  1. Very true and spot on. I could not believe that it was game 7 in 2011 as the players didn't seem to realize where they were and what they were playing for. In 94' they sure did and they definitely played like it was. I didn't even finish watching the end of game 7 in 2011 as I had given up just like the team seemed to have done. I was hoping that if they were going to go down that they would at least go down fighting. Sure glad we have a new core, FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Could it be the ……...I'm an Oiler effect, which has afflicted many?
  3. I am wondering...…..For a guy who says he wants to stay here why has he taken so long to sign? I am inclined to call BS on this if it goes much longer. The team was obliging him last year by obeying his wishes to not go to a contender and play for the Cup. If he is being honest would he have not signed a deal by now instead of playing hardball with the team?
  4. I am not leaning too far in either direction on this but I do question Lucic's decline since going to Edmonton. They don't have a good track record for allowing players to flourish on their club and there are plenty of examples to back that up. His numbers seem fine until he went to the Oilers. The other concerns I have with this subject is 1) I am really tired of watching LE's underperformances on this team and 2) I am really tired of watching our young guys getting roughed up without any repercussions. We have had the odd "tough guy" on our team but it really needs to be a team effort and I see this happening when we have more then 1 or 2 tough guys in the line-up. It might not be the most ideal situation but if its only JB's best option, then, we must at least consider it for the betterment of the team.
  5. Your right Hughes is a perfect example of how a smaller offensive minded player should play the game and he hasn't even had any seasoning yet and will be way better as time passes. We have been missing this type of player as well as a Pronger/Chara/Byfuglian type banger for the playoffs. None of our guys right now can do that and I am hoping JB can rectify this through FA , trade or draft.
  6. Haha yeah I know. I thought he had a little more give then that.
  7. It appears it doesn't take much to take out Matthews. What a wimp!
  8. I like Stecher but for his size he should have more offensive output and I am not seeing that. He is too small to clear the front of the net or hit effectively, especially in the playoffs. He is feisty but so is Biega and he is classified as a fringe NHLer. I am afraid he is a filler until someone better comes along or he all of a sudden becomes an offensive dynamo(plays on the #1 PP). I highly doubt it though at this stage of the game.
  9. We need D who can either help out defensively(hit, clear the front of the net) or help out offensively(PP, first pass out of the zone) NOT somewhere in the middle like what we have now: Stecher,Hutton,Tanev and Biega. I like Edlers game but he is getting older, is often injured and is sometimes inconsistent. We can only go up from this point.
  10. I agree. He has all the attributes needed to be a Pro. He has exceptional talent, a strong desire to win and a high compete level. This along with the desire to always try to get better is why he will be a superstar in the NHL and I foresee him being BETTER then the Sedins as he will be a better all round player. The best is truly yet to come!
  11. After watching this defensive core the last couple of years, I am ready for an overhaul. With Edler and Tanev taking turns getting injured and Hutton and Stecher making valiant attempts at filling in, I am ready for change. I seen Edler start his decline last year and for the first time I seen him have a hard time keeping up to the speed. Similar to what happened to the Sedins. He will become less and less effective in the coming years and he needs to be replaced. Would love to have him still on the team at a reduced role but there are better options out there and JB just has to seek them out. The Cap space is there and the FA options are out there I am optimistic we will improve the D this year and we will not have to cross our fingers anymore and wonder when our 2 top D men will go down with injuries.
  12. I think you are correct Eddy had a chance to help the team out last year and simply declined. I guess winning a cup is not high on his priority list. He has a chance to help the team out again this year will he do it? If he does fine, but if not, then he was not the right kind of player we need moving forward anyway and we will be much better off without him.
  13. I am a huge Edler fan, BUT, there are a few concerns I have with him. - He is inconsistent and tends to be better during contract years. - injury prone which will get worse as he gets older - he is getting slower and last year he showed it is getting worse. Similar to what the Sedins went through - he had a chance to "take one for the team" last year which he declined. A character flaw? He was our best dman last year but we were weak at that position for sure. JB seems to want to take care of this through FA plus we will have Hughes and possibly OJ this year. I would like to see a better version of Edler, preferably one that can hit and one with a bit more foot speed. The money is there to acquire a replacement so either he takes a 2 year deal or he can try his luck somewhere else. Sorry Eddy.
  14. In "plugs" I mean players who were either "experiments" or came "cheap". Ericksson was an exception as I believe he came in to appease the Sedins. He needed players to "fill in" while he drafted and developed core players. Considering how many players he had with NTC's and as the team was tight to the cap at that time, I think he did pretty well. With a basic core in place and Cap space available, I see his priorities much different this time around.
  15. I see making the playoffs next year as a natural progression to the development of our young guys. With teams like Vegas and St. Louis making it to the finals, I am not convinced we need to sit and develop the "perfect" team ,such as TB, before we start thinking playoffs. I see waiting for this "perfect" time just as silly as the "tanking" philosophy. If you have the right kind of "character" players on your team, anything can happen.
  16. I am warming up to it as well. We have had the team toughness problem for years and it definitely needs to change with Hughes coming in. I don't want to see what happened to Petey last year happen to him as well. It does take more then 1 player and I am hoping he can help out Jake and Roussel make us tougher to play against. Ericksson is basically useless to us as we have many players who can do what he does. Maybe he does just need new scenery and a fresh start as does Lucic. The sweetener will be needed though to cover the extra year on Lucic's contract.
  17. The world is made up of different people Deb. Some will help out a stranger getting assaulted while others will just walk on by and just stare at the incident thinking its not THEIR problem. Sad but true.
  18. I like the sounds of JB's thinking. We have spent a few years building the foundation for this team and now its time to do some fine tuning. He has inserted "Plugs" in the past to fill the roster and now its time to fill these spots with legit NHLers. The time clock is now ticking for our young guys and we do not need to waste it thinking we need to spend a few more years rebuilding. We have a good foundation of goalies and have some good young core players with a couple of good veterans who can play. I see the process of filling in certain positions now while the new guys learn how to play in the NHL and playoffs. With a good core and some Cap space, I see this team finally adding key pieces to the puzzle and giving our young guys some quality time in the playoffs. Good times are ahead.
  19. I remember seeing a program where poor kids from a third world country digging through a garbage dump to look for recyclables they can sell for food. Why is he not in a field somewhere growing his own food? Why? because their is a commodity that is dictated by the rest of the world, INCLUDING US! Western civilization influences much of the world and we have to be partly responsible for its problems and therefore we should also be part of the solution.
  20. No but a ban on single use plastic will definitely put a damper on their exports to Canada. Maybe it becomes a fad and others follow suit. Pretty soon they see profits drop significantly and they look for alternatives. Not an overnight answer to the problem but it maybe a start.
  21. The only way to beat a problem such as this is to talk the language that they know and love...…...Money. Take away the demand and then maybe places like China look for other non-plastic products to sell. Options? It is much too late for the luxury of options for this earth. If you want to give options then it will be a paper straw or nothing. People have to stop looking at things as "black and white" and see what can be done when we think outside the box.
  22. I agree but the other thing we can do is reduce the demand for the product. No one to sell to, no reason to produce it. It has to start somewhere, for all of our kids sake and the sake of all we cherish on this earth.
  23. Some people think money is everything and others think that there is more to life then that. That is the main reason for most of the worlds problems today. The problems are almost always linked to someone's GREED for money. Me? I prefer things like clean, breathable air, clean drinkable water, family, health, you know, stuff like that.
  24. This is the true attribute which is much needed on this team and the biggest difference between the 2 players. The other thing I noticed is that Lucic's numbers made an obvious drop after going to Edmonton. I have seen other players have the same occurrence after being exposed to that atmosphere. They have a very bad track record. Both of these players are over paid and I think if they are making less they both still have some use in the NHL. The biggest difference is the extra year which Edmonton will have to anti up for.
  25. The main thing here is that he left. Some kids have a dream to play in the NHL and win a Stanley Cup. Others? Not so much.
