  1. The biggest thing that I believe gets overlooked a lot of the time is how close most of the league is on any given day. We are usually in most games the majority of the time and the only time we get outclassed is when we are decimated with injuries or we are playing TB(for e.g.). I remember so many times some on CDC were saying we were going to get smoked on our California trips and a lot of times we came out on top. We have enough pieces in place to put us in competition to get into the playoffs but there are so many other variables its impossible to say for sure either way. Look at St. Louis and how they went from the bottom of the standings to winning to all or Vegas the year before. To say we are going to make the playoffs for sure or not is pure speculation and all we can do is put pieces of the puzzle in place and see what happens. Petey is going to do well next year but I think he will even do better the year after. The same with Hughes. Then we have other prospects who will eventually make there way on the team and older players will leave. In some instances we got better simply by subtraction. Getting rid of soft, middle of the road players such as Spooner,Pouliot and Hutton is automatically going to make us stronger. By our recent additions and subtractions we have upped our chances at the playoffs. Not a sure thing, just purely increased our chances, which is really all we could ask for IMO.
  2. Don't forget Diduck, Sandlak, Dirk, Brashear and Jovo Cop.
  3. Hope this is true. We have not had any D with any size and playability for a long time. Been a long time coming. Edler will benefit with the help coming.
  4. Hmmmm………….I thought the Putin/Trump narrowminded, "primitive thought process" thinking only happened in America? Hmmmmm, I guess not.

  6. There is so much parity in the league nowadays there is no way to predict one way or another. We will be better next year just by the sheer experience our young guys have gone through so far. Maybe we add D depth which may help keep Edler/Tanev in the line up longer. Maybe we weed out excess baggage we have been carrying. Can you say Pouliot? Hughes will help. A healthy Roussel will help. Miller will help. I love seeing these guys who say we need this or we need that to be contenders. It was the same in the prediction thread. Tons of predictions and then nothing but crickets when the season is over and done. We should improve next year but there are far too many factors to seriously predict one way or another what will happen.
  7. Winning = the sum of ALL OF ITS PARTS! Not 1 goalie, not 3 top forwards, not just a top PMD, not a just a sniper etc. etc. etc. 23 guys must come together for 1 goal in mind and pretty much do everything in their power to get there. A few guys not on the same page and that could be it for your chances. That's why character guys are so essential for success. They'll pretty much do anything to get to the final goal.
  8. Now on those 2 statements you are probably correct. He had a bad game in the finals but for the rest of it he was pretty good. Scoring was our main problem.
  9. Hey all the best to Luongo I just commented on the thoughts he was this god, this savior for this team and I don't see it that way. Great player, no doubt, but we needed him and a few other key players in 2011 and they could not pull it off. Some are OK with that, some have excuses for it, but he is just another hockey player who played for the Canucks. If we won a cup? I would be talking like he walked on water too. I see the team first and the player second and I know others have a different opinion and that's fine. Like I said, to each their own. Cheers.
  10. HAHA to each their own. Like I said we each have our favorites and I have seen a lot of players wear the Canuck jersey, some good, some not so good. I tend to like the ones with a lot of character and fight in them over the "popular" ones.
  11. Nah, Burrows and Hansen will always be my favorites from that era as they gave their all right to the very end. That's the epitamy of a "TEAM PLAYER" in my books. You have your opinion I have mine.
  12. The "Best we ever had" were Burrows and Hansen who were the true "Character" players of that regime who tried to help THIS TEAM going out. Not the Sedins, Not Kesler,Not Luongo and sadly, neither will Edler. Only Tanev remains to be seen. I am so glad that era is over and a new one has begun.
  13. Oh I guess I worded it wrong Mr. Mexico my apologies. My thought was he does not do well with trades and acquisitions. Most will say, a lot of deals he did, he did not have the upper hand on and the Edler deal seems like the only one where he stood his ground and got a good deal done. Regardless of his tenure as GM, I think he has less experience then other GM's in the league. Again, I do not profess to be a better GM then he is I simply am, EXPRESSING MY OPINION.
  14. Oh I'm sorry Ron did I make a mistake and profess my "opinion" on a Canuck chat forum? This appears to be a sore spot for you. Things not so rosy in Alberta?
  15. I don't think JB is a great GM nor do I think he is bad one. He is in the business of predicting and foreseeing players at multi-levels of their careers. This, I think. he does a great job at. I think he lacks experience in the business side of things and this is where he gets into trouble. I believe he is learning but he still needs work. I think he got the right player in Miller but I think he underestimated the power of having Cap Space. He needs to be little more patient and pounce on those "can't miss" deals. He holds a lot of power right now and he should remember this going into FA as well. He also needs to realize there is no pressure for us to win right now as our young guys still need to develop. Wait,Wait,Wait those Cap strapped teams out JB and reap the rewards once they break.
  16. I believe it was mentioned on these boards before that Hutton was being shopped around by the Canucks but............................Nobody wanted him.
  17. So I am curious as to this "upside" you speak of. So is he going to learn how to skate faster or pass out of his zone better? Is he going to work on getting a killer slap shot to help on the PP? or how about a devotion to make less mistakes and to work on that -75? Maybe he is going to develop a mean streak and all of sudden going to start fighting and hitting anything that moves? Is his vision of the ice not fully developed yet? Fill us in on this "upside" that you foresee coming would you?
  18. Pretty much any of our youth(Brisebois,Sautner) plus Hughes and even Schenn are better then Hutton. This is before we even have thoughts about FA's. He is at the bottom of the pecking order and he is on the verge of getting pecked out.
  19. Don't know why so many are complaining about our bottom feeders on this team. We have many of players who have basically had try outs and failed. Goldobin showed promise and definitely has skill but has failed to put it all together or show continued improvement since coming here. Work ethic and commitment to defense has not been his forte and, to me, this is a character flaw in which I am not sure can be taught. Virt, on the other hand, has continued to learn the defensive side of his game and has showed continued improvement. He has a flaw, and that's consistency, which may or may not improve over time. Virt has attributes that we need on this team, speed and aggressive play. I think Virt still has the potential to be more offensive but that will depend on how the coach deploys him from here on out. Goldy is like a lot of players on this team right now in that he does some things good but does not do a lot of things great. Now is the time to start weeding out these guys and bring the guys in who can play a multitude of different games and have the ability to adapt. No need for one dimensionals on the roster IMO.
  20. The guy is 6'2" but doesn't play like it, he scored 19 points last year and 6 points the year before that. He is a career MINUS 75!!!!!!! Our defense is atrocious and even worse when Tanev/Edler are out, so how is this guy an asset worth anything? The kids played fine last year and at least could defend without making so many mistakes. Just watching Hughes for a few games showed exactly how a young up and coming defenseman should look like. Stecher and Hutton are fill ins until our young D are ready. They are currently our Weber/Vey type plugs that occupy ice time until we rebuild, plain and simple.
  21. People seem to forget how bad our D has been. He is not a solution to the problem. We have guys in the system that could do just as well as he did and they have much more upside. He tried to make it and was given a good chance to succeed. Things just didn't work out. Time to move on let some of the kids play.
  22. You are right , he does things OK just could never get to doing things great. A nice guy just too bad nice guys can't win you championships. I wish him all the best.
  23. I think you are underestimating Hughes and since when does the success or failure of a team fall completely on 1 defenseman? So when a team makes it to the final and they lose their top dman to injury they should just forfeit the rest of the games? The 2011 Canucks and teams like TB does not guarantee you anything and teams like St. Louis and Vegas in their first year prove anything is possible depending on the 23 players on your roster. I think the "Tank" philosophy has been proven ridiculous and the teams "Character" composition has a far more impact on a teams success in the playoffs then just pure talent alone.
  24. Offense makes up for size as far as defensemen goes. We really need to aim higher for our expectations of our team. Without Tanev/Edler, our D do not do well, just sayin.
