  1. Can we go back to this time? The only player I had issue with was Murzyn and it wasn't because of his effort; he was just a little slow.
  2. I actually think it's the same and the same leadership throughout Nazzy, Hanks and Bo's tenures as Captains. The team stopped playing the second half of the season Torts was here just as they did the first half of last year. The work ethic has lacked for a long time, and we all know consistency is not this team's strong point and hasn't been for a very long time. I think we get so caught up on individual players we fail to see what the team is doing overall. Many of us would be happy if this team just gave 110% every night regardless.
  3. Not to mention he is a SNIPER who has failed to snipe once this year. I have noticed he treats the puck like a hot potato and usually dishes before even thinking of shooting. I think he is actually getting worse and has probably got in his own head.
  4. We have OK offensive leaders but not many defensive leaders. Schenn is one of the few that come to mind.
  5. Gretzky didn't need to fight, he had Semenko. Yzerman and Lemieux DID fight when needed. Sakic never backed down to anyone. McDavid has been lately finishing his checks and he uses his big body to his advantage. Bourque? I don't remember seeing him fight. Petey is what I call a "stick checker" he is going to pick your pocket as opposed to bodying someone off the puck. It may work sometimes but not every time. When it doesn't, his opponent is off to the races. He has been taking the body more this year, which is great. You are correct, though, he is very similar to Hank in ways I wish he wasn't.
  6. I take issue with a Captain who may never be able to fight or stick up for himself when a bigger, stronger player decides to make an example of him. When "defense" wins championships, and your leader cannot lead by example in this regard? That's an issue.
  7. With 13 points in 14 games after he signed, I am not sure he was playing for his payday. His issue this year and the same as last, is his defensive abilities as it is for most of the roster.
  8. If he panned out, he would have been the type of player we needed. Unfortunately, after his hit on McDavid, his play went downhill from there.
  9. Good analysis and really shows this team is built with mainly Offensive minded players. Many of our players are not willing to pay the price for good team defense, other than Schenn. The other problem is that our hardest working players and are most defensively responsible, are also our smallest players on the team.
  10. Yeah, because when a hockey player lacks attributes to play the game effectively, we look to find someone else to cover for them, got it. Also, the Montreal game showed how they did not body the smaller players off the puck and decided not to body check. So, I would beg to differ on the comment that they "use their size effectively".
  11. ..............and yet Schenn is showing how the defense should be playing , UNDER THE EXACT SAME SYSTEM!
  12. I agree but do they play like a Tkachuk? or a Lucic? or a Evander Kane? Not really. The possibility is there but the want is not always there. Miller more so, but still nothing like it needs to be. I have seen both of them hit more lately though which is good but needs to be more consistent.
  13. ......because almost all of our defense consists of offensive minded players with the exception of Schenn of course.
  14. You said it yourself, Demko last season and this one, BIG DIFFERENCE! Its the players intensity and "want" to do the small things that have a huge impact in this league. Take the night off and your probably going to lose, even if it's a team like Arizona or some other bottom feeder. The Nashville game was a perfect example. The intensity increased after the first period and we had no answer back. A good defensive team should be able to get a lead and then shut down the opposition. We do not have the intensity, strength, intimidation or defensive prowess to play that way. Look at the stats. We can score and have success on the PP. The PK or our shutdown ability? Not so much. The Torts era was a perfect example. The first part of that season we did well, the second half of the Season? The entire team shut down and that's on the players, not the coach(s). This team has always needed more Honey Badgers or Burroughs type players but with more size and bite. No pun intended.
  15. Coaches and assistant coaches are consistently changed, yet the same results keep occurring.
  16. This is what I see as our biggest issue. We have offensive players who lack intimidation or strong defensive ability. Hence, we consistently blow leads, get intimidated and get out played consistently. This is what I disliked about the Sedins, when they were allowed to play their game, they were magic. When the intensity increased or the physicality increased, their abilities diminished. The only player I see that help us in these situations are players like Schenn and maybe Burroughs. Players like Pearson, Bo and Miller can hold their own, but they are not going to intimidate or outmuscle bigger, stronger players. There is an imbalance on this team that needs to be rectified, now. As much as all of us like our smaller, non-physical offensive players, we need to mix in the Tkachuks, Kane, Lucic type of players in there somewhere. Otherwise, we are just going to go round and round in this merry go round for years and years to come.
  17. This makes sense "IF" Bo is willing to budge on his demands. Bo says he is a "Team First " kinda guy but his actions are not speaking that. He is pumping himself up for that big pay day and nothing else. Miller budged and that is the only reason he has a new contract. I am sure they would have did the same for Bo if he worked with them.
  18. I am sure some teams are looking for more offense and are willing to give up more defensive minded players for them. We have an over abundance of smaller offensive players but no one to play the PK or help us hold leads.
  19. This is my main stumbling block as well. A good player, but all of these "good players" are getting us nowhere.
  20. I am just wondering why it took his 9th season with us to break out like this. Is this his contract year? Just sayin.
  21. This is what I had hoped we would move towards , a big fast defensive minded team. We would have a hard time fighting our way out of a wet paper bag.
  22. All that you said is very true but I think what it boils down to is that we are too heavy on the smaller offensive players and lack the big ,heavy defensive players period. None of our offensive guys are particularly good at defense and yet we put them on the PK? What? The same with our D, all are pretty much offensive minded D(Myers, OEL, Hughes, Rathbone, Bear) and I would only call Schenn our only defensive defenseman and he is getting up there in age. No wonder we can't hold leads after we get ahead. We got rid of our defensive guys(Beagle,Roussel,Erickson) all at once, which was good because they were too expensive but it also took away the defense, period. It didn't help losing Tanev either. Out of Petey, Bo and Miller 1 of them needs to go. Out of the Boeser, Garland, Podz, Hogs, Mik, Kuz probably 2 or 3 of them need to go Out of Myers, OEL, Hughes, Rathbone I would say 2 need to go. Bring in guys with size, strength and are strong on defense and it should balance out a bit more. I know its easier said then done but we have to make an attempt to move in that direction because the issues we have now will only compound if they somehow actually make it to the playoffs. I always thought it was tougher to get the Core and building around them was the easier part, apparently not.
  23. That would mean having an actual PLAN? He is right, there needs to be cohesion and chemistry and that is not there and hasn't been there for a long time. I think our core players and the fans would be on board with that idea for sure.
