  1. Irrelevant? Torts had a plan, the team had their own thoughts. How did that work out for them? My apologies, I meant the two who spent more then a year here. Green and good ol' Willy D. Mr. Horvat was the leader of the Country Club so that may explain things. Thats why I said patience, these guys are starting to transform this team, and the minor league team as well. Since when did we here that before? and a practice rink? Like I said, these guys know whats needed to bring us a championship.
  2. I remember that year clearly, he wanted the players to block shots and the players looked at him like he was an Alien. He wanted them to all be defensibly responsible but they thought that was someone elses job. The second half of that season you could see they all gave up and just coasted through the end of the season. It was bad and was one of the first signs of the Country Club atmosphere attitude.
  3. Do players and coaches who won cups grow on trees?
  4. No he's right, especially when you talk about Miller you go all out.
  5. I can agree he was just "Adequate" but I think the system, or the lack there of, had a lot to do with it. Next year we will get an accurate assessment of where he stands.
  6. Ok going to get back to you next year on your expertise assessment. I looked and he hasn't changed much other then a small decline in points when he first got here. He was god awful this year, no doubt, but what player doesn't go through that, especially when they had a major injury like a broken foot. If you show a little patience you might see that the situation is not so dire. Myers is gone regardless next year so I foresee an improved group in the D core next year.
  7. You can nitpick all you like they have rings so they have been involved in a team that know how to win, our last two coaches didn't even have NHL experience. Torts tried to coach the "Country Club" and they quit playing for him. Thats not on him thats a team not willing to put in the work to win. This management team and coaching staff know how to win and thats all that matters, my concern is do we have the players. That remains to be seen.
  8. Don't forget Tocchet, Gonchar and Foote all earned their own Cup rings. We need good reliable defenseman and OEL was that before his injury, why would we think he is on the decline for another reason? We have accumulated the most difficult positions so we are looking for a 3rd line center and not a #2 Center or a #1 Center. We are looking for complimentary players for Hughes and Hronek. Easier then finding those two and way cheaper. If OEL is able to get back to what he was before his injury, that leaves us with just finding a partner for Hughes. Who says we need to do all of this ASAP are we instant contenders now? There needs to be Cap shedding and we have a multitude of contenders for this, it is no secret. We have plenty of time to shed what we don't want and gain what we need, there is no hurry, I am just glad there is a plan and it looks like it will work towards us contending one day. Good times are ahead.
  9. Are you still talking about past regimes because this one has not been here for very long. Do you think Petey and Hughes should have been in a number of playoff series already? They have for one year but do you think we were going anywhere with TG and JB? I think they can see the difference.
  10. This is not a finished product by any stretch of the imagination. Players still need to go and it is not going to happen overnight. Patience. They know they at least need a top 4 d man and a 3rd line center. After that , there will be more tinkering needed but they are also assessing what they have in the minors so why the rush? As it was this year, next year they will assess who needs to go and who will stay and where the holes in the roster are. Players develop, contracts end and teams have wants and needs that constantly change. Our team will improve and develop we just need to be patient and have confidence that this new regime is nothing like the ones in the past and they know how to build a championship team.
  11. I don't get this either. They were left with a mess and I don't think its easy to rid themselves of Benning's failures. They are not signing blank cheque's nor are they giving our assets away for nothing. They seem to be taking the patient approach. What's wrong with that anyway its not like we are contending for the cup next year. Myers is gone no matter what happens next year and probably a couple of our wingers. I am willing to wait to see how it pans out and I am confident these guys know what they are doing. They kind of have Stanley Cup rings to prove it so I am going to go with their plan.
  12. I am not surprised considering we had two rookie coaches over the last what like 10 years? I don't think Brock has ever seen an NHL coach before Tocchet. That's why I think we can see truly what we have now as a team because they now know how to win its just now whether they want to put in the work and sacrifice to get there. What we seen in the last part of this season is pretty much what we will see starting next year but with our injured players returning.
  13. I agree, they outshot us EVERY GAME, Demko literally stole a few to get us that far.
  14. Good teams find their opponents weaknesses and go from there. The playoffs have not been good to us and our weaknesses have been found over the years. That's why i like Tocchet. he is preparing this group to adapt to different styles of play. Our chances go way up if teams can't find a chink in our armour.
  15. Ok how about the Ferlund led Calgary playoff series , did we have a chance in that one too? We have not been able to contend with any big fast team for decades.
  16. We never had a chance, we were over matched.
  17. The biggest difference being that he is a top 6 player. Like a Tkachuk or a Jamie Benn, there are not many players like this. No wonder there were so many trade rumours before the trade deadline. A well sought after commodity.
  18. Yes our softies in the past had no business in the playoffs. The bigger teams like Vegas just had their way with us. Although we play with a lot more grit, we are still too small to compete with the big boys. I would really like to see how are smaller, lighter players withstand the riggers of a long playoff push before committing them to long term contracts but that is probably a little too unrealistic. Players like Miller, Joshua and Podz will be fine, I am just worried about some of the others.
  19. Looking at that list, we have had a go with many of them with not much success, I sure hope this management group can get it right this time.
  20. I agree JT is not an easily replaceable asset. A #2 Center who brings to the table what he does do not grow on trees. I am sure Petey and Hughes would much rather have him on the team then not. He compliments them. Most of the tougher pieces have been acquired and it is key that we find complimentary players to this core group. We have a multitude of expendable players that would go before JT. We have an abundance of Offensive wingers and Offensive defenseman. They will be utilized to gain cap space that is needed. OEL played great for us BEFORE his injury and I see no reason for him to get back to that level. He will be fine next season. Myers will definitely be the one to go to get us Cap relief, its just a matter of when.
  21. I think Alvin alluded to that in that we could make Hockey Trades. We could move on positions from strength(i.e. Offensive defenseman/Wingers) to defensive defenseman and a 3rd line center.
  22. The game that showed we were different was the Toronto game. We finally didn't let the opposition dictate the game to us. They tried to out work us and get physical with us and we responded. The last games of this season showed truly where we are in our development. The BB games were basically Demko standing on his head and a lot of luck. We are getting NHL level coaching finally, after years of experimentation(WD/TG), and it shows.
  23. The good thing about this new management group is that they realize that it is the player who dictates where he plays and he is not being thrown into a position where he does not belong. I think they gave Hogs as an example of that. When Silovs is ready , he will join the big club. He didn't look out of place(on the big club), so I don't think it will be long.
  24. We had players on this team, and probably still have a few, that play the game as a job and that's it. The country club? We have seen a few who are ultra competitive and want to win badly, and it shows. The good thing about management is that they know the difference and are keeping the right guys. I foresee in the near future that we will have a team hell bent on winning and will take a pay cut to do it. We are moving in the right direction IMHO.
