sure what the complaint is about really. I am sure the team is not how they would like it to look but some changes have to wait.(i.e. contracts run out or players get traded for reasonable offers etc.).
  5. Judging from their last signings(Miller,Kuzmenko) and how they dealt with Horvat, I am confident that Petterson will sign an appropriate contract. Boeser was an issue they inherited and I think they did the best they could from the short time they had to assess his situation. The biggest issue for them, I believe, is that Benning left them with little to work with and they won't be able to fully accomplish what they want to do until they start with a more clean slate. The last thing we need is a GM who will throw money out to its star players like its candy like what they did in Toronto. Its a pretty simple concept, you usually look to see if you can get the maximum amount of money out of your contract or you want to win at all costs. They typically don't usually go "hand in hand" its usually "one or the other".
  6. This guy is an asset, plain and simple. He is part of a TEAM and will only contribute a portion of winning us a championship. Don't care what he wants or what he thinks he is worth or what he thinks he might do in the future. If he is not going to take what he is worth according to what he has done so far, then bye, bye. He is an asset that we will be well compensated for. We don't need players like a Horvat on a team that wants to win a championship. This management knows what guys are worth and that is going to take us far when it comes to contract negotiations and team building. If he is serious about winning, he will stick around like Miller and Kuz did, if not, he will walk just like Bo did. makes no difference. We are going to win either way.
  7. Very well said, it doesn't matter where you acquire the players it is who you acquire and like you said "the quality of the rest of the team". Maybe that's Toronto's problem? or Edmonton's? I found that the middle of the pack skilled players tend to play harder, and pay attention to the small details of the game compared to the players making the big bucks. Hence why teams like Seattle and Vegas have success in the post season and the flashier players flounder in the playoffs. These teams made their teams first and then added their star players. Vegas now has both. It took them 6 years but Eichel seems to be the final piece to the puzzle. Vancouver went a little too far to the skilled side and neglected the other aspects. We are full of smaller skilled players and lack the defensive ,bigger ,harder checking complimentary players to our core group. We have an imbalance which I hope this new regime can fix in the next couple of seasons.
  8. Yes our chance to win the ultimate prize and we were shutout. Either you have the guys that can come up when needed? (Linden 2 goals in game 7) or you come up with nothing. These guys seem to thrive under pressure and others just do their thing during the regular season.
  9. I know many say it was because of injuries but I don't think we had any Marchessault's or Karlsson's on our team at the time. We didn't have anyone who thrived under pressure. I sure hope Petey and Hughes are those kind of players when the time comes.
  10. Is it me or did that last game remind me of Game 7 of the 2011 Finals? A very uninspiring game by the Stars to say the least.
  11. Thank you, not to mention that was 6 years ago and a lot has happened since then. They still bring the same type of player to the team and their not all overpaid whiney stick checkers either. They work hard and are not afraid to get their hands dirty. Petro, Stone and Eichel are the only big money guys but its the Marchessault's, Karlsson's, Stephenson's and Hill's who make this team what they are.
  12. I know everyone is praising Bob's play during these playoffs but comparing his numbers to Hill, Hill actually has BETTER numbers. 2.07 GAA .937.SV% against Bob's 2.21GAA and .935 SV%. It's going to be a great SCF.
  13. Yeah I am not buying that "gifted" in the draft excuse. If that was the case the Oilers should be here and not them. How many #1 draft picks were they gifted? Vegas is built on hard working, defense first players who actually play the right way, all the time. Marchessault and Karlsson come to mind and they don't have to be "Pests" to be effective. Eichel seemed that way to me at first, but he has shown a different side of himself in the playoffs. He doesn't allow the added pressure to get to him and Stone is the kind of Captain I wish we had here. Vegas in 6.
  14. Vegas in 6, Bob steals a game as does Tkachuk. Vegas's defense wins it as does their composure. All four lines can play defense and can score.
  15. Vancouver was up 2-0 in the Finals in 2011........................too soon? Dallas would need to keep the momentum going in the next game and then keep it going for 3 games. Not sure they have it in them but momentum can carry you pretty far. Vegas didn't play their "A" game last time so I expect them to come out strong in the next game, especially at home.
  16. I think you are correct ALF, I believe the teams lose out more then the players, but I am not 100% sure how it works.
  17. Do you have specific examples? You may not but I think many aren't totally driven by the almighty dollar.
  18. Newsflash! We don't make millions of dollars or are professional athletes either.
  19. Yeah you are going to have to be more specific because I am not seeing what you are seeing as being blatantly obvious. I am sure a few players see the opportunity to make a little more money and that fine. Whether they make 10 million or a 11 million? Not sure if they are concerned that much as they want to be on a winning team. Everyone has an opinion on it though and I am not seeing it. You have a good evening as well.
  20. So only the teams with lower tax brackets are attracting the best players in the NHL? If any player is looking for a big payday, I don't want him on the team anyway. Am I missing something to your point?
  21. Toronto's "Queens" didn't help them. Two of the greatest players(McDavid/Draisaitl) going today didn't do much either. Just sayin.
