Hodgson isn’t and hasn’t been in the league primarly because of a crazy genetic disorder and he struggled as well with being a 2Way Centre though, not primarly because of his skating. yea we just aren’t gonna get anywhere, we see things different and use words differently. respect your opinion/view and thanks for the discussion!
-
We just view the game differently, not sure if you play it have ever played hockey either but I’ll say it again skating speed is not everything. It is important, but I wouldn’t weight it heavier then hockey iq. thinking fast, reading plays fast, anticipating linemates and opponents actions and positioning naturally or ahead of time are all things a player with high hockey Iq will do. Speed and puck skills allows a player like this execute on their IQ. so to me a player with above average speed and very highhockey IQ will be an overall better player then someone who’s extremely fast with decent IQ, like a a Jake Virtanen. Kid has all the physical tools probably The fastest skater on the team too but his hockey IQ is not on the same level of a hughes Boeser Petey and it’s very obvious. I can’t think of a single game where the line of whoever-Petey-Boeser looked slow or not dynamic as well. i won’t keep messaging about it cause I don’t think I’ll convince you but was worth a try!
-
Did you read my post even? I never said Boeser so I’m not sure why the need for your first paragraph? I agreee and said he’s not a burner but he’s not slow. as for Petey yea we were surprised but his time was solid.. he’s a fast skater and he’s a rookie. He’s going to get faster too. to say Petey isn’t a fast skater is crazy to me sorry mate can’t agree with that all. He pulled away from guys all year. Both of our top 6 Centres do not have any issues with speed. now if you value raw skating speed over elite IQ we will not see eye to eye on this. And we just have different views on the game in general then. Because I would take a decent skater with elite IQ over a skater with elite speed and decent IQ anyday of the week.

Haha oh I understand he’s your favorite!! I’m a little indifferent because I really like Krebs and Zegras so feel no matter who we take at 10 I’m probbaly going to like them. Just hope they pick the one who will turn out to be the best haha. but I agree Boldy if he becomes what he can would be the perfect stylistic fit for either line in our top 6! ans don’t worry whoever Edmonton picks they’ll screw them up

Afraid of what??

Hmm you know Petey is a pretty fast skater right? Like he fit right in at the nhl all star speed contest. Did he look slow to you this season? Boeser isnt a burner but speed is not an issue, and IQ makes up for speed. you have a line with all three linemates having high hockey IQ then you have three guys who read / anticipate and act on plays much quicker than just fast players. Thinking the game fast and having the skill to execute on it is more important.

On all Mock Drafts? There are lots of mocks with zegras going before Boldy? And in most drafts they are very close to one another in rankings. i agree about groupings for us trying to rank, this is like last year it was really hard to rank guys. This years even even more difficult with so many wild cards: Podkolzin - Russian factor and league played in caufield - size newhook - league played in, camp Canada cut for lack of compete kaliyev - one dimensional and a passenger broberg - hlinka then lack luster regular season Soderstrom - how high is the ceiling? seider - know nothing york - size harley - sometimes forget he’s a defencemen i find these guys above very hard to rank.

Yeaaa I’m not trashing the program or the history of BC I’m just wondering what happened with Wahlstrom there. Maybe it was just not the right fit for him. And I hope there’s nothing weird going on there behind closed doors. Cause he’s not going back and word was he wanted to exit very early in the season but played it out. So maybe it was an isolated case. Im biased because going into the draft Wahlstrom was one of my favorite forwards and I still think he will succeed. We will see how he does next year! Yeaaa exactly will be good to see! Im expecting Krebs to be a monster though. He will get decent linemates, massive upgrade over his current squad and he’ll get to play against his peers. The dmen I’m curious to see as well!
-
Yea hard to deny his style and ceiling would look good with them or flanking Bo
-
I don’t think so, I think Wahlstrom is a good prospect still. He looked good at world jrs to me and not out of place in the AHL. He quit the college program because it wasn’t a fit, is numbers weren’t horrible just not great. And I’m guessing he had issues with coaching or staff there or just maybe the teams system. Regardless i am concerned about BC. Spencer Knight is looking really good. ya me too! For Newhook, I want to watch him and Krebs closest at U18. I hope he doesn’t get cut, he hopefully learned from last camp and is coming in after a beast year very confident and ready to compete. if he looks on the same level as Krebs and Cozens it plays stronger then him it’s not out of the question to think we’d take him at 10. His skating is top notch as well. Can’t wait to see what Krebs does and good to see he’s captain. Gives them a good opportunity to showcase themselves when prospects like Lavoie and Dach are having solid post boosting their draft stock late.

My concern about Boldy is Boston College. Wahlstrom really struggled there this year, well maybe didn’t struggle but his year was lackluster. looking at how farabee excelled at Boston Uni makes me wonder was it the program or was it personal for Wahlstrom. but they do have a good group of rookies coming in, including Newhook and Goalie Knight. it would suck to draft Boldy at 10 and Newhook goes at like 12 or something and if he directly outperforms Boldy..

I’d be open to Eberle if we could get him on a fair deal. Say we draft Boldy at 10 and get Eberle this summer. In 1-2 years it would be a pretty great top 9: Boldy-Petey-Boeser Pearson-Horvat-Eberle Virtanen-Gaudette-Lind Panarin id honestly love though but really doubt he’d come here even if we are on his short list I bet we are at the end of that list and it would take the most money. And now with the Rangers getting Kakko/Hughes I bet they will go in on Panarin.
-
Never seen him play or watched the German league so have no read on the kid at all. if we took him I’d trust our scouts, especially if it was over a player like Boldy. Cause I’m sure our scouts have a solid ranking on the US players.
-
Broberg hockey IQ? First time I’ve read that. Have you watched him play any Swedish games jc? I haven’t
-
I would just add Zegras. we should get one of Zegras, Krebs, Boldy, Soderstrom id be happy with any of them tbh. lets just hope whoever we pick turns out better than who Chicago picks at 3. that would be a big win!
-
Tbh Podkolzin could drop, big time Russia factor for him I don’t know it’ll be like last years draft lots of surprises and teams lower will get their guys!
-
Selanne’s ears are burning. time to break the canucks 10th overall curse: Bourdon/Hodgson we are going to get a solid player I’m not worried. More upset about Chicago and NJ.
-
Multiple 1sts on both teams guys a magnet I want to sign him next summer not just to play with Petey or horvat but to win a lotto for once
-
Yea I was getting confused there. like every team builds there own scouting list and takes their best player available on a list. Its hard ranking 18 year olds anyways lol especially when they play all over the world in different leagues and lots never get to play against each other
-
Kaliyev, Caufield and Newhook all three are home run swing kind of guys. Kaliyev: defensive commitment and play without the puck while not in the offensive zone needs work Caufield: Size and Playing style will need adjusting because he will get crushed or injured lots as he doesn’t shy away from contact or going into the dirty areas. Normally this would be good for a player but a player of his size in the NHL playing bigger then he is can be scary. Has to watch tape on gaudreau and DeBrincat atthe NHL and adjust according I think. Newhook: second tier jr league, Canada camp questioning his compete level concerned me when in a camp of peers i like all three of them, especially Kaliyev but with all that potentially rewarding upside of the them comes with considerable risk.

Man I’m a huge byram fan but can’t take him over Hughes or Kakko mate you just can’t.
-
But if he was BPA on our teams draft list they would have taken him? So he wasn’t the BPA to our team at the draft table. In hindsight currently he was actually the BPA. that could still change down the road and in a redraft I’m sure the Oilers take him. maybe we are just misunderstanding one another haha
-
Sure we know that now but at the time that wasn’t the concensus and clearly they made a mistake wth their rankings.
-
Hey I’m not one to poop on dreams, I’m certainly a dreamer as well! Haha
