This is bang on! and I am pretty sure what most of the discussion today will be about. That and guys are getting BEAT UP and no one wearing the same jersey seems to care.

I think a few of us have been emphasizing this and I think it has finally come to the realization for many. We have the skill, we just don't have the rest to allow the skill to flourish. You watch Hughes now and he is hesitant where he was not when he first began his NHL career. Same as Petey, Boeser etc. etc. the list goes on. I see Garland getting pummeled almost every shift now and this will affect his play too eventually. Some have mentioned "Pack Mentality" in the past, we need to see that from EVERY MEMBER OF THE TEAM!

I agree and I really thought we were trending in the right direction. The Edmonton game we started out hitting and keeping Kane and Nurse on their toes and I think we even frustrated Nurse in to a penalty or two. Then nurse hit Burroughs, no reaction and then Hughes high sticked, no reaction. We seemed to have gone downhill from there. Same when Daniel was famously "speed bagged". We need to be able to show we are able to hold our own and we won't be pushed around. The term "TSN Turning point" comes to mind. -

No they first get a lead, and then they go flat. Big difference. -

Nope just a little more then just skating away would suffice. -

Those were just examples, there are many aspects and my point was that not all great players are Captain material and vice versa. We have had a type of leader on this team for decades which has not brought us much success. Just looking for a change is all. As far as filling a hole in the line up. Petterson has taken more responsibility as has Miller. We have more depth on top 9 wingers as well, we'll be fine. -

Does Stamkos skate away when one of his team mates are in trouble or getting roughed up? -

This is what irritates me. Many say we are not good enough to even make the playoffs but I don't see it that way. We are good enough to come out and play well enough to get a lead in a game its what we do after that is what is the problem. We don't have the "Mental Toughness" to hold that lead which has nothing to do with talent and has everything to do with the "Character" and "leaderships skills" of the team. We take the foot off the gas for some reason and lack that killer instinct. We fix this and I believe we can then play to our potential. Blaming Coaches and this player or that player or what the team lacks in positional players is secondary to this major issue IMO. -

I don't see how some cannot see the importance of this type of leadership. Does anyone really think we put up a good fight in 2011 and gave 110% ? Have we ever seen Nazzy or Hank go out there and win a game single handedly? or at least attempt to? Have we seen them go out there and lay a big hit or get in a fight to rile up the team? We couldn't even get them to stick up for their fellow team mates or themselves. Great players, no mistake, but the leadership and Captaincy responsibility should have been placed on others and they should have been left to do what they do best. Bo is a cookie cutter from the past leaders, time for change. -

This is something this team does often. We then put them on a pedestal so high we see them as untouchables. The problem with these "untouchables"? They never bring us consistency or a Championship. -

I see two items that are "The" Problem. Yes not playing a full 60 minutes and no one on this team has ever stepped up on a regular basis when we are down. These two things have plagued us forever. So, who is responsible for this? I have suggested it is the leadership but others have different ideas. I think many of us would be happy with a solid effort even if we lost. So why can't this team play a full 60 minutes? Anyone? -

I would argue he was underachieving the first half of the season and only played his "Normal" play for the second half. Not what I expect from the Captain. -

What about Oct, Nov and Dec? Shouldn't leadership be there for the team the whole season? -

I am too. We have heard for years "We need to be better". Well when are they going to put what they say to actual "on ice" performance? If it hasn't happened yet, I don't think it will later in the season and for sure not in the post season. We seen the same in the preseason too. Frustrating. -

This is a good point, we don't have a good track record for being patient in the past. Messier? Our Goalie? -

Considering how that season went I truly had very high expectations when the playoffs came around. That PP during the regular season almost scored at will. During the playoffs they played tentative and almost looked nervous to make a mistake, there was no swagger to their game at all. Even when they were leading the finals at 2-0 they lost their confidence and played that tentative game for the rest of the series. Is that leadership? or something else? I don't know. -

I don't know I don't think that group was all together either. They faced adversity and no one stepped up. Kess tried for one series. They were just as shaky and nearly lost the series before they made it to the final. I don't think Kess and the Sedins were on the same page either, similar to Miller and Bo. -

I am thinking the same, he was still producing when most of his teammates had checked out last year. One thing that has been consistent with him is his passion and his obvious desire to win at all costs. I will reserve my thoughts on his play this season. -

We change the Coaching we change some of the players but what remains? The LEADERSHIP. We know the "Culture" needs to change as we see the same type of play occur over and over and we wonder why. I always said that Nazzy, Hank and now Bo would have been just fine playing without the "C" on their jersey. JR said he needed to change the Country Club atmosphere here? We can talk about individual players and coaches as being the problem, but this(LEADERSHIP) needs to change above anything else IMHO. -

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
EdgarM replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I feel the same he was my favorite player for a long time. I just thought he would develop and grow into more like Linden or something similar. I take the team ahead of any one individual player every time and I think the team needs a new direction. -

I feel this way too it just seems nothing with him spells I want to lead this team to a Stanley Cup. He does a lot of things "OK" and he is really good at face offs but I am looking for more then that in a Captain. This is his 9th Season here and he is what he is. He helped in the transition from the Sedins but I think its time for him to move on as well. This team is ready for a new identity and I don't think that will happen with him here.
