I agree with weaponizing our cap. If a conditional first is what it takes for a team to get out of a one year bad contract, the Nucks should be reaching out to other desperate cash strapped teams to see if they are interested The longer the contract the more it would cost. As for Loui we have the option of trading one bad contract for another which Toronto doesn't have because they have to shed salary.

[Rumour] Capitals may not qualify Andre Burakovsky
WestCoastDave replied to HerrDrFunk's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Burakovsky is a buy low candidate. He is young and the Nucks have the cap space so yes we should have some interest in him. -
( RUMOR) Canucks Trying to move up
WestCoastDave replied to Squamfan's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I hope it is Bryam they are targeting. Yeah, I have to agree you need to have both eyes open when dealing with Stevie Y. He usually win the trades he makes. -
I'm not that high on Boldy because of consistency issues. Unless someone we really like falls into our laps at 10, the area we pick is wide open and I wouldn't mind trading downward in the first round for some extra asset(s) coming back.

[Trade] Radko Gudas for Matt Niskanen
WestCoastDave replied to Podz92's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This trade could help both clubs. Philadelphia gets a veteran who could help the younger defencemen while Washington get a player three years younger. -
I agree for the most part, but if there are situations that is advantageous why not? Anyways, trading down from 10 to 17 (and getting extras in Miller and a 3rd) might not be as bad as you think because the area where the Nucks pick have more uncertainty with no draft list being the same. The 17th pick could be just as good as the 10th pick.
-
Well...the Knights don't use Miller as much. Even though he is a right side D, he has been a healthy scratch multiple times during the season so he could be expendable. As for Myers, you are looking at something like 6 x 7 yrs. with other teams competing for his services. I'm not sure I would want to go that long on his term.

Interesting proposal, but I'm not sure I would want to part ways with Stetcher, arguably our top defenceman. Another idea is to flip our 10th overall pick for Vegas's 17th pick + Colin Miller (if we need more, one of Vegas's 3 third rounders could be added). Benning did say there are players later in the first round he likes. We will be getting a top 4 right handed D the club needs and Vegas will be getting a higher pick and cap relief. Okay, you may pick apart this deal. lol

Why I are you trying to help Edmonton? I thought you are on our side. Your name is BCNeil isn't it? -

What worries me about a Eriksson/Lucic trade is what happens if the former bounce back to his previous Boston form playing with McDavid. Maybe, we should have a conditional draft pick included just in case such a scenario happen like if he perform better we get a higher or additional pick(s). -

According to CapFriendly, Loui currently has a NTC while Lucic has a NMC so in order for a trade to happen they both would need to waive those. I read somewhere after July 1st, Loui's contract has 3 x 3 years = 9 million in salary with a cap hit of 6 x 3 = 18 million. The amount of Lucic's contract is 4 x 4 years = 16 million in salary with a cap hit of 4 x 6 = 24 million. So the difference in salary is 7 million (16 - 9) and a difference of 6 million (24 - 18) in cap hit. So yeah, we would need somekind of sweetener. -

It is highly unlikely Seattle will want to pick up Lucic or Eriksson in the expansion draft. So, it is probably okay for them to waive their NMC to help facilitate a trade. -
Free agency is a minefield because players heading into their free agent year will try to inflate their numbers. So instead, I look for buy low candidates which are a lot harder to find. Using the EvolvingWild contract projections for their top 100 with a history of positive underlying numbers, I only came up with 6 names: Jake Gardiner 28 yo 7 yr. 6.9 million Jordan Eberle 29 yo 7 yr. 6.0 million Marcus Johansson 28 yo 4 yr. 4.6 million Derick Brassard 31 yo 3 yr. 4.0 million Patrick Maroon 31 yo 3 yr. 3.6 million Carl Hagelin 30 yo 3 yr. 2.4 million What is interesting is that the Nucks is rumored before to be interested in two of them (Gardiner and Johansson). Also, there is only one D in the group so the picking aren't that great. It could be Gardiner and Eberle will be looking at too much term while Johansson looks like the most attractive option. Just my opinion.

Sam Bennett by trade or offer sheet

I didn't know that since it was a big story coming from the combine at that time. Thanks for letting us know 420since1974. -
Sam Bennett by trade or offer sheet
WestCoastDave replied to JohnnyCanucks12's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
If history is any kind of guide, offer sheets rarely work. What happens is the home team will get antagonized and match the offer (so don't plan on having any productive trade talks for awhile). Since your offer is usually higher than average for that particular type of player, it will only raise the league salary. Another thing, since you are the aggressor, it gives other teams the green light to go after your restricted free agents (so plan on matching their offers). So far Bennett hasn't been special (I still remember him failing to complete a single pullup at the combine), but if you want him or other restricted free agents, it is better to go through the old fashion trade route. Just my opinion. -
Sportsnet 7 NHL teams staring into... cap hell
WestCoastDave replied to Gurn's topic in General Hockey Discussion
The D so far, but there is time for that trade to balance out. As for OJ, I'm not sold on him. Yes, we need a defenceman. However, if the Nucks pick a D with their first this year, it could free him up for a trade.
