The San Jose Sharks are very pleased to see that newly acquired goaltender Jacob Markstrom has developed into the young, current, and future franchise #1 that we were looking for at the start of the season.
Acquired roughly half way through the season, the Sharks were uncomfortable with the shaky performances of James Reimer and at the time him being the franchise goaltender, things had to change. Nail and myself acted quickly and made major shockwaves soon after trading away franchise forward Logan Couture but it had to be done in order to resolve the goaltending situation. When acquired, Markstrom had B level goalie ratings but just after half a season in San Jose and breaking out of his status as a youngster and now a certified NHL'er at 25 years of age, his ratings have jumped and are those comparable to 1A starting goalie stats. ...the Sharks are extremely happy to have Markstrom pan out the way we envisioned him to thus making the Couture-Markstrom deal a win. At the time there was a bit of uncertainty he wouldn't become that #1 starting goalie but all doubts aside, Jacob has done everything and has become that #1. Most pleasing of all is that Markstrom fits the criteria of our young team heading in the direction of youth and he'll be in San Jose for a long, long time.
