(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller

I don’t know if I’m reading your message with the wrong tone or something but it reads funny to me. you asked Why are people even discussing a potential JT trade. i answered i think It’s an extremely valid discussion. JT is 29 and he’s starting a 7 Year extension Next Season. 29-36 years old. And once the NTC that cap hit and contract won’t be easily moved. Management clearly prioritized him over Horvat and he’s had a tough year on and off the ice. My player evaluation of JT are all things that can be improved though. His emotional intelligence and how channeling his comp drive and emotions better into improving his on ice play and how it impacts his teammates and the optics of it is def something that can improve imo. Is he best at C? Or as a winger? I’m not sure. Right now I think Winger but he’s going to be playing C for the foreseeable future with Horvat gone, so we will see. I do think Tocchet, a tighter system with clear roles / systems and tighter shifts will all bring the best out of JT. I don’t think I said he’s completely unhinged did I?. But he’s had many visible outbursts of negative emotion that have shown a lack of control to me and not improved or helped anything performance wise for himself or teammates. I love that he cares, and I love his passion but I want to see growth and I want him to learn to pour that passion into his play better. This is a very fair critique and one his teammates and the coaching staff I confidently think agree with. Tocchet has talked about it too and thinks he will help him with that. Last year was the prime time to trade him I agree completely. The offer was tremendous from the rangers and still management didn’t think it was enough. That and resigning Horvat for less potentially could have been the better option. But we are where we are now and I like the NYI trade package we got for Bo. Bo and Jt will be compared directly for the next 7 years as direct comparable since management chose JT over Bo. when it comes to dealing with market pressure and playoff performance and emotional intelligence. Bo was much better than JT. JT had quotes where he felt like all we were doing was playing game 7s, which drew critism like is that how he’s going to play in game 7s or down the stretch in the playoff hunt for us!? Fair or not it opened questions. Can JT shut the market noise out and play his best? Bo could. Bo has elevated in the bubble, and in a contract year during extremely turbulent times while always answering the hard questions. He was also a playoff MVP in his draft year showing - track record he does have another gear come playoff time to me. management has also been quoted to say they may look at trading players they didn’t plan to at the start of the year. To me that meant maybe demko or miller. and to me that didn’t mean because they aren’t good players. But because they are good players, who can be moved for something of value, who’s prime years under contracts could not align with our new forecasted competitive window. I can believe JT is a good player on a reasonably fair contract (market comparable) with a rising cap but be open to trading him if we got a good offer before his NTC kicked in because I have valid concerns about how his game will age and align with our competitive window. You don’t have to agree with my opinion or concerns about him as a player but the opportunity to move him for a good return is now before the NTC starts and while they aren’t shopping him around they most certainly will listen to offers. This is why potential trade discussion here is valid and what things would and could look like if we did. i love JT on our Pp. And I like the idea of having him on the wing with a young star C. say in a world we drafted a Bedard or Fantili. Miller-Bedard/Fantili-Mikehyev could be a very exciting combo. i answered your question, as you did ask a question while kind of shutting down people discussing the possibility of a JT trade and shared some context to why it’s valid and how I feel about it. im okay with keeping JT and I’m okay with trading him if we have a solid offer on the table for him. I can’t truly know what would be better for the team long term either way at this point. So it’s not really fair of you to say I’m talking out two sides of my mouth because I’m okay with keeping him and I’m okay with trading him for the right return and feeling trade discussion is completely valid. As for OEL I agree whole heartedly. I’m not sure if his foot injury has impacted him far more than we know by limiting his off-season training and decreasing his mobility even further this year but his puck moving and mental plays / decision making with the puck has also been atrocious or at least incredibly inconsistent. I don’t even know if a playoff team would want him on their bottom pairing. a buy out could be the only way. Its a pretty brutal buyout though. rebuilding our defence will be very difficult with the OEL situation. And could Go many ways and take longer than we would like. Im hoping they pull some very creative moves and impress us all. Starting with the signing of free prospect livingstone. -

I think the drama is gone. it’s on to Philly and other cap strapped middling teams pushing for the playoffs. or Calgary and Sutter etc We’ve got good energy going again it feels like to me we are more aligned organizationally. We are embracing the tank. Everyone is on the same page. I’m into what’s happening now -

I just cant imagine him not signing here. We have the need, the best opportunity and path to a top 4 role with potential to play with a super star and some really great d coaches for mentors that will align perfectly with his path. oh ya and the BC connection. this feels like a slam dunk signing and look forward to it being announced. im not sure if he’s be ready to play tough matchups with Hughes but who knows maybe he actually is. I thought he’d need a year in abby then a year on the bottom pairing but we will see first where he signs then how he shows / fits in. really hope we get him -

This I’m not so sure about. i think it’s a valid discussion until his NTC officially kicks in and other teams inquire about him. The timeline of his deal might not align well with our realistic next competitive window. When we get to the playoffs he could be past his prime, and his body deteriorated. im also unsure if he’s emotionally stable enough or ready to shine on the pressure cooker that is Vancouver Playoff Hockey. Do I thinks he’s capable of being that awesome edgy impact playoff forward and leader for sure. Am I fully confident in his ability to deliver that or that we will have the opportunity to see it when he’s capable of providing it. I am not. so im stying open to exploring what we could get in return for him now before the big money / term kicks in. -
This would be an interesting draft. Not big on Star Lord Starbk. Haven't seen him play aa lot but when I have hes looked super slow to me. Maybe I saw a bad game though. That first round result wouldn't be sexy or flashy but if Reinbacher was a Trouba/Dobson cross with close to Seider timeline and impact that would justify a pick over Smith/Benson/Moore but might be tough for a large portion of the fanbase to accept in the moment. Nate also not a sexy pick. But I really like him a lot. If we took him at 14 I wouldn't be upset at all. I like everything about his game and think it will translate. Seems like a character kid. Hitting on both of these picks a middle 6 RHC and a top 4 RHD tithe both bring intangibles our team needs, and really any winning team needs. It would be a result that would take some patience but could pay off big. Also would be stoked if we grabbed Asplund that late.
-
Well I tell you this I will keep an incredibly open mind with him. And I like your view of him a lot. Petey/Dvorsky/Raty would be an interesting C mix.
-
Yes exactly. I think we still woulda lost a lot with Demko. But 3-4 really isa possibility. But our schedule is very easy and teams could take us lightly. Getting one of those C would really help us so much Bedard/Fantili/Carlsson
-
I dont think there's a world where willander makes it to the 3rd round. But you never know. Ya I know like I really want the entire top 6... I also wants ASP, Dragicevac and Reinbacher... Oh ya And Moorre and Barlow... Oh ya and But, and and and haha Why we need MORE PICKS! MORE!

especially with the sedins involved

It would be amazing if we could find a LHD with a name like Orville and have the D pairing of: Orville-Reinbacher that would really pack some pop … okay I’m done for the day
-
Yaaa ive just only seen Reinbacher play a few games too like dvorsky so it’s tough for me to know for sure. and 100% we will see some movement especially with the dmen in the rankings from now till draft day ya seider was a big one thought he’d been available around our pick range for sure Detroit surprised me. Hughes-Seider would have been glorious
