Gaudette - Petey - Boeser Pearson - Bo - Hoglander Motte - Sutter - Virtanen Roussel - Beagle - Mac I think this would be a good TEMPORARY line up. The Sutter line looked great during the pre-season and I think this line up would not interfere with the top 6 too much. Gaudette could help with face offs and hopefully this gives us 3 lines which can produce offense. Sutter/Jake still have a chemistry from the past and it looks like Jake is more comfortable playing on his line.

Jake is a real anomaly because he showed real promise offensively and had shown aggression which would have been an asset in the top 6. For the past few years though he has been basically put on the third line and remained there and when he makes a mistake, he is benched. I don't see Green treating any of his other players like this, its odd. I agree he needed to learn defense but he was never given a lot of opportunity on the PP or PK and he has been on this team for years. With his speed and ability to check effectively, you would think he would at least be given opportunities on the PK. I agree about his hockey intelligence as well I seen how he can play but I feel he has been told to play a certain way and I don't think he is encouraged to play any other way. Its sad because I think he can be an integral part of this team but I think the damage is already done and probably the only way for him to flourish now is to move on to another team away from Green.

That was back when he was allowed to hit. I think that was "coached" out of him long ago. I liked that version of him as he had a bit of a more "mean streak" to his game. Back then he would level somebody and then he would have to sit on the bench for awhile. That's funny, that still happens actually.

So true, I wonder if some on here realize that sometimes in sports you win some and you lose some. The patience on here is so predictable and its literally "Tank", trade everyone one game and then we are "Winning the Cup" the next game. The impatience is rubbing off on the coach as well, 4 periods in to the season and he is throwing everybody's name in the bag and see's what his lines are going to be next. Patience People!

Thank You Darth very good post. Can't believe some on here are pinning this on Jake when he only played 10 minutes in this game and was basically taken off the top line after the first period. Not saying he played great but the TEAM did not play very good. Demko was just "Ok", Petey is not himself, Edler was beat a couple of times, Bo let McDavid walk around him after a faceoff for a goal, Hogs had a brain fart for a goal and got a "pat on the head" for it. The PP has NOT scored a goal in 2 games and was 0/5 last night. Every other player on the team was put on the top line and none of them could fare any better then Jake could so is he the problem for their woes so far? Green should have tried these in practice because we all know that he likes to line juggle when things aren't going right. But no, lets do it during a game instead? As usual, Jake has the shortest leash on the team and it showed last night. He was able to play a total of 4 periods before he was the "scapegoat" and made to warm the bench. The last I seen, before he was benched , that he was one of the few who could actually get a shot on net on the PP. I guess that's worse then the rookie coughing up the puck for a goal because he didn't get a "pat on the head" , he was benched instead. Jake is not the regular top line winger, he is FILLING IN!!!! Folks. This is a team sport and this was a team loss. Plain and simple.

I think Hoglander is here to stay so once Miller returns he will only be competing with Pearson. I am usually critical of Pearson's "work ethic" and "consistency" as well but he played a pretty darn good game last night which I hope he can keep up. Like I said before, lets see what happens over a couple of games before passing judgement.

Well that didn't take long, first game of the season. Very little time playing on the top line and no pre-season and FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON! , and he is AWFUL? I seen a little tentativeness in his game but he seemed more relaxed as the game went on, geez cut the guy a little slack, at least for a few games anyway.

First, I would like to say I liked a "loui-less" game for a change it just seems we are so much better depth wise and we don't have any gaping holes in the line up. A big shout out to our defense. I seen no instances where we were overwhelmed physically and hemmed in our own zone. Loved Tanev and Stech but they were outmatched many nights along the boards in their own zone which caused us to be playing in our own zone way too much. Hamonic looked a bit out of sorts but I am sure its because he has had no time to practice or get in game shape yet. OJ just needs to get more games under his belt. Brock is Back!!!!! Its been awhile since I seen that shot he possessed when he first exploded onto the scene. He is skating better and along with having that lethal shot, I see a great season ahead of him. I am sure its because he has had those nagging injuries(wrist, back) and now he looks to be 100% healthy. I liked what I seen from Holtby, he just seems so much calmer in the crease then Marky and doesn't panic. A very refined goalie who only moves as much as needed which makes him look very fluent and calm. If Demko can play as well as he did in the playoffs, we are going to be just fine in net. A great game played by the whole team and this is without a key player in the line up. Nice to see that they can move on and adapt without skipping a beat.

I believe from here on out, our chances are just going to get better and better. A very good time to be a Canuck fan for sure.

[Signing] Canucks sign Travis Hamonic

Yes I loved both of their hearts and desire but when the checking gets tougher, you either have to be smart like Hughes or a big brute like Chara. "Smurf Villagers" are made for the regular season. -
I imagine that will change at some point in the season.

I like Eriksson in parenthesis.

Heavy on the "tougher " part as the only time we had a chance in the playoffs is when we got Myers back. I won't cringe now when anyone but Edler or Myers comes over the boards come playoff time. -
I agree, many can't accept that he is no longer "that" player. He had years and years to prove himself but came up short of solidifying a regular NHL job. I see this a lot on this sight where a player is rated far higher then they actually are. He is one of those "one dimensional" players who needed to do his one attribute extremely well or find himself on the outside looking in. He is kind of the opposite of LE but with the same problem. This new NHL commands more of a "200 foot player" or a more "complete" player to stay competitive.
