[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
EdgarM replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Do you remember what the Twins looked like when they first came in to the NHL? They were like kids playing with men! Petey looks way stronger this year and I believe this will be his break out year, about the same time Hank exploded in his point production in his fifth season. As Miller ages? I think you have a few year still when we need to contemplate that idea. Don't forget Bo is only a couple of years behind him in age. We will see how this season progresses. -

I would rather have a "Sutter" type Center there with maybe a little bit more size, strength and speed. I know its a lot to ask but i think we have trade pieces that might help us get there. We do need some players who can play Defense really well. -

I think Petey might edge up there as an "Elite" before his next pay raise and I never said anything about wanting Miller/Petey on the wing, that is just how they have been deployed as Petey develops. i am not sure Bo fits the bill as that big , fast, hard checking center we need on this team. Yes he produces somewhat in offense and is good at face offs but he is not known for getting in your face, hard checking by any stretch of the imagination. I think about his ability to check players like Draisaitl and McDavid and if we had a faster , bigger, stronger Center to carry out these duties. I just see that now that we have the core players in place, we need to start to fine tune the rest of the team where we can deal with any situation that is thrown to us, especially in the playoffs. -

This is very true but what is your reasoning for Bo to be not part of that? Bo has been our "Go to" guy for many years on this team for sure. Since then, we drafted Petey and accumulated Miller. Not only that, but both are being paid as #1 Centers. Ideally yes, Bo stays, but we realistically we have to look at what he is asking for and if it fits our Cap limit. Yes the same applies with our wingers. Boes and Kuz are big question marks too. Right now, we have an excess(for lack of a better word) of top wingers and centers and no RHD's. I think the biggest question mark is how the team is going to deploy Petey. He started on the PK last year and i am wondering if he will be getting more Face off duties this year. If he remains more of a winger then that makes Bo more valuable, if not, do we really need Bo at the rate he is going to command? Realistically I see a third line Center being paid in the 3-4 Million range. I think we have some time to figure what fits and what doesn't and I think that Bo is an option to move just as much as Boeser or Myers etc. TBH. -

Add Miller's 8 Million contract to that and can we really afford Bo? Lets just see how Petey is deployed this year and I think that will tell us what direction the team is going with this. -

I thought I heard that they have been talking to Bo's camp for awhile now and I thought they were saying in the Summer that they were going well. What makes you think Miller is going to go "Loui" on us? He seems real competitive so I think he will good for us for a few more years to come. I hear ya on the frustrations of being a Canuck Fan, we have definitely had more downs then ups over the years. I really feel optimistic of this new group though. -

Yeah I never said get rid of Bo I said that the Team has signed 2 Centers which are being paid as a #1 and #2 Center so maybe they have already decided. I have nothing to do with it. I do feel more comfortable though that Bo cannot hold us as hostages to give him more money. If he wants to sign at a reasonable rate, then there is nothing to see here. If he wants to max out, then there lies the issue. -

Do you have inside access to negotiations? Seriously though, I think they were both presented with offers and Miller decided that winning was more important then a few extra bucks. Bo? Well we are still waiting so I am thinking not. Some players just see money as more important then building a championship team. Thats OK, I would rather see their real colors show before we sign them to a very long contract which we cannot back out of. -

When the new management mentioned that the "Culture" of the team needs to change and Miller getting signed and Miller always mentioning that they need to be accountable in playing at a high compete level ALL of the Time? This and Bo still not signed, I am beginning to see that maybe management has already decided what changes they are looking at? Bo has had great moments but he has also had times where he has disappeared and has been inconsistent. I am not sure if we need to do any........."guessing" at this point. -

I think you just need to look at Hanks first 4 seasons and then look at Peteys, he will be fine and I think this is the year we see a break out from him. Having this occur and I am sorry, Miller is no where near ready to be relegated to being a winger, Bo will find himself as the third man in very soon. Miller is currently our #1 Center and soon him and Petey will be our 1,2 punch. Not sure Bo would like that and honestly, I would like to see Bo on a team where he is the soul #2 C. I think he has earned it. -

Your statement brings up a few questions. So even if Bo doesn't return a top 4 D, having to pay 3 Centers above 7 millon dollars is not going to allow us to afford someone even if we find one. You are right, we have an excess of wingers as well but I think ANY COMBINATION of our current top 9 forwards should be looked at when trying to locate a D man, including Bo. I think you underestimating Petterson's capabilities and i think the only thing that was holding him back before was his strength and muscle growth and it looks like that has improved this year. He definitely has all of the other tools to be a top Center for sure. -

I think this is the case also. We live in a Cap world and having three great Centers is obviously going to make us weaker somewhere else. The more Petey improves, the less important Bo becomes. I believe the really only move here is for Bo to sign a team friendly deal or move on to where he think he can get more. The Sedins were great players too but somewhere along the line there is an expiry date for everyone. -

I think we can agree that we don't have our next "WCE" or "Lotto Line" in place yet and that might influence on what happens to our top 6 moving forward? With the group of Wingers and Centers we have now, I think the set group is yet to be determined. I am thinking this season we will see a more defined group with lines that work or not. -

I just think at some point , the team needs to establish "Set Lines" for ,chemistry reasons, and that Petey needs to be put in his spot on the team where he can grow to his full potential. Not sure if that can occur if Bo and Miller are around for the next 7-8 years. -

EdgarM replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
No that is not what I am saying, I think most likely he will be resigned but if he cannot come to an agreed upon contract extension then there might be no choice but to move him. Having Miller and Petterson gives them wiggle room if he decides to ask for the moon and becomes "unreasonable" in his demands. -

Well Miller just signed a "Long Term" contract and Petey will be given a raise as our #1 Center. I think most of us can see the writing on the wall. -

And in a Cap Era how much can we afford to pay said Centers? Absolutely? Many on here will disagree with that. I think some get a little attached, emotionally, to some players which may skew their view of their real worth. I think some say he is worth 6-6.5 million and let's not forget Miller just signed a "Team Friendly" contract. I have mentioned before, he was worth way more to this team before Petey and Miller came into the picture. Petey looks ready to take on more responsibility which will make Bo's worth even less to this team. -

I think he will be resigned too, most of the time that is usually the case. However, I think if Bo wants to play hardball, he will go just like Tanev, Markstrom etc. before him. Which is fine because that kind of Character will do us no good anyway if we are to win a Championship. -

Yeah just like Miller was going to be traded for sure? The team will do what is best for the team and that may or may not include keeping Horvat. Right now our needs are an affordable 3rd line checking center and a RHD or two. -

The way his negotiations are going right now, it doesn't look like that. If he is looking to be paid, Miller will replace him as the Captain. -

Yeah I think that changes this year. With Petey taking faceoffs and playing on the PK, those stats will change. -

Not at 7 million though. If he is part of the core, then why did we just sign Miller for a long term contract and we all know Petey is part of the core. We know he will not get paid anywhere near what Petey and Miller are getting so how is he considered part of the core? I guess if we are including our third string centermen(as part of our core) then I guess your right. -
There is a lot of good information here but I wanted to clarify a few things. This is not the PAST this is NOW! and a continual of roughly 200 hundred years. Indigenous People in Canada are considered "Wards" of the Government(according to the Indian Act) and that is why they can still do what they do. The Residential School system was replaced by the 60's scoop and then the Foster Care system. It NEVER ENDED! The government can actually reinstate the Residential school system(legally) if they wanted to. Kids are still being taken from parents, usually right from the Hospitals. Check out the stats and you will see that over 50% of Children in foster care are Indigenous in Canada. Also, Canada's natural resources were intended to be SHARED and that Indigenous people were to share in resource revenues and each were to leave the other alone and allow them to live their lives. We all know that they never held up their end of the bargain. Maybe GREED had something to do with it? It's a misconception that Indigenous programs come from tax payers revenue but it is actually coming from the Natural Resources pot. You would think that if Indigenous People were to receive 50%, that they could at least get clean drinking water? It is encouraging that the truth is finally coming to light and a few of the ancestors were able to keep part of the Culture and language alive. This is how the healing is able to occur and for pride to come back into many of their lives.
