  1. Its all about "Gamers". Pressure does a lot to people and everyone handles it in different ways.
  2. I don't think the Canes have the offense. I mean Vegas shut down McDavid and Draisaitl so..............
  3. Panthers are going to need a lot more then a hot goalie. Vegas comes at you with every line, all the time. They don't let up. Hill has been outstanding since coming in too.
  4. I am with you totally 100%. You see teams wheeling and dealing on the draft floor like they know exactly who they want. They trade up or down to get who they want. Do we really need another smallish winger? Really? We have the tough positions covered and now we need big "Tuch" type players to COMPLIMENT our smaller less physical players, how hard is that to figure out. We probably don't need an offensive center for a few years or a PMD. If we are in line for a guy like this, then lets trade down. Call me crazy but I think we should be gearing towards building a "Team" and not just look for the next shiny new toy IMHO.
  5. This is it right here Alf. Miller at the right price? We sign him. Bo? No? then he must go. Kuz? Right price? He stays. There was no quality, fair offers for players such as Boeser, Garland or Meyers, so they stayed, for now. We will not be successful if we do not pay our players correctly. We must be prepared to let anyone go, if they are not willing to stay at a fair price. That even goes for our untouchables, otherwise we will be just like Toronto, ewww!
  6. I don't think we are, but even if we were, we have time on our side and there is no big hurry to dump our excess players. Others teams will get more desperate as the season progresses and injuries accumulate. This Management group has shown they are not making any panic type moves and will be patient as they progress. Teams that are tight against the cap ALWAYS find a way to be cap compliant I am not worried about it in the least.
  7. I said it before, Vegas has Gamers , tough to beat a team with players like that. They just find ways to win. They shouldn't have won that one. I sure hope our smaller players can handle the increased physicality when it counts.
  8. Vegas has so many Gamers, Dallas is going to need to step up big time if they want to beat these guys. Vegas has so many players who step up come play off time.
  9. ....And there it is! This is why guys shouldn't be paid an exhorbent amount of money when you have no idea if he can translate his great game into the post season. We have made that mistake and we have seen other teams do the same thing recently. We know that the playoffs involve tighter checking and more physicality. If your top 6 guys do not possess that type of game in the regular season, what makes you think they are going to improve their game in the playoffs? If anything, they are going to have more trouble playing their game. Miller will do fine, Garland or Boeser? They may have a more difficult time with the tighter checking and added physicality.
  10. I think the smartest thing to do is take advantage of an opportunity when it arises. Why wait? Management isn't going to foolishly over pay and so far they have proven that. I think you are thinking "in a perfect world" scenario which is a bit unrealistic.
  11. How are we catering to those two? We have a Core(1C,1D,1G) and are in the midst of building a supporting cast for said Core. The clock is already ticking on building around these guys. The only reason for a rebuild is if you do not believe these guys can do the job. I think in the past, this is the part of the rebuild we have failed in the past. Did we build an adequate supporting cast for Nazzy and Bert? or The Sedins? We are actually in the midst of a transition from JB to JR's idea of a winning team. WE ARE IN TRANSITION! Meaning there is no finished product and plenty of work to do. I am just glad that they are seeking out similar aged players to surround this group so that they can keep most of them together longer. Not sure why you can't see that this team is being constructed different then the past. I think if you were a little more patient, you will see what this new regime is trying to accomplish.
  12. Boeser comes from the old thought process when Bo was here. You don't need to skate hard, hit or back check. I see a different Boeser under Tocchet. Boeser is finally learning how to be an NHLer. Its good to see and I foresee him having a great season next year barring any more injuries. Miller was in that mindset too, but I have seen improvements in his game as well. Tocchet is turning a lot of these guys into legitimate NHLers. Next season should be interesting.
  13. I think what you see in Linden and maybe not in the others is that he was a "Gamer" and he shined in the playoffs. We have not had many players on the Canucks who played like that. Kessler going "Beast Mode" for a series? Maybe? I mean, Linden scoring 2 goals in the final with broken ribs, I don't think you get much more "Gamer" then that. Vegas has similar players that are playing above their weight class in the playoffs. Players such as : Stephenson and Marchessault come to mind or Karlsson or Smith. Even Eichel is doing better then I expected him to. Yes I would like to see us get into the playoffs, if not for anything more then to see what our young guys can do under that kind of pressure. Is Petey going to be worth the money he is going to command? It would be nice to know before hand, in whether he is going to shine or not in the post season.
  14. This is what it boils down to, you picked them now you need to live or die on that hill. Oilers will do the same with McDavid/Draisaitl/Nurse and Toronto with Matthews/Marner/Reilly. After you pick them , then you assemble the best team behind them to give them the best chance to win. I think we have the advantage of having a goalie like Demko at a reasonable cap hit. The rest of the roster should be easier to assemble and a lot cheaper. Chicago did this in their hay day and they easily replaced the support players as some of them moved on. I like how this new management realize you can't pay players because they are popular. The team comes first. If the cost is too high, then you move them. The players no longer run this team! Finally! Either players follow the game plan or they go, this has been needed for so long. I also like how they are following a game plan regarding a players age in order to give the core the longest possible window of opportunity to succeed.
  15. I look at the Canucks and their one and done post seasons and think, all of the time they had to build a team and they bow out in the first round? That happened year after year after year, especially in the Nazzy years. The expansion teams weren't getting the cream of the crop, they were getting what every team thought of as "expendables". Yes there were some good players in there but like you said, the Canucks gave up nothing from their roster. These "plumber" type players become more important in the playoffs and we see that with the teams having success in the post season, including the expansion teams. We are too busy trying to get the fancy , flashy players and forget about the rest of the roster. Fancy, flashy players do well in the regular season and typically are not as effective in the post season(i.e. Marner, Matthews, McDavid etc.) I am very thankful we have a Coach like Tocchet as he knows that the flash and dash do nothing to win you games and hard work and dedication bring you a lot farther. If our team becomes anywhere like Vegas, I will be a very happy camper.
  16. ANYONE, who has size, sandpaper, speed and can play defense.
  17. Meh, I don't buy that "expansion team" complaint. Before the Cap, we had big market teams that had an advantage as well, but at the end of the day, that entire team is "hand picked" and it doesn't matter how many years you get, if you can't pick the right ones, that is on you. It all boils down to the President and GM making decisions from the right Coaches to draft picks to signing reasonable contracts etc. in making a successful team.
  18. Very well said and I like how you bring up the aspect that players have a multitude of skills, or lack there of, and analytics don't always tell the whole story. I am actually growing less and less interested in regular season hockey as it does not show the true test of the skills of NHL players. Its like preseason or all-star weekend hockey. Some call it "pond hockey"? Some players have great success in regular season hockey and then flounder in the playoffs. We have some how concentrated on players like this and hence why I think we have not had much past post season success. For some reason though, I believe what is now being built has a more chance of success then in the past. Players are being pushed into being complete players and should have a better chance at adapting to what ever style of play gets thrown at them. Miller is going to come in handy when the opposition tries to throw physicality in the picture and he will give us a chance to respond and give it right back. We need more players like him though and I hoping we trade some of our smaller skilled players for some big, fast checkers who play with more physicality.
