Uhmm...........the mainstay last year? I can't even say his name, to me that is NOT an option. The only other one with limited time on that line is Jake. What about Motte or Gaudette? I think if Gaudette is not ready to run his own line he is going to have to play somewhere in the line up. I just think its narrow sighted to throw all of your eggs in one basket even though its just practice and scrimmage games. That should be the time to "experiment" IMHO.

He did look great with them, but , we have seen it before with rookies, they look good at first but then there are things they need to work on and they are sent back down. Then what? Then have a "try out" during the season? I think for at least the first couple of days, he could have threw a couple of line combos together to give him perspective if he needed to change things up during the season at some time. Especially at how we are with injuries. Sorry, Lui was a bad example, I was just trying to show how Green establishes a "Line" and then leaves it without seeing if something else will work better. WIlly D used to do the same thing with Megna and Chaput and it was very frustrating to watch.Who would have thought Gino would do so well playing alongside Bure or Carter or Burrows do so great along side the Sedins. It just takes an open mind to see what would work.

Like I stated before, I get they need time to re-establish their "sync" but I think Hog has a good chance(to make the team) yet he was never tried with Petey and what if he doesn't pan out who is going to play alongside Bo? No one but Hog has been playing on his right side so far. On the other hand, there has been quite a mish-mash with the bottom 6 lines though, so should there not be the same consideration taken for them? Its like Lui last year playing on Bo's wing, he has his mind made up and there is nothing that can be done to change his mind, or his creativity, when he makes a decision.

I am surprised at Green's lack of creativity with his line ups , we all know what the "Lotto line" can do and they have been together since the begininng of training camp. I agree they should get some time together but right off the bat? Same with Bo and Pearson. It justs shows his favoritism he has for certain players no matter how good or bad they play I guess.

Given top 6 minutes? For what , like a dozen games or so? I watch the whole team play, every game, I see no difference between him and Pearson. Virtanen has been basically a mainstay on the 3rd line, you would know that if you "watch him play".

I always believed Jake plays way better when he is allowed to be involved in the game. Jake showed it tonight what he can do when he is allowed to play a lot of minutes. Good to see for the team going forward.
-
Helps when he is deployed where he is supposed to be.

Did Baertchi play? Glad to see Lui is at least playing on the right line. Took awhile. Sure glad to see hockey back.
-
I agree, even when he plays great it seems some miss it or its not enough.
-
I see chemistry with them. I like it.

Sutter, Motte, Virtanen line look great. Very good at maintaining possession. Hope they stay together.

I am not sure where you guys come to your conclusions regarding your statements. Goals Assists Points plus/minus Here are the stats(last year): Top 6 wingers Miller 27 45 72 11 Boeser 16 29 45 4 Pearson 21 24 45 -4 Ericksson 6 7 13 -2 Bottom 6 Wingers Virtanen 18 18 36 -4 Gaudette 12 21 33 -7 Roussel 7 6 13 As you say "Grinders on the 4th line"? Motte 4 4 8 Beagle 2 6 8 Sutter 8 9 17 Comparables from these numbers puts him closer to Pearson and he definitely does not produce "Grinder" numbers. With regular duties and minutes in the top 6, I am guessing his numbers would be closer to Pearson's. Pearson's numbers were a career high for him last year so I am not sure he is going to repeat that again. Virtanen's on the other hand have increased every year and considering his age, will most likely still go up. Gaudette still has room for growth as well but nothing so far is indicating he will provide more scoring then Virtanen at this point. Points aside, I believe the top lines require elements of speed. forechecking and the ability for a winger to get in the dirty areas to retrieve the puck. Not sure if Gaudette or Ericsson can do that effectively at this point. This becomes even more of an issue come playoff time, as we witnessed last year. The "pretty play" is nice in the regular season, playoffs? ,Not so much.

How abut the "Team toughness" of this group? Truly the dark days of this franchise.

[proposal] - If Sven Baertschi makes the team........

I am pretty sure he has been shopped throughout the NHL, so nobody else wants him either. -

He was inconsistent and needed to work on his defensive play. His overall offense was never a concern for him. It was unfortunate in his injury as there were better options for the coach by the time he was fit to play. I don't agree with all of them, especially Ericksson, but thats what the coach deemed his best line up. -

Playing OK in the minors isn't the same as the NHL and I thought your argument was because of "injury problems"? Either way, he was ELIGIBLE to be called up last year and WASN'T. If he is what you say he is he at least should have outplayed lowly Lui for a spot on the roster but we know that didn't happen. So............................ -

Oh!.... is that why he played the entire year last year in the minors and was never called up? I see. -

The only reason these guys(Baertchi/Ericksson) are on this team is because they are under contract and they are untradeable assets, plain and simple. -
Looks like typical Green creativity with his lines and he obviously still has it out for Jake. Talked down on him in his interview and its only the beginning of training camp. Frustrating to see Wiily D like favortism from our coach, I thought we were past that.

The whole league underestimates this team and they finish the season top 3 in their division. There is another goalie controversy as both goalies play well. Jake is again relegated to the 3rd and 4th lines and he requests to be traded. Petey and Hughes continue on and improve over last year. Boeser improves over last year but is still inconsistent. He gets shuffled to different lines again, as does Gaudette. OJ surprises and begins his NHL career as a legit eventual top 4 dman. A winger is added at the trade deadline. We make it past the first round again.

Stats wise you would think so but the same outcome occured didn't it. Where the 94' team lacked skill they made up for in heart, determination and character. This shows it takes more then just skill to win a championship. The 94' team played like a "Team". The 2011 team lost a couple of players and they all fell apart, they needed all of their skill and without it, they were rendered useless. Their game 7 they couldn't even muster up a legitimate fight. It was embarrassing. You would think 2 of the best offensive players this team has ever seen AND arguably the best goalie we have ever had(as some as posters have stated), we could have mustered up enough to win 2 of the last 5 games of that series. The 2011 team struggled throughout the entire playoffs and were almost eliminated prior to the final. They were pretty dominant in the REGULAR SEASON though. -

Linden , Bure , Mclean and the rest of the 94 Canucks say Hi! This team never "crumbled" in game 7, they gave EVERYTHING they had right until the very end. -

Fully agree, after watching this team for over 3 decades we have never had a d man like Hughes, ever. Seen many other teams have key d men like Neidermeyer,Leetch,Housley,Coffey,Bourque,Zubov etc. Having a player on your team like this is Huge! Hamhuis was good but he was not the offensive threat like the above mentioned. Not even close. Same with Lumme. Another player we have never had on this team is Meyers. Yes we have had aggressive dmen before but none that could also put up offensive numbers. Think Byfuglin or Pronger and not Murzn or Alberts. Many of our dmen over the years have been "one dimensional" and lacked a full game. Salo, had a killer shot but was slow and was not very aggressive. He tended to be injured at key times as well. Bieksa, was aggressive but lacked any real offensive threat. Jovo? The same. Having a top prospect and a top minute dman as your 5th and 6th in depth, is a luxury I have never seen on this team before. The real test is going to be playoff success and a chance for these guys to at least play a few NHL games together. Having 1 or 2 of these key pieces to the puzzle on your d core is great, having all of them at once? Thats an exciting prospect I cannot wait to see how it pans out. This is definitely a great time to be a Canuck fan for sure. -

I fully agree, our trend away from being a "pillowy soft" team is going to pay dividends in the playoffs. The excuses for not sticking up for each other is getting less and less. I love what this team is becoming!
