  1. I remember posting it was down to OJ, PLD and Tkachuk with Chychurn as he dark horse. I wanted PLD. Could you imagine the CDC outrage if we took him and have Tkachuk doing so well... EW
  2. Agree with Columbus, both they and Minny have been really good this year. It would be a good model for JB to watch. We are definitely not close to what they have, but in all honesty they weren't really close until this year either. It built up over a number of seasons and now it is paying off. EW
  3. Chars is a good 'fingers crossed' ceiling for Trymakin, that would be amazing. Juolevi's game doesn't remind me of Doughty, but I get where you are coming from.
  4. 5th, We may disagree but we are both fans. Your tend to compare our prospects with others, not long after their drafted. It may be a trigger for posters like myself. I dont think its constructive to compare picks before a certain amount of time has passed, roughly 5 years. That allows for different development paths, growth rates and different organizational needs. We don't need to butt heads, I would much rather talk to you about the latest interview Jake had in Utica, talking about how much he is learning from his linemates on how to prepare and approach the pro game. To me, it is a positive bit of news, and offers some insight to how Jake and coach Green are approaching his time in Utica. As this organization seems to want to do, they will make everyone a responsible two way player, or you will never see time on the big club. It it is a sound strategy when you are not going to be getting 1st OA picks. Barring pulling a Jets from last year and winning the lotto, we at best will be in the 7-12 range for a pick. OK, good players to had there, but currently no expected game breakers. Enter Jake, who has attibutes that that can make him a good two way player, so does literally every player JB is targeting. Stylistically JB is losing entertainment value, but it may pay great dividends, especially considering our strengths in prospects in goal and defence. We only need one or two scoring wingers to be really effective in a defence first system. OJ fits prefectly with that model. His being drafted addresses a lot of gaps with our current d corps. What is really lacking is a good transition game, OJ's strength and all we have on the big club is Stecher Doing that. If JB builds a rough and ready team that can role 4 lines with solid up and down goal scoring ability, with a solid defence and great goaltending, welcome to the Minnesota Wild of this year. It may not be the favoured method to win a cup, but both Boston and LA won with a similar team model. It's also the path available. Jake fits in with that plan, if he can be rebuilt in Utica. Yes his progression is disappointing at face value, but the saga isn't over yet. EW sorry talking more about Jake in a OJ thread. Forgot where I was.
  5. This is why you are not taken seriously by many posters. Instead of meat and potatoes, you should rename yourself capt hindsight. Horvat is good and will be great, I am glad we have him. But not one poster on this forum would hesitate to trade him for McJesus straight up. Bitch and whine is what you do, we should have picked this guy... wah wah. Offer something other than that and I will listen.
  6. Sounds a bit like alternative facts Alfstonker. A character response would to take a mulligan and move on. When you are as wrong admit it and move on. It builds character... see what I did there Psychology is an envolving science/medium. Empathy and Character are different things. Not entirely separate, but different. They both are nurtured, but to truly be empathetic requires a bit of nature first. Character is an aqquired trait, as is learning right from wrong. EW
  7. Alfstonker, Subban is a 4th round pick who is just into his second pro season. He is a midget and was drafted as a long shot and will always remain a long shot. Cassels is also a long shot in his second year pro. These guys were not rushed into the NHL at the age of 18/19. All drafted players have it all figured out after living life as entitled high school athletes. If they haven't learned it before the draft, we'll admit our failure and move on. As for character, dude seriously? Are you for real, character is an inherited trait?????? WTF are you talking about. Character is about the most taught thing there is, yes some nature can help, but character is a nutured trait. Character is learned, thru experience and adversity. That's how you 'build character'. Building character is how it is acquired. Don't know if you have ever heard of that method, it's quite well know. I guess you had life all figured out at 19/20 or in your case, since you were born into this world. Since you believe that character is inherited. You never had to learn how to deal with adversity and disappointment and how to overcome mistakes, to improve yourself thru hard work and self discipline. Man your parents never had to do anything but contribute some DNA and then make sure you had food shelter and clothing. You took care of all the rest yourself. No need for teaching, mentoring or coaching. I usually respect your posts, even when we don't agree, but your above statement is ridiculous. End rant/ EW
  8. I am on the Stadt bandwagon!! He fits our needs and may end up being one of the better players drafted. If we don't get him, using the pick to solidify our defence with a sliding Liljegren or a massive Foote would also be fine by me.
  9. Great response. The House (best nick name prior to Honey Badger) always left us wanting so much more. There were brief moments when an opposition player would piss Sandlack off and he would be absolutely dominant, for a period, maybe a game or even a few, then he would go back to being Taylor Pyatt. Jake has been a let down so far. It is frustrating, rather was with him on the Nucks roster when he hadn't earned it. I see the same inconsistency with Jakes game that ended Sandlacks career, but for different reasons. Sandlack was a 'Ferdinand the Bull' character, he came that way, and teams learned not to piss him off. Jake is learning how to have character, something that comes from adversity, which he is getting a lot these days. If he can put it together, he will be a dominant player that can change the game thru physical strength, not skill. That is a tatalizing ability for a team to draft. These big young players often have bad habits, lazy training and selfish on ice play. Because they don't have to work as hard as their piers in Jr to be successful, that makes them risky picks. If Jake buys into what Green is selling, we have a player in the making. He has tools, everyone seems to agree on that, but his tool box is questionable. Green can make him a tool box. JB can draft a center who can think the game and uses Jakes abilities as a weapon. Jake can be a player for the Canucks. He needs to find his confidence and learn to play hungry, that AHL paycheque will do a lot to help with the later and let's hope his confidence is packed somewhere with his 'stuff' he brought with him from Vancouver. EW
  10. There is a real crew of posters that can tell the future with such certainty They should post their lotto numbers before every draw, they must be rich from their uncanny ability to see things that have not transpired yet. The hindsight is especially useful. If only we could also travel back into the past and change all of our draft picks after a year post draft.... we could have drafted Nick over Bo... wait... isn't that what those same posters wanted then? EW
  11. I, for one, will never accuse you of being reasonable 5th. You have been consistant, without a doubt. Yes, when Jake starts to show he was worth the pick, you will be remembered for all the negativity. Just like you will remember those of us that want time before declaring a pick a failure if you end up being right. Joulevi is another pick you didn't like and have been slagging, mind you now that the WJC is over, that has quieted down. If you were around when the Nick vs Bo talk was on, I am confident what side you would have taken early. Had you been open open to the idea that some players are projects that need some seasoning, then we would not be at odds. Looking back at how Naslund struggled early, Bert struggled early, the twins struggled early etc.. it seems that our club has a history with great players taking a few years to adjust to the NHL. Bure,Linden and Bo were exceptions. Were we disagree is about one element. Time, really patience, and a lack of it. We are both fans, I have been one since 1982. Jake could be the next Sandlack, sure, but he could also be the first legit PF this club has drafted since we gave up on Neely. Since we are not directly involved with his development and the draft is said and done, I cannot find a reason to whine daily that we should have drafted another player. Nor can I disagree with the team for taking Jake based on the pre draft reports. It was a reasonable choice the day it happened. EW
  12. Connor is underbaked, he needed more time in the NCAA before jumping to the NHL. He is a small player that would have to play lights out every night to be effective in the NHL. Fitness, size and stamina makes a big big difference. He racked up alot of points in the one of the easier NCAA conferences and has to be one of these rare players that can make a team as a top six out of the gate or be a career AHLer. The main reason the smaller players tend to make it is when the team that drafts them is in a rebuild. Connor has to beat out players like Petan and Elhers to take a spot for a smaller dynamic player. In another year or two or two he might start making noise. Either way the CDC would have declared him a bust already. EW
  13. James B, Just wondering what scouting reports had Juolevi at a 4/5 defender. Everything I read prior to the draft was at minimum he was projected to be a solid top 4 defender, likely end up as a top 2 player in a similar mode as Plaveski in SJ. Outside chance at becoming a legit #1 one guy. Of course these are projections, but wanted to see if I had missed a scouting assessment. Adam Gaudette looks to be a great pick, JB has a talent of finding guys in later rounds. This might be his strongest asset for the team, so far as he gets solid players in the top two rounds more than not. EW
  14. Oh Guntrix, NS had a gym teacher become premier, no joke and now we have a lawnmower mechanic as premier, again no joke. It about as valid as your Trudeau quip, but funny.
  15. You must be a riot at parties. Always there with a positive take on something that adds to the happy vibe.
  16. If we make the playoffs and Utica doesn't, sure. Of not Utica. IMO
  17. Its so bloody excessive. It's like Jake screwed half the CDC's girlfriends in high school or something. It's personnel with these posters. Takes away from being a fan and being able to talk hockey on the forum. EW
  18. 5th, Jake did get 45 goals in his draft year, so he must have done right offensively. Want point out that Horvat also skated a few times with McDavid at a WJC and didn't produce well... I do hope that he changes his game, but you went way past the mark if you are trying to sound anywhere near objective about a player. EW
  19. Zalwaski could be bumped to make room for Jake. I have a feeling that Green is carrying on a program for Jake started in Vancouver. JB, TL, player development, trainers, WD and the staff in Utica have a plan for Jake. His current role is a product of that plan. Not sure of the method, but this club loves its two way play. I would rather see him on the top 2 lines and on the PP, but believe that will come with time IMO. Jake's natural skating and size made hockey easy for him, likely too easy. The last two years have been a big come down to earth moment for the guy, hockey isn't easy anymore. Now he has to work for it. Fingers crossed that the 'plan comes together' and Canucks Player development has actually turned the corner and turning draft picks into NHL players. EW
  20. Your a beauty alright. How did you know I was high;) Jk. Lol.
  21. 5th. I am sorry to learn we are from the same town. Glad I live on the other side of the country sometimes... Again, I wasn't talking to you, and really shouldn't now. 'Argue with a fool and people won't know the difference.' Words to live by. You obviously don't get irony, it's like sarcasm, but subtle. My post was ironic, not meant to be the defining defense of Jake. Just pointing out that Bo received a similar amount of vitriol and hate from posters like yourself and he worked out just fine. Also find it amusing that posters like yourself were already starting to hate on OJ in a similar fashion. By the way, you aren't just 'concerned' about Jake, which is reasonable, but are one the biggest haters on this forum. EW
  22. Ah Head, always there with the witty remark. Fast moving up the troll rankings.
  23. Toews, I didn't say Horvat and Virtannen were similar, just the CDC hate factory treated them the same for the first few years. Completely different players, no problem. Bo is a leader, Jake isn't. Agree. Did a bunch of posters scream and spew hate towards Bo, saying we 'shud hav draft'd Nick!!' Yes. Go back to Bo's last year in Junior and Nick was already in the NHL, it sounds very similar to the Jake hate parade. Heck, Bo's first NHL season was treated about the same, and don't go looking at Bo's AHL stats, it will confirm that he will only ever amount to a 4th line center at best. Really want to freak out, look at his WJC stats, people claimed that he single handily lost the tourney for Canada, what a failure... Ring any bells for you, where have you heard that type of talk on the CDC in the past few years? Bo is a clearly smarter player, natural leader, while Jake was drafted more because of his size and physical abilities. Bo has been able to overcome his weaknesses and now is going to the Allstar game at 22. But now Jake and even OJ are failures because other players have had some earlier success in the NHL. Fire JB, trade them for a bag of pucks. They will never improve, learn or adapt. The 19 and 20 y/o kids are finished, no need to wait or look further. They said that about Bo, the twins, Naslund, Bert etc etc. See a pattern? EW
