[Proposal] Trade Jake... sign Grabner
EdgarM replied to Provost's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Oh no I am not agreeing with you why would I do that? Bad defensively? Yeah OK. His + - doesn't show he is bad "defensively". I was indicating that he has never had a chance to play on a regular line to show what he can do. He is thrown around to line after line and I am sure he is not sure most nights what his role is supposed to be. I think most would liked to have seen him develop into a good power forward but he has not been given that role except for last year when he played with Miller and Petey. He did well offensively but I think it only lasted for like 9 or 10 games. Not a very good sample size for a player being here for 6 years or more. I think Green's idea for him is to be like a swiss army knife and move him where he is needed. Like a pinch hitter in baseball with no intent to actually develop him into anything. No real PP time or PK duties. So we all sit here and complain about him when he has been utilized as a utility player when we thought he was going to be given a different role on the team. If Jake was given 20 or so games on "HIS" line, and given opportunity on the PP and PK? and play more then 8-10 minutes a night? Then I might be closer to agreeing with you. -

Jake has never been given a chance to be a Penalty Killer, ever. Getting to play on 3 different lines every night and only playing 8-10 minutes a night is not going to give you a good picture of what he can do. Green does not like him for some reason and I am sure that will not change. But he is the team's "whipping boy" so continue on. -
It concerns me that players come here with that type of game engrained in them(i.e. Rooster, Myers, Virtanen, Mac) and at some point, they are all playing like they don't give a hoot about playing a physical game anymore. Why is that? I made mention of Jake's game going from , leveling McDavid , to , it looks like he is disinterested in any kind of physical play. Some call it lazy, but is it really though? Looking for a very inspired game tonight with hopefully a little physicality. GCG!

I agree, I guess I am just used to high compete players such as Sakic, Lemieux, Forsberg, Kariya, Linden, McDavid and teams like Vegas who compete at a high level and elevate their game when needed. This team has had decades of mediocrity and other then Kessler "upping" his game in 2011, there hasn't been much in the way of players elevating their game to inspire the troops. Bo did do a great job in the playoffs last year and I hoping he can elevate his game on a more consistent basis, especially when the team comes out "flat" like they have the last couple of games.
