  1. They may be choke artists but they're my choke artists. I enjoy the team and enjoy watching Canucks hockey. I just don't expect a championship to ever happen which is fine with me. That's why I prefer players like the Sedins to stay until they retire rather than than be moved all because the fans want to believe in the chance, not guarantee, that the return would make them more competitive for the Cup. I suggest you try being a fan for another 20 years or so of a losing culture and then maybe you'll understand and see the Canucks the way I do. Youthful optimism turned to aged cynicism! Fandom is a funny thing. It doesn't have to be rational at all! Some of the most passionate fans, like many great romances, share a love-hate relationship with their team.
  2. If they were the best team they would've won the Cup! Having a goaltender that could only play well at home in the SCF but atrocious on the road is choking. Having a 2-0 series lead was practically a guarantee of a Cup since 42 of 45 teams previously with a 2-0 series lead in the Final went on to win it. The Canucks are probably the best team out the four that failed. Based on that I'd say they choked especially since they nearly blew it that first round against CHI being up 3-0. When the Kings played us the following year and took a 3-0 lead on us, they didn't let up and become complacent like our team had done. They stepped on our throats and put us out. Most teams that make the Finals are battered and injured. The '94 Canucks sure were but still managed to battle through a 3-1 deficit to force Game 7. Maybe if the Canucks, especially Luongo, hadn't blown the series against CHI and won it in 4-5 games they would've reduced the wear, tear and travel and been a healthier club when they reached the Final. The Canucks are my team but having watched them as long as I have, they truly are notorious choke artists. They are the only team I know that can tie a SCF record for most 1-0 shutouts but balance it with tying for most goals given up (8) and fastest 4 goals scored against. The Canucks make losing an art form and after 2011, I've lost any expectation or optimism of this club winning a Cup.
  3. I'm just wondering how long before CDC floods the forums with Desjardins = Best coach ever! posts because the last one on Torts was an absolutely hilarious read. That and the numerous Benning and Linden posts that start off great before succumbing to Fire Linden! and Fire Benning! Same with Bo Horvat - do we really need him or any other prospect that's being touted highly right now. I'm amazed at all the Kesler wants out talk. He hasn't said anything, quite the opposite in fact and yet everyone is speculating and assuming he hates it here and wants out. You don't like the player that's fine but as fans we should be supporting Kesler, not planning his airflight ticket out of here and suggesting what his worth is. I think if he does get traded many of you are in for a shock with what we get and rightfully so! Personally, my expectations for this team aren't high. Their shot at the Cup was 2011, they choked and now I feel we're back in the 12-17 year cycle before our next shot. Which is not a stretch considering how dominant LA, CHI, SJ, ANA and even STL are right now. These teams are mostly established and set to contend for the better part of the decade, whereas we are not until they all likely fade away and decline themselves.
  4. Cause it has nothing to do about how livable a city is. It has to do with travel and championships. Pittsburgh can win championships, Vancouver can not. Vancouver has the worst travel in the league which is why it is not an attractive market for players, coaches, etc.
  5. Well LA is making up for lost time. Two cups in 47 years in franchise history. Good for them!
  6. Works both ways too. I think AV has a better chance with Lundqvist than with Lu since I doubt he'll be as horribly inconsistent as Lu was in the 2011 SCF. I guess we'll see.
  7. I hate the 8 goals in 7 games argument as it's such a cop out for Lu supporters and doesn't tell the whole story. He was a huge problem come playoff time since you never knew which Luongo was going to show up game from game. He'd either be stellar or become the worst sieve the NHL has ever seen (1st 3 games in VAN 0.67 GAA, 0.979 SV,2 shutouts, 9 periods and 11 seconds play vs. 3 starts in BOS 8.05 GAA, 0.773 SV, approx 5.5 periods of play). That's INCONSISTENT and doesn't give your team a chance to win. Wouldn't have mattered if the Canucks had scored 22 goals in 7 games, they still would've lost with Lu's performance in BOS. Also, Thomas was stellar, give him credit. The Canucks peppered him often with shots, but unlike Lu he could keep his team in it every game which is why he has the Cup, Vezina and Conn Smythe and Lu has nothing.
  8. Agreed. Linden's next task is to get rid, uh reconnect, with them!
  9. I agree. I'm not sure what people are expecting here. Nothing is going to make us instant contenders overnight anyways. By the time we are that competitive again, the Sedins will have retired as Canucks and will have their jersey retirement ceremony.
  10. Might clog if you try to flush too much down!
  11. Probably lots. Sedins are untouchable whether you like it or not. They were drafted by the Canucks and will retire as Canucks. Besides once Linden is fired who do you think is going to replace him? The Sedins!
  12. Other way around. FLA had a terrible D when he was there first and he kept them in it game after game in the regular season. He comes to VAN and has an arguably better D in front of him and Lu became porous and inconsistent in the post season.
  13. That's why he'd fit in well here. He can go from one team of chokers to another!
  14. It's not water. It's full of fan's tears.
  15. Fire Linden! I'm just getting it in early since it will be inevitable now.
  16. I think you overestimate the appeal of this franchise. It's not easy to get the players we want to come here. I've seen this script before and think the Canucks are going back to dark days. At least the majority of the fanbase will go with it.
  17. Ridiculous to have Linden as GM. Why, so we can all start chanting fire Linden in a season's time? Darkness is coming...
  18. It's been over for quite a while guys. Don't forget Dallas and Phoenix play each other so someone is going to wind up with two points regardless and that will end it for the Canucks even if they do win their last 4 which is highly unlikely.
  19. I have to laugh at the suggestion by some that we can pull what the LA Kings did. The reason why we can't is because we are the Vancouver Canucks and complacency and choking go hand in hand. When LA took a 3-0 commanding lead against us (President Trophy winners but not the dominant ones we were the last year) they didn't let off the gas but instead stepped down hard on the Canucks throat and put us out in 5 games. The Canucks on the other hand go up 3-0 against the Blackhawks (defending Stanley Cup champions at the time though they were nowhere near the team they were that gave us problems the previous two playoffs without Byfuglien, Ladd, Versteeg, Burish, Eager and even Bolland for those 3 games and essentially backed into their playoff spot) and what did the Canucks do? They let off the gas, got complacent believing they had the series, failed to step on the Hawks throat and next thing you know we're in OT of Game 7 maximizing travel and wear and tear on the club and almost dealt the greatest collapse in sports history. So no, there is no chance the Canucks pull an LA Kings. It's more likely we miss the playoffs because that's what the Canucks are known for doing in blowing their chances.
