Problem with Myers is when he has to play top assignments or big minutes his quality of play drops off quite a lot -

After watching the Boston leafa series I take back my stance on not being upset if we signed gardiner. not impressed at all with his performance. if we signed him or Myers to big money term deal I’ll cry -
(Speculation) 3 way trade to land PK Suban

Sounds about right for the Canucks right.. god im scared for this off season -
GMs / scouts could get seduced by his international play, physical attributes and physical draft year resemblance to hedman. i could see a team being high on him and taking him before our pick. Would just give us another high end forward option.

Man so much wrong with this line of thinking in today’s day an age. “Nobody minds having Petey around”.. “don’t want another group of soft spoken swedes leading the way”... This just upsets me reading, just ridiculous. Like nobuddy minds having Pettersson that’s so stupid... we are lucky as hell to have him and to have gotten him at 5th overall. He’s the best most exciting player we have had since Bure. Oh wait he wasn’t Canadian either. You don’t deliver your message clearly cause guess what, Pettersson is going to be a big leader for our group both statistically and in the locker room for a very long time. And referring to that old quote of Benning’s saying Canadian heart with euro skill, that was quite awhile ago, and he was referring to old stereotypes and also acknowledging that its not exactly like that anymore. And if he did and if that is why they picked Virtanen over Nylander, Ehlers and McCann over Pastrnak, clearly that was a mistake and proves that line of thinking is clearly and horribly wrong. Pastrnak is also a big time performer and looks fantastic in playoff hockey. you need a Blend of talent, hard work, team chemistry, timely goal tending, solid coaching and luck to win a cup not just North American (at least you have broadened it from just Canadian) players. so how did Washington win last year with 2 Russians, a Swede and an American leading the charge for them offensively? Kuznetsov and Ovie were the top 2 playoff MVP choices too.. Both Russian you don’t build teams By nationality. Teams are built with great diversity in nationality, playing style, heights, weights, personalities, personal interests, skill levels and blends of those skills. you also want a dynamic mix of people as this leads to greater creativity. Give you a business example, when Steve Jobs left Apple and worked at Pixar he made a big renovation to the building to increase / force staff interaction. Putting all the washrooms in one centeal area so that it would force workers of different departments to be mixed together and to get people talking that wouldn’t see each other from different departments otherwise. This facilitated innovation and creativity. You take a team of players all from the same place and similar history, interests etc I would bet you that a team with a mix of backgrounds interests will create a more dynamic creative environment.

Not sure if this is a racial bias or your just quite the nationalist. but that’s not how you draft either way. If they take newhook it would be because they think he’s the bpa. one of the best crops of draft eligible American born players I think ever. We’d be lucky to have one. And if we take an American player it will be the bpa on our list. Once they put on the jersey they become one of us and Part of the community. It really doesn’t matter where they are from.
-
As much as I would have agreed to that earlier in the year. but now I really don’t think the gap between say: Dach and Cozens vs. the US National Program Players and Krebs Is there anymore. Can argue rankings for all of them now in any given order.
-
It’s incredibly difficult to rank this years crop. but luckily there’s not really any options that look bad at 10!
-
I don’t know I agree but at the same time Anaheim could take Soderstrom. And Edmonton could take Broberg
-
Your auto corrected saved lavoie as lavoi? No no way lavoie goes top 10, I’d bet on it and probably goes 13-20 range maybe 12 if a team is super high on him. Just canteank him over clearly better younger players imo. well this U18s is solidifying how much I like both Krebs and Boldy but if Dach is there we take him without hesitation, Podkolzin at 10 sounds like a steal to me, and Zegras I’m a fan but if our guys passed on him for someone else I’d trust their judgement as they have been on point with scouting US players. Newhook id be fine with, I see the raw potential but just depends who we’d be taking him over. Soderstrom I’m not sold he’ll be the bpa at 10 but haven’t watched him enough. Caufields putting on a show - he looks absolutely ridiculous right now. He’s playing with very talented players but his skill level is right there with him and wow is he a finisher. He’s going to be a wild card on draft day so curious to see where he goes and how high.
-
Yea 10s not a bad slot to be in guaranteed a good player. Just hope they snag the BPA when we look back 3-5 years later cause it looks really tough to rank this crop. yeadont know enough about the dmen and it’s so hard to judge them just from these tournaments. Broberg seems to showcase well in tournaments with same age peers, whereas heinola and soderstrom excelled this season against men in pro leagues and haven’t really showed as strong so far in this u18. Haven’t watched them enough to rank. But these forwards just look so great with higher probability of succefully translating to the NHL. im hoping we take a forward at 10 and then the bpa for our second pick is a dman like woo last year that would be an ideal scenario for us I think.
-
I can’t see Dach or Cozens falling too far. Especially with their size and year long performances. Especially dachs playoffs. but you never know! Podkolzin falling i think makes sense for lots of reasons. Boldy Krebs Turcotte and Caufield sure aren’t hurting their stock right now in this tournament. And Newhook is probably bumping himself up a spot or two on some lists. Want to see more of broberg and soderstrom but I’m not seeing enough to take them over one of these high ceiling forwards. Zegras ranking might get hurt the most by missing these games, just by the others impressing and movingup rankings.
-
Have to say with this u18 both caufield and Boldy might not even be available at 10... they are really showcasing themselves very well... This tournament is for sure going to change scouts / teams final rankings. Too bad zegras isn’t playing hope he’s able to come back for the final games.

Well in all fairness no one thought Barzal was going to either that’s why he wasn’t drafted top 5/10. i personally think Barzal is a good comparison to newhook
-
If we take him at 10 I won’t be upset at all. he has one of the biggest ceilings in the draft and his skating, puck skills, iq all looks fantastic. I wonder how he would play on a wing though, I’m sure he’d be a good fit on the left flank. People compare jost but I don’t think they were the same caliber playerdraft year, and I feel Colorado rushed him and he should have played another year at least in college. Looking at Makar though is motivating too because they kind of have similarities. Same quality of league, ridiculous video game numbers and both outstanding skaters. think newhook 1-2 years of college and then he’d be NHL ready and a great addition to the squad.
-
Well Barzal is kind of emerged as that player? I do agree overall team depth and team play is important though and yes vegas last year and then this year are great examples!
-
Oh really, I though debrincats skating draft year was considerably better then caufields. my concerns for Caufield are primarily his size of course, but next is the way he plays. He doesn’t play like an undersized forward. He’s not ridiculously elusive like Johnny hockey and he goes into dirty areas, or slides through traffic areas to get to the soft spots where he gets his shots off. I just think he’ll have to learn ways to avoid contact, because there are gonna be some big fellas looking to crush him. Also i feel his skating is closer to a Weakness rather than closer to a strength. And for a player his size to be successful you would expect strong edge work at least. he can improve all these things of course but these are the parts of his game I think needs the most work.
-
Do you like Caufields skating?
-
If they have a nice little run and all enjoy what’s happening there and like the city and playing for Trotz ya could see that too. crazy never thought they’d have such a great season..
-
Interesting take on Boldy because a lot of scouts say and think he has one of the most nhl transferable skill sets in the draft.

[Speculation] Canucks Likely to push for Gardiner on July 1st
R3aL replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yea well I think he’s a better player then your giving him credit for because he does make some mistakes that look visually awful. Im not saying I’m advocating for his signing but I do think he’s a better player then Hutton, And a better UFA option then Myers. I do also think a healthy Tanev would be an ideal partner for Gardiner too. Juolevi wont be blocked immediately as he’s going to doubtfully be ready for nhl next season. And maybe they are thinking we’d lose Gardiner to Seattle I don’t know. I totally understand where you are coming from though Because he does turnover the puck lots and I don’t want to overpay for any free agent anyways. Karlsson or Panarin are the only ones I would. But karlsson is scary cause of injuries and the Vancouver injury factor on top of that. im honestly more worried then excited for this off season lol -

Gardiner is a lot better then people think here. His numbers are very good. The he problem is he makes mistakes that look bad and can cost a goal. But he makes many more good plays then bad and is a very effective puck mover. I would take a top end dean that makes a pouliot like blunder once in a while that looks horrible over a guy who has no upside and can’t get the puck out of his end quickly and effectively. If if we sign both Edler and Gardiner I would expect either Hughes to play right side or Hutton to be traded. Edler-Hughes Gardiner-Tanev Hutton-Stecher or Edler-Stecher Gardiner-Tanev Hughes-Schenn Having both Gardiner and Hughes on our backend increases their offensive ability big time and will help our breakout and getting pucks to our forwards quick no debate about it. i would just be very concerned with term and $ amount. Also next year when Juolevi is ready who does he displace? Be interesting to see what they do. And what kind of trades will happen. But no I’d not be surprised if we signed Gardiner and it wouldn’t be the worst signing. Him and Tanev (when healthy) would be a very effective pairing imo. Anyone saying sign Myers needs to watch him play. He struggled so much this year playing top minutes, he’s just not a good dman IMO and I’d be upset f we signed him. -
He’s a round 3-5 kinda guy right? Never seen him play seems like a nice little project to take in later rounds knowing us they’ve scouted him heavy
-
I think this should be a big factor for free agent signings even more so
