  1. I do not understand why this is so hard to comprehend. Its like our D where some are OK with Hutton and Stecher, yet ,our D is god awful when Edler and Tanev go down with injury. We need to start looking at adding to our core and stop GUESSING at what MIGHT work at this point. Time is ticking and the time frame for their window of opportunity has already started.
  2. I guess about a third of us knew what he was really worth considering his age and injury problems. I think if Edler was true to his word he would have resigned a long time ago and not wait until a week or so before FA. Nice try though OP. Glad that he is here for now though because he is our best defenseman at this point.
  3. WE have Petey,Brock,Bo,Hughes and Demko...…….Just sayin.
  4. I am saying we have a lot of left over pieces where we tried to add to our top 6, including Goldobin. With the sheer number of bottom 6 players I am saying we don't need another to add to the pile. Lets go out and get a legit top 6 guy and stop messing around with experiments. Burakowsky's numbers do not scream top 6 and I would rather we aim a little higher then him. Maybe not a Pananrin but definitely something in between is all I am saying.
  5. As rumored that the Cap is going to Drop this year, there are many other teams that are going to have to get "creative" such as TB. Going to be fun to watch for sure. Love it.
  6. We have 10 non-top 6 forwards and 4 unsigned FA's including Goldobin. Do we really need another guy who may or may not fit into the top 6? I think we can do better considering there are many teams with cap trouble and many FA available.
  7. The one thing I like about a lot of these "speculation" deals is that there are numerous teams needing to make deals to stay under the cap while we are one of the few teams that can oblige them. We actually have the ability to be picky in our decisions and have the time to wait them out and wait for the best deal possible. It sure is good to be a Canuck fan these days...………...FINALLY!!!!!
  8. I think we are past the "experiments" faze of the rebuild and we still have a few of these players on the current roster, most who have not solved our problem of being a legit top 6 player. I think we all know who they are. As "Cap space" is a growing concern, we must put the big money to keep our core players and be creative with the bottom 6 guys. Sadly that is the direction the NHL is going as Chicago can attest to. We need to rid ourselves of some of these players and not add to it. Pass.
  9. Zero chance? There is some teams that have "Zero Chance" that they can keep the players they currently have on their roster given salary cap restraints. I think you should rethink your "zero chance" theory.
  10. Right now "Cap Space" is the advantage and disadvantage. It is to our advantage right now and it opens up a lot of opportunities that would usually not be available. I like our chances of getting what we need without giving up too much of anything, especially with the possibility that the Cap is going DOWN this year. YESSSS!!!!!!!
  11. Agreed, we should be addressing "Needs" and not "nice to haves". We are in the drivers seat. RIght now our "Needs" are top 6 forward, top 4 man and team toughness
  12. I am looking for a dman that can do more then "hold his own".
  13. Agreed and this has been a concern for awhile. Dorsett tried his darndest too there was just not enough support for him. Definitely a "NEED" on our team, especially with our smaller, younger players coming up. These type of players are crucial in the playoffs as well.
  14. As they should have. Hutton wasn't much better and will get bumped out as we improve our D.
  15. Finally! We are in a position of power in that we have the upper hand on teams with a gluttony of good players and not enough Cap Space. I hope JB waits them out and pounces on the great deals to be had.
  16. Pouliot for sure and probably Hutton. Sautner and Brisebois showed promise so they can easily replace the other 2. Rounding out our top 4 should be the priority for improvement. Either help for the PP or help clearing the crease is my guess.
  17. The problem is that players who are probably going to decline in production during the contract being discussed , puts a false value on their true worth. Hence why players get bought out such as Perry. Although Edler is probably worth the money now, if he signed a longer contract, we may have got stuck with an improperly assessed contract and we would have the problem of trying to get rid of him in 3,4 years. Teams fall in the trap of paying too much for a player and hence messing it up for everyone else. Who knows how a player is going to perform in 7-8 years(See Chicago). I think Edler 's contract is great as it allows to the team to continually pay him what he is worth no matter how long his career is.
  18. SPECULATION on your part on a guy who is injury prone and not getting any younger. He will continue to get paid what he is worth AFTER this contract. Your thought process is why salaries are getting out of hand again and will eventually lead to another lock out.
  19. Great job by JB! Didn't over pay and did not give him the term. This is great considering Edler's non-contract year play, his decline in foot speed and his injury problems. Edler probably realized he wasn't going to get much more anywhere else considering how long it took him to resign. Edler will definitely be effective for the next 2 years as he is our best all round dman currently on the roster. In 2 years time? Maybe not so much and the team can adjust accordingly and they are not tied to any contract problems. If Edler can remain competitive, the team will continue to resign him similar to Chara. As it should be. For those that said he took a discount, he is being paid as one of the top 30 dmen in the league so is that not being paid accordingly?
  20. I suggest, if you get a chance, to go back and watch it as they went through adversity throughout the playoffs and were one "crossbar" away from winning it. I felt the team put their foot on the gas in the first round and never let up until the end of game 7 where you see the picture of Linden in total exhaustion. There were no lulls in a game here or a game there and players did not slow down or play worse because they were injured. I watched every game and I sincerely felt like they did everything in their power to win that Cup. There was nothing left they could have done. The star players produced, the leaders lead, the bangers banged and the goalie made saves when he needed to. This, I believe, was because this team had so much "character" and refused to let adversity stand in their way. These are the reasons I believe why the new core will do better then the last did and, just maybe, we will finally have a Cup to brag about.
  21. I thought about this Alf and the first thought I had was "because we cannot have him and Edler come in and be our top defenseman and then both go down sometime in the season with injuries". Then I thought more optimistically and thought, if JB can acquire another top 4 dman through FA, then we could take pressure off of Tanev and Edler by adding Hughes and the FA. Ideally this would be the best scenario and we would definitely have to cross our fingers that the less ice time the better chance we have of keeping these two healthy. Then we could keep Stecher on the 3rd pairing with Schenn and we would have a better balanced dcore. IMO of course.
  22. I seen the same officiating and injury concerns in 94' and I was on the edge of my seat for 2 months in 94'. I didn't even watch the end of game 7 in 2011. It sounds like you didn't even watch the 94' series and I think you would think differently if you did.
  23. Again its our opinion and you are welcome to yours. Obviously you seen a different game then we did.
  24. So you wanted one of your leaders to get embarrassed and no one do nothing about it? Isn't this the game of hockey? I am embarrassed because the entire team did nothing. This was the Stanley Cup Finals, the Holy Grail of Hockey and the time for a hockey player or a Hockey team to go to war. I really thought I was watching just another regular season game to be honest.
  25. Its simply mine and Chris's opinions after watching both series. We have ours, you have yours. Watching Bure retaliate after being repeatedly roughed up by the opposing "Goon" and then watching Sedin just stand there as Marchand was punching him, leave deep impressions in my mind that I will never forget. I can't imagine what it did for his teammates to watch that either. Had to be deflating seeing one of your "leaders" do nothing. I felt deflated just watching it. Linden was definitely a "Leader" on a whole different level. Burrows biting Bergeron? Embarrassing? Like I said, we all have our opinions of what we saw.
