  1. I am glad someone else sees how he is being mismanaged. He was touted as one of our young prospects but he has not been able to play through his "growing pains" like the rest. Instead its "oh you made a mistake? sit your a$$ on that bench until I say you can come out!" I fully agree, stick him out there playing a regular shift in the top 6 and let him sink or swim. After 20 games or so and there is no change? OK rethink the plan with him, but giving him a couple of shifts, periods and even a few games to assess what you have is useless. Would love to see what he could do sitting in front of the net on PP#1 or killing penalties. We could say the same about Boeser, an unforgettable rookie season where he looked like the second coming of Bure and ever since then, he has been spotty and inconsistant since then. He has been bumped to the bottom 6 for a few games and then back into the top 6 he goes. Last year, he was promoted back into the top 6 AFTER HE PRODUCED NOTHING in the bottom 6. Not dissing Boes in any way I just think Green is treating some players one way and treating others different. I agree with the IQ thing, he has been told what to do almost every shift and I am sure he goes out thinking what does the coach want me to do now? I am sure it is in the back of his mind all of the time. Just leave him alone for a few games and see what he does. This is supposed to be young team which is letting the prospects develope so Green needs to let ALL of the prospects DEVELOPE!
  2. You can argue all you want about LE's usefulness in the top 6 but the bottom line is, when you are down a goal and you are looking for offense in your top 6, LE is not going to help you. When Pearson, Boes, EP or Bo are getting roughed up, LE is not going to help you one bit. When you are looking for a spark, or a well planned hit, LE is not going to help you. If you need a speedy winger to help with a team with a quick transition, LE is not going to help you. But you go ahead and keep telling yourself that LE is usefull anywhere in the line up but on the 3rd or 4th lines. Oh now we are going to change the story line and go on offensive time only? Yeah OK. And your last statement" If you want more ice time, or a bigger role, you need to make the most of the time you get. You need to show you deserve more. " is interesting considering Jake showed he could produce in the top 6 yet he was demoted back to the checking line when Boes, who produced nothing in the bottom six in that same time line, went back into the top 6. Its all nice in theory but like I said, Green has another agenda for Jake in which no other player on the team is treated the same. I won't even get into LE's showing that he "deserves more".
  3. Just look back at those players in the playoffs and you will see we have made a huge upgrade on defense. The only D we had that could manage a lot of the bigger guys in the playoffs was Edler and Meyers. Otherwise we got hemmed in our zone and we were lucky we had Demko and Markstrom most nights. Having Meyers out with injury was down right scary, defensively.
  4. I agree , if your not playing like QH in the playoffs, and your that small, you need to be able to clear the front of the net. He had some good games, but overall, he was manhandled by the bigger bodied teams like Vegas. Loved that he was local and he gave his all, but you need more then that to win a championship, sorry Stech.
  5. "Gifted"? You mean like our boy Ericksson being put in the top 6 when he brings nothing and I mean nothing to the top 6? Yes he still has a bit of defensive ability left and with that , he should be deployed in the bottom 6 where "Offensive" is a little less important. Motte's ATOI for the playoffs was 15:17 and Jake's was 11:16. For those who saw any significnt ice time in the playoffs, only Gaudette and Roussel seen less ice time then Jake. For what I seen of Jake when he first started in the NHL , and now, there definitely is a difference in his play. You see less consistency and less effort , I see a player who is held to a much higher standard then everyone else on the team by the coach and therefore treated differently. When he hit everything that moved and skated hard, he was critiqued and asked to be more responsible defensively. So instead of playing his game, he is being asked to be a 3rd or 4th line checker without even being tested with more offensive assignments. When he was put in those positions, out of neccesity, (i.e. injuries) Jake produced. Instead of being rewarded he was relegated back to the checking line. Jakes time playing in the top 6 has been very sporadic to just a few games, a few periods and sometimes even as little as a few shifts. Not enough time to see what he really could do if he was TRUSTED to play there on a consistant basis, but LE does? Sitting him in the press box at the beginning of the playoffs with no apparent reason I don't know if I would come out flying and playing my butt off for the coach either. To me, it just seems he would be a much better performer if he was treated as a pro and not like he is the coaches kid playing in minor hockey.
  6. Sure beats giving an injury prone "softy" 4 X 4.5 and pay a little fella another 1.7? Seriously though, a top pairing dman who can play in all situations and all styles is a steal at that price. Its a no brainer really.
  7. Getting Schmidt is another perfect example of what JB is building here, character players who are not "softies". I believe the next to go are LE, Baertchi and ,not going to be popular by many, Boeser. All of the other players on the team have the ability to play "Playoffs Style" Hockey ALA Vegas. This is not Nazzy's team or the Sedin's Team, this is the team which will go into the playoffs with "heart and soul" like the days of Bure and Linden. Last year was just a taste of what is still to come. Hang on to your seats Canuck fans, the fun is just beginning.
  8. This is exactly what the objective is, getting rid of the "Softy's" which has been our identity for far too long. I think if there was a way to rid ourselves of the biggest Softy, Ericksson, I am sure it would have been done long ago. Loved Tanev and Stech's efforts but way too soft for playoff type play. Getting Holtby was genius if you ask me, Markstrom played very well for a short period of time and still looked like he struggled when he tired and he also was very prone to injuries, it seemed. There is now no controversy with the Seattle expansion and Holtby is still an NHL proven and Cup Winning goalie. Loved what JB has been able to do and I look forward to see what he has up his sleeve next.
  9. I see you failed to add all of the stats while you are bashing Jake. I also like how you used a small sample of stats going with the 17 games or ,16 games for Jake, in the playoffs. Jake played the least amount of minutes on the team ahead of only Gaud and Rouss. If you look at the stats for the entire year , it paints a different picture. He was 4th on the team in hits and had 28 blocked shots ,which puts him in the average for the team. All while having ranked 20th on ATOI. I guess Green thought 19 other players should be playing ahead of Jake? So with ALL THIS ICE TIME he is getting you still want him to be scoring every game and playing like Motte who is way more involved in the game? I think your expectations are a little high for Jake and I bet if he was given the opportunity to play more regular minutes, you would see a different player. I still can't believe people over look the time Jake was put into the top 6(for only a few games I might add) and produced at about a point per game pace. This while Boeser replaced him on the third line and produced NOTHING! But yeah no one is the problem here except Jake, yeah OK.
  10. Its funny you are critical of all these things yet his production improved year over year the last 3 seasons and his defensive play improved drastically. All of this while getting very limited ice time and very little time in the top 6 or top PP. Somehow however, LE EARNED his way in the top 6 with ZERO PRODUCTION! Now by your description above I woud swear you were talking about Ericksson. For the past 3 seasons I believe Jake has done everything that Green wanted him to but what kind of reward does he get? No reward just sitting on the bench with limited ice time or relegated to the press box. Is this what we do to our prospects on a team that is developing its young guys? Even when he did produce in the top 6 he was not rewarded and relegated back to the checking line with no logical explanation for the move. So much for rewarding those who earned it. I just think he is disinterested in playing for Green after all of the hoops he has jumped through with zero results. Green needs to go back to the AHL where he belongs and let the big boys handle the pros.
  11. Some people see "low IQ" I see a player who has been bounced around different lines where he was never put on a regular line for the majority of his career here. So does the coach want him to play mainly defensively? Offensively? Aggressive? Not aggressive? I believe all of the things not very positive with his game could be attributed to the coaches deployment of him thus far. I would have liked to see what he could have done in the front of the net on the #1 PP play or see some PK duties at some point in his career. I would have like to have seen more of him 3 on 3 as well but it just seems Green just simply has his own idea what Jakes capabilities are. I feel he was never given the chance to succeed. Many see Jake as the problem when really Green is the guy with no imagination our creativity in seeing what his team can really do. These guys are young and have so much potential but he insists on playing Lui who has absolutely no offensive or aggressive ability "what-so-ever " playing in the top 6 on a regular basis. The only "mismanagement" I see here is keeping Travis Green as the Coach.
  12. Totally agree, Boes and Lui are 2 perfect examples of players being treated differently. I would have have iced many different players before Lui and Boes on many nights. How these 2 remained in the top 6 had me scratching my head a lot of times. Jake was basically a point per game while he switched lines with Boes and Boes had next to 0 points in that time span and yet Green moved Boes back in the top 6, What? Pearson is another who coasted on a lot of nights and remained in the top 6. Jake with 43 goals in the last 3 seasons and consistent improvement year over year pointwise, while playing on the third and fourth lines tells me he is doing a lot better then what a lot of guys on here are giving him credit for. Give him CONSISTENT time in the top 6 and PP time, and I bet you see a drastic improvement to his numbers easily.

  14. It's your opinion that he has been treated "very fair" Bree. He still hasn't "grown up"? This concerns an NHL hockey coach how? Are we concerned that he doesn't clean his room as well? Come on, these are pro's who are young and are not perfect either on or off the ice. Its not like he'd robbing banks in his off time. Like I stated before, if he comes to work "out of shape" then play him until he drops. I am sure for his own sake he would not want to do that on a regular basis. Its like Green is waiting for him to make a mistake or not have a good shift and "BAM" riding the pine he goes. He was playing in the top 6 for a short time when your boy "the flow" was not producing and produced at a rate of a point per game when given the opportunity. Then I guess he has a couple of lackluster "shifts" and back to the checking line he goes, while Boeser, who did nothing, gets relegated back into the top 6. How about playing LE like he matters or can produce offensively to warrant playing in the top 6 on a "REGULAR BASIS". Come on! Really? Jake was treated like a minor leaguer early on in his career and was sent to the minors, once he made it to the big club, Green should have been treating him like a Pro as he earned it. Since I am chatting with you Bree, I would much prefer Jake on the team over Boeser because if both of them are not producing offensively, Jake can still check, hit and play a defense game which contributes to the teams overall success. Boeser does not contribute much if he is not scoring goals and in the final series in the playoffs, he was non-existant.
  15. I agree and I beieve the only thing holding him back is Green. Let the guy work through his growing pains and stop treating him like a minor leaguer. He has improved year over year and the only deficiency I see is his confidence and motivation, which can be directly or indirectly related to how he is treated by the Coach. The potential is still there in that he is still young, big, fast and can produce when given the opportunity. Like others said he can play up and down the line up and play various types of games(up tempo, aggressive, trap) when needed. Get Coach Green off his back and then see how he blossoms.
  16. Yeah OK, 43 goals in the last 3 seasons in the NHL playing limited minutes on the 3rd and 4th lines? Seems like it never translated alright. Give me break!
  17. I totally believe he was mismanaged here. TG has his own plan and its very narrow minded IMO. Jakes only time in the top 6 were very sporadic and sometimes only lasted for a period or two. There is no doubt that he could produce in the top 6 but TG did not allow him to play there or the #1 PP at all. Numerous players were put into these positions but Jake always remained out of the picture. I don't know what he did to TG but he was in the doghouse for most of his time here. My idea of a team which is developing young players is to play them and see what they can do. TG's idea was to play a has-been, washed up vet like LE at every opportunity instead. What a joke! If Jake's biggest problem was that he showed up out of shape, then play him until he puked and I bet he would only do it only a few times after that. I watched Jake come in as a player who had speed and size and had the ability to put the puck in the net on occasion. He hit and played with aggression. What I seen happen over the years is that when he made a mistake, he was plastered to the bench for much of the rest of the game. This has happened time and time again. I get it that Jake needed to learn the defensive side of the game but he was basically relegated to the Beagle/Sutter lines for his whole tenure here. This is when we are developing our young core and LE is basically playing in the top 6 as a regular. ???? I truly think Jake is made for the playoffs too but when he is benched and only gets in the line up because of injury, I would think he does not have much ambition to work his a$$ off for "Daddy" Travis. I also believe any confidence Jake had in previous years has pretty much been played out of him, sad. Which leads me to my final thought. Unfortunately Jake will not succeed here in Vancouver because of Green. If Green remains, Jake will be gone and find success elsewhere. Which is unfortunate because he is the exact player we need come playoff time. I will never get behind a coach who thinks Lui Ericksson is a recipe for success in any stretch of the imagination, but thats for another discussion.
  18. Thank You Oldnews for your non-biased approach to this discussion. Its nice to see someone take on such an emotionally charged subject such as this and put it into perspective without the back and forth pointless bickering. Also, I learned a thing or two about history etc. , a bonus.
  19. When you peel away all of the layers of this it all boils down to basic human "values" and "ethics". Respect each other no matter who we are. Do we treat the homeless person like we do our neighbor? Many of us spend a lot of time seeing how we are different when in fact, we are much more the same more so then we are different. The ugly human traits such as "greed" ,"hate" and "selfishness" usually takes over peoples decision making and thats where the "wrong and right" come into play.
  20. I get the feeling that you have lived a life where you have not gone through very much adversity. You do realize that police are public servents who are paid to serve and protect right? They are not there to harass people and make people listen to them. You do realize that society has mental health issues, drug and alcohol issues, poverty issues and people who generally have more bad days then good days right? For you and me, yes its easy to just do what the Officer tells you, the rest of the world? Its not so cut and dry.
  21. The Cop had his gun out and pointed at him while he was still on the other side of the vehicle. He then follows him around the vehicle with his weapon pointed at him. Did he have the sense he was going to the other side of the vehicle and he was going to go in and reach for a knife he had on the floor of the vehicle? Was he a super cop or something? Did he have ESP? When he was on the other side of the vehicle tussling with him there was no imminent danger of a weapon and so no reason to draw his lethal weapon. There goes your theory out the window.
  22. You are grouping everyone in the same group as those who support this are rioters. We know from experience in this city that some people take advantage of an ooportunity under the guize that they are supporting the cause. How many of the Vancouver rioters in 2011 were actually Canuck fans? See what I am saying?
  23. It was once percieved that a "threat" actually had to be facing you with a weapon in hand in order to authorize the use of "Lethal Force". I guess this has changed or its interpreted differently now? There are many ways that an officer can get the job done but lethal force should be the last resort not the "go-to". If a suspect has his back to you, you are at the advantage because he doesn't know where you are. It is not wise to approach the suspect and put yourself in more danger. If you are perceiving danger as an officer then you must protect yourself, get behind your vehicle, wait for back up or in the very least, distance yourself from the danger area. If you are pulling out your lethal weapon and walking towards the danger, I don't think your intention is to deescalate the situation.
