Ok, my mistake, it looks like he changed his mind as well and went with 4. -

Oh.........., were you talking about some other "deficiencies" then? I get you never brought it up, but it sure looked like you were supporting his comment, No? -

Have the stats shown that we are really that bad with our current defense? They need work , yes, but only 3 NHL dmen? OK................ -

Bo making more then Petey and almost as much Miller? I don't think so. A good second line center should be around 6.5 and with a discount like Millers, a little less then that. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

I think market value for him is around 6.5. Anything under 6 I would see as a " I wanna win a cup" discount similar to Miller. -

I am sure glad someone else noticed this too! Another thing I noticed is that when Boeser was slumping, Miller noticeably fed Boeser the puck at every opportunity. I thought that was a sign of a player who leads by example and just doesn't make excuses when its time to be interviewed by the press. There are some leaders who just figure out a way to overcome as opposed to making excuses and quietly standing on the side lines. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

I think what you describe are "nice to have's" but are we willing to pay top dollar for that? He is definitely a player that has value but at what cost? Miller and Petey are being paid as top centers so can we afford to pay Bo the same? I did mention in another post that a lot depends on whether Petey is ready to take on a regular role as a Center or not. His face off ability was questionable last we checked. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

The problem is that many have become emotionally attached to Bo as he was the 'go to guy' for many of the lean years. Moving forward though, we have two centers who bring more offense and Miller who brings leadership qualities not seen in years. Now that Miller is signed, his importance has lessened, but many on here will not accept that. I think its a good problem to have though, we have the ability to see if Bo is willing to take less to win a championship. If not, then I guess he is not a good fit for the team moving forward anyway. -

Sorry to say but Bo is no #1 Center and so you need to ask what we are going to pay our #2 Center. Considering what Petey and Miller are getting, I don't see much room in being generous with Bo. I think the 6.5 range would be fair. I think we really need to concentrate on those players truly wanting to win a championship first and foremost. Other then Miller, we have not seen too many Canucks willing to make that sacrifice. -

Does Bo really want to Win a Cup?, apparently Miller does. -

I agree, just his salary is a little out of wack with the current cap structure. -

These are the two that are out of "wack" as far as the cap structure goes. Garland is fine if we could move these two and also do something with Meyers, we would be sitting pretty as far as cap space goes. -

I am hoping he makes a big step with taking face offs and continues to play well under BB. If he does this though, does that make Bo expendable? -

The big question is Petey. He has not been able to transition to the Center position and Bo and Miller have been the better options thus far. Maybe the option that needs to occur is to make him a winger and keep Miller/Bo as the centers. -

I think if Colorado can win a Cup without a top notch goalie, we will be OK. -

I think this has to be the situation if we are to keep Bo. Paying him to be the 3rd line center just would not fit in the current Cap structure. -

Yeah, No Bo is not getting paid what Miller is making. I see him more in the 6.5 range. Not really interested in keeping him if he is not willing to put the team first. -

This is the exact type of player who wins championships! This speaks volumes of his character and the type of player we rarely see in Vancouver. -

I think if he is willing to sign a reasonable contract it is still possible. -

I had made mention of that weeks ago. It made more sense. Its looking like a possibility now. -

So many on here were sure he was gone. Good contracts for our top two centers. As i mentioned on another thread, we cannot have three high priced centers. Management has shown who our #1 and #2 centers are now. Bo will need to sign a team friendly deal or he may be seen as expendable. The trade thoughts about Miller should have been about Bo as i mentioned before. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
EdgarM replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I really can't stop thinking how our Center man are going to look like once the dust settles. Are we going for the combo of Hank/Kessler again? Behind Petterson, will Bo be able to withstand aggressive play from another 2011 Boston team? Would a player like Miller be more suited for this role? I really think this dilemma has a lot to do with Bo and Miller not being signed yet. Some big decisions need to be made which will directly affect the future of this team. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
EdgarM replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Your right, at some point he is going to be useless to us but WHEN is that going to be exactly? Neither one of us know that as there are too many intangibles. We don't even know what's on the table so those "useless" years may not even be relevant. What I do no know, is that he is a valuable asset to us now and in the near future. Obviously if his demands are unreasonable sure we get rid of him but that is unknown at this point. I don't agree with accumulating a player like this in other ways(as indicated above) as then he is probably someone's throw away and we will probably over pay as well. If he comes in around 8 million I don't think he is center piece of this team. That is going to be most likely Petey and Hughes and Demko. The one I am actually hoping we don't over pay is Bo. He does a lot of things good but he is not a great player. Since we have not had anyone else for years, he has been put on a pedestal for his work here, but that's for another topic. -

= Cup half empty! .............. Seriously though, What makes no sense to me is to get rid of an asset that somewhere down the road you are going to need. A top Center who can produce and provide leadership. Yes 4-5 years down the road his play is going to decline but where do you find a player like this again? We have not had many on this team in the decades I have been following them. Probably Linden is the closest to comparison and maybe Kessler. I could mention Messier but that is just not right. I believe the recipe for success involves a player like Miller. He is not 100% a perfect player but he does provide attributes we have been lacking for decades. Leadership who doesn't back down or skate away. I have seen some near impossible transactions happen in the NHL so don't count out getting rid of our excess baggage just yet. I believe the right time will present itself and management will trim the fat when the opportunity arises.
