VGK has "gamers" including the goalie. They also have the depth and every line can play. Defense wins championships and they know how to shut down team offense, shutting down McDavid/Draisaitl was a sight to see. Another plus is they don't take a lot of penalties. Their team game is all there and they don't just rely on one or two players. Vegas in 6.

I think what you are trying to say is that ONE DIMENSIONAL players don't do well at times. My question then becomes, Why do we pay them so much then? This is one of the main reasons for my argument in not paying Horvat so much money. If they are not going to help you win a cup, what good are they? My other big argument was "Softies". When the going gets tough, who is going to step up? You are right, the Oilers have 2 One Dimensional players and not much success is going to be had until they play a more complete game, or one of them gets traded. Teams that play a "Team" game are in the finals now and thats the way it should be. The pretenders are now booking their Tee Times for the summer.

I actually don't mind. Teams like Vegas and the Kraken play the right way, the way hockey is supposed to be played. I am so tired of whimpy whiners like Marner and Matthews wanting more and more money. I say the more 'PLUMBER' type players the better on a team. Its funny these newer teams know what it takes to build a winning team while other teams spend decades going round and round and go no where.

I am just gonna leave this here........................No further explanation needed. Blunt metioned it afew times already. -
I agree, I am just glad we never dropped like we usually do, Progress. ..................and yes , we definitely need to get tougher, a big priority IMHO.

I like how some people just think in absolutes that because of "this" then that must mean" that". Its all about balance and I am saying for the Canucks we are too much on the smaller side. Hughes and Hronek are not that big so we should be trying to acquire bigger players around them. Not Big Slow Useless guys obviously, they need to know how to skate and defend, that's a given. Another given is your entire roster has to play as a Unit and with the same goal, hence why high character players are a must. But that's an entire different subject matter altogether.

I actually believe we have too many top 6 players, namely wingers. Petey and Miller are #1C and #2C with Kuz most likely Petey's partner. Miller's partner is still to be determined between Boeser, AB and Garland. Tocchet likes pairs and then someone to play the hard areas such as a Joshua, Mik or PDG. I think Hogs and Podz will be fine on the third line. We need to be bigger and have a little more sandpaper. We need some good PKers and a #3C. I don't think Bear will cut it in the top 4, great player, but a bit on the smaller side and we have enough smaller dmen., especially once Meyers is gone. In theory , we should have an easier time acquiring the players we need now as opposed to finding a Petey, Hughes, Demko, Miller or a Hronek.

Rick Tocchet : Canucks, Playoffs, and Gretzky - Missin Curfew Interview.

That's what I am seeing too, we finally have personnel who know what they are doing. Its like we have been stuck in cruise control for the last decade or so doing the same things over and over. Imagine hockey players playing real hockey, NHL Coaches Coaching and management making decisions that actually improve the team. -
Your exactly right! The ability to adapt to what ever you encounter is key and one of those is being able to contain your opponent who is bigger and stronger then you. Puck battles becomes even more important in the playoffs and being a smaller guy is going to limit your effectiveness, and yes I said team play and systems was just as important.

Whoah! Whoah! Whoah! settle down! Take a chill pill there hombre. I was talking about what we currently have on on the team that may need to go(i.e. OEL, Garland, Meyers, Boeser etc.) Most of the discussion was about our rookie coaches we had to endure with Willy D and Green. We have a lot of cap tied up in an over abundance of Offensive Wingers and Offensive minded Defenseman. Maybe not all of our woes are because of Benning but he was the guy in charge for many years here. If you are asking me what could have been done differently back then, we should have moved on from the Sedins and not think we owed them anything. They were paid a significant amount of money for their services.

Like I said, we are going in circles here. It got out that BB was getting replaced, hence the reason he was let go mid season. There was no intention to make the playoffs last year, it was strictly to assess what we had moving forward. I know you mentioned the PP and the other players struggling. Bo has always been on the PP but he seemed to be on a mission this year for some reason. You have your theory on his increased point production and so do I.
-
1. BB was always going to go it was just a matter of when. Yes he was going to be paid regardless, but did ownership want to pay for 3 coaches for the same season? 2. Bo played for us for 8 seasons prior to last, do you not think that his increase in point production in the last season for his contract was a fluke? Come on man! We have seen other players in the NHL do the exact same thing, this is nothing new. I didn't care too much before and I care even less now that they are no longer on the team. Its a business and personnel come and go. Now if we were talking about Linden, then it would be an entirely different story.
-
No its not whether I like the player or not its that I care far more for the team then any one player. I actually liked Bo very much when he first came to us. I like to be entertained by watching a hard fought hockey game where players play as a team to win. We have not been like that for a very long time. Its frustrating to say the least. This team is lining up to be the exact type of team I wished we had decades ago ,and in that , I am excited to see the next couple of years of Canuck hockey. I hope Bo enjoys his time in New York.

Weren't they still paying TG too? At that point, Demko was out and the team wasn't doing well anyway. They were looking at next year and assessing what they had. They probably would have kept BB on if the word didn't get out about Tocchet being his replacement. I don't know, in 8 seasons before last , Bo did not play like that . I don't know if I would call it "magic" as opposed to a guy playing for his next contract, plain and simple.
