I’d be all over this
-
Think it’s like the sun and moon kinda deal, right?
-
But what about the scenario that if PLD was available the runout was we were going to trade that pick to Montreal for PK Subban? Exciting times on CDC! Haha
-
What a troll..
-
Haven’t read whole thread so maybe thrown out by someone else but Benn for Subban might work something like that
-
Nurse was a pretty high pick dman and Klefbom was a first rounder and they just took Bouchard i wouldn’t say we’ve drafted that much more than them high in the draft difference is our entire system, where our picks are and how we develop the kids they just threw their kids to the wolves in a crappy environment
-
Well I guess that confirms: broberg seider soderstrom york harley heinola one will be a Canucks at 10. absolutley praying we don’t reach too far and we get lucky. if Chabot or McAvoy were talked about pre draft higher or actually drafted higher people would have laughed / freaked out but in hindsight they are stud defenders. Let’s hope we get a guy like that..
-
Button also says newhook is a poor skater soooo but ya Byram is best d prospect I’ve seen come out of the WHL ever IMO
-
I disagree with them being on the same level. I see you say the skating but the skating is on another level. Which puts Hughes on another level. I think hughes is a better passer as well.
-
Yup I’ve been convinced for some time. This tourney just cements it in my mind. He’s the best player in the draft and the most NHL ready. Kids an absolute stud.. Probably going to go: Kakko Hughes Byram
-
At least he played better at end of year and looks good for Sweden. Might make a trade actually possible now! but I agree hard to imagine him on team next season
-
Sorry I am at a loss for the pods love. i haven’t watched him play a game in Russia. I’ve only seen his highlights, rankings, scouting reports and his international play. i have not been impressed at all. What ovechkin features do you see from him? So far from what I’ve read and seen I’d say his absolute ceiling would be like a pitbull hossa. But I find that hard to believe. i see a third liner with second line potential as a complimentary piece. he generates chances through hard work and seems to be a decent playmaker but lacks finish and high end goal scoring touch. i just don’t seem to see what others see and I realize maybe I’ve seen less but still. All his peers in top 10 consideration have produced all year at every level and opportunity. When I look at his ceiling I don’t see it being as high as some do. And when you factor in his very legitimate KHL risk and that he’s a winger I just don’t see him being a better option than any of these forwards (no particular order): Kakko Hughes Turcotte Dach Krebs Cozens Boldy Caufield Zegras Newhook thats 10 forwards id take over pods without hesitation and that doesn’t even factor in dman. if he’s available at 10, and we take him I’ll be on-board though and believe he interviewed well and our scouts have done their homework and he is the BPA. I trust our team and their scouting process. But currently I do not see it.
-
Only way it happens is if Benn forces their hand to deal with us hard to argue hed not look awesome next to petey or bo id rather have him than PK Subban but realistically it wouldn’t be the best contract for our team. 2-4 years would be good. I believe he will rebound next year and be a 70+ pt power forward. But doubt he’ll be able to be that productive once he is 33/34-36 years old and that would be a big price tag for a body that will probably be breaking down and maybe good for 35-50 pts
-
Yea - I personally haven’t seen enough from any of the dmen other than Byram to take them over a forward that will be there at 10. but if our scouts feel the BPA is a dman at 10 I’ll trust them and be happy
-
Some boards might have Boldy higher then you think. Prepare for surprises - like last year and the year before.

Everyone show some confidence in Judd / JB and the team. fair to say if Podklozin is there at 10 whatever decision they make I will be confident with it. they are doing a great job drafting now and I believe they will make the best choice possible for the club. anyone here pulling for us to draft Podkolzin must just be going on rankings. Because on anything we have had access to watch he has not looked that great let alone better then multiple kids ranked in the top 15. That’s just off an eye test. his numbers aren’t that great and that’s statistical facts. Sure there are reasons for that, but he also hasn’t produced that well on the international stage playing against his peers. And by that well I mean to put himself in this other tier he has been put in all season by other scouts and analysts that share rankings online. And he comes with a stated KHL risk that he will not cross seas unless it’s for an NHL opportunity. This is not like a blanket anti Russian drafting concern. He comes with multiple concerns. Concerns that players who will be available at 10 do not come with. Players that have high floors and high ceilings. i think some people are not looking at this without bias and there are posts responding in extremes and stereotypes both ways. take a step back and take a look at the players full body of work for the year, the risks that come with him and compare that to other kids available. Boldy, Krebs, Newhook All three had strong seasons. All three performed well at the U18s All three drive play and creates for themselves and their linemates Boldy played on a stacked team, but was shuffled around and always produces. Krebs an unbelievable leader playing for a tire fire of JR squad and did his absolute best. Really shined at the U18s when e got to play with players of similar talent levels, finally! Newhook doubted all year for his Canada Snub, playing in Second tier jr league. But he produced at a fantastic clip, is a leader, a fantastic skater and looked fantastic at the U18. Showing he is a special player and not to discount him for playing in a second tier jr league. Expect him to be a strong college player. Bet all three will be NHL rookies in 2-3 Years. IF Podkolzin is available and we select to take him, great. That means our scouts and team watched his games in Russia and have a much better read on him then we do. Hope they have the chance to interview him as well. That will be important.
-
We should be happy, he finished the year kinda well on bo’s wing with pearson and now he’s scoring internationally and saying it’s because of our coach... boost that trade value and let’s offload him woo!
-
Yea super hard to pass on Centres with high ceilings and high IQ. Especially playoff performers. im so curious to where byram will go too. But also sad cause I’d love to see him in a Canucks sweater
-
I actually think Krebs is the closer Barzal comparison. But I’m so high on both of them
-
Not exactly fair smash. we had no chance at Kuznetsov at all. In 2010 we didn’t have a draft pick in like the first 2:3 rounds I’m pretty sure. I remember cause Tarasenko was the Russian that dropped the most that day everyone thought he was going top 5. and kucherov was hard to scout. Sure we missed by taking Jensen but we only had 1 pick before he went other teams had multiple. I’m pretty sure St Louis passed on him at least twice cause they took Rattie that year. And that’s a team not scared to take Russians evident by taking senk show before. no one talked about us not taking him either. It was more Boone Jenner and Saad people were upset about us missing on. i get what your saying but it’s kinda like Pastrnak like everyone missed. Some missed multiple times before

When it’s a player who states they aren’t open to coming to North America or unless it’s for the nhl only or they get a spot given to them it’s a concern. It’s not a fear it’s a very real risk to factor into draft considerations when making final rankings. its not just Russian players in general. Many of my favorite nhlers over the years have been Russian. And there are Russian kids who come over to North America to learn English and the North American game in Jr that never come with KHL concerns. And if they do it’s later in their careers if they aren’t good enough for the league. Examples: Svechnikov Brothers, zero KHL risk factored into either of their draft positions when you draft Swedish or Finnish kids out of their respected euro leagues you never talk about them not wanting to earn playing time and play in the AHL. They usually go there early because they can. many examples of this. I wouldnt say crawl under a bridge, you made a mistake today in using Kopitar to support your Russian statement accompanied with a crude comment. Maybe just take it easy on the Russian discussion and get back to just discussing prospects. mens worlds coming up - can’t wait to see the Hughes bros together and see how Kakko performs. this tournament is a chance for Kakko to jump to top spot in the draft.
-
Yea he really does. Just seems like a kid that is and is going to be special wherever he plays.
-
Should have read my post before this. would have read Kopitar is Slovenian and that bourdon didn’t have a bike when drafted. It was like his first week or two riding and he was in his 20s. So pre draft motorcycles weren’t a factor. your points are missing and your comment was distasteful. Just stop digging yourself in further and let’s all move on here!
