  1. Actually I would say he had false character. LOL. I've seen guys like that all the time. Act pious and good, but have alterior motives. The signs where there. He refused to go to the OHL team that drafted him.... Had issues with the coach of one of the best teams in the NHL, demanded ice time over a Olympian and Selkie winning center etc etc etc. Made a fool of himself by ordering milk while out with the guys, according to KB3. He also angled for a contract that he seriously failed to live up too and was out of professional hockey at the age of 24 or so. Really, Cody was about Cody. That's not a leader. That's not character. IMO.
  2. Thought is was 2016 or 2017. My bad. They are tops in the league. Can't give away a weaker second than 62nd.
  3. That is true, but give it one more year, two max and you will see the depth of the prospect rise considerably. At the end of the 2014 season our defense was Hamhuis, Edler, Bieska, Garrison, Tanev and Stanton. Alberts career was ended and Yann Sauve and Frank Corrado were our top defensive prospects. That was two seasons and half seasons ago. Hamhuis, Bieska and Garrison were getting past their prime, Edler too, prematurely. Tanev was the only young defender of promise. Oh Eddie Lack was our Starter and Markstrom was a huge question mark. Now we have Edler, Tanev, Hutton, Gudbranson, Sbisa, Stecher and Trymakin. We have Juolevi, Brisbiois Subban and Pedan etc in the pipeline. That is a defence with the average age of 24 ish. Edler is the only guy over thirty. Tanev is 27 and all the rest are 25 or younger. In two years a lot has happened, it's not sexy or exciting. In a year or two, that defence will make things very tough on the likes of Johnny hockey and McDavid. JB stated a few times, he is building from the net out. Markstrom 25, can play, Demko is the next great white hope and Gartieg can back him up in a few years. Check. Defence, Check. He has also good forwards in the mix, Boeser Gaudette and Lockwood are all in college or we would be seeing them competing for spots on our roster in the AHL. Forwards are next. EW
  4. JB will take the who he thinks is BPA no matter what. At least in the top rounds. If we take Liljegren, right on. As long as there is no off the board pick in the top 5-10.
  5. The canucks could do that and offer a sweetheart clause if Rodin gets a better legit offer from another club. The Canucks would like to counter if a better offer comes in. If it is between Vegas and the Nucks, I think he would stay, but the on the open market, another team like Chi could prove to be too good to pass up, no matter the money.
  6. Patrick will fall this year, hopefully to us! If not Patrick I really like Mittlestad. Fast, big and strong. Plays defense like Bo Horvat but has way better speed at the same age, very good skater. He plays a high tempo game and has a motor that doesn't quit. His offense instincts and talents are a notch above Bo's. We will likely be picking in his range and I think he could be the ideal Center to play here. If his two way skills are as advertised, he would be able to make the jump to the NHL quickly. Honestly, he looks to be a sure thing to play in the NHL, just wonder how high his ceiling is. I am not interested the pure offensive center. Our team is being built from the net out, defense is highly valued. Depth is as well. He need bigger bodies in key positions to compete in the west. We need larger two way centers that can do it all. Kill penalties, drive play, score and pass. Bo is doing that, Sutter can do it, just not as well, if Mittlestad was on the roster we could roll four lines, shut down other teams top players, counter attack and grind teams into the ground in the playoffs. After seening the twins power play success and failure, I want the team to run the PP from the point again with two defenders that can both shoot and pass. The half board PP is over for me. OJ can do that, Stecher can do that, Hutton can do that, and hopefully Trymakin can be developed into a Chara like player as well. Skilled wingers with speed are easier to Aquire. We already have a few, hopefully our PF develops and we could have a dynamic team blessed with size and speed. Let's get a faster and more offense driven version of Bo Horvat and run other teams ragged. EW
  7. Added to that, Boeser's best talent is his ability to find the seam or open spaces and let's the game come to him. This is elite at his current level of play and if it translates to the NHL... his shot, release and passing are all top notch, but it's his IQ that I think will set him apart. EW
  8. Don't know why in all the times I compare Boeser, that Vanek never came to mind. Great shooter in his prime, not Ovi esque, but still at the all star level. Man oh man, if Boeser can reach a similar level of play, we make out like bandits.
  9. All the more reason to send Gaunce down. He produced well at the AHL level.
  10. His legs aren't stumps either. Cody should have played rugby, he has the legs of a front rower.
  11. Wait a few more years when Bo starts putting up better numbers. I can see him being a 70 pt player or better, playing center, team Capt and a monster clutch playoff player. He could get a better return.
  12. It's more like the parent club was so depleted with a declining core that younger players had no one in their way in getting promoted. Horvat skated a week or so in the AHL, Virtannen is just now playing there, Stecher, Trymakin and Hutton all went straight to the NHL. McCann was used to add defensive depth, Gaunce could still be getting AHL reps. Thats is a load of good young players who missed AHL time. The club might be better served by having these players dominate in the AHL, but think of how weak the Nucks would be without them. That's due to the void of any viable player being drafted for 6-8 years under two previous GM's, not JB. Green should be ecstatic that JB found Demko and signed Gartieg. Two young hotshot goalies that can steal them some games and might be good enough to get them a playoff berth. EW
  13. OJ will need some time, but with our new found depth on D we have no need to rush him. I expect 2 more years one more in Jr with a 9 game stint and another year in Uticca with reps in the NHL. He does not need to be rushed. As bad as things are right now, no knee jerk moves with development. EW
  14. Takes all the fun out of it when you have to explain it in detail. In fairness, any joke that has to be explained didn't work. Great comeback though, pure gold.
  15. Slow clap. Well done. Not enough pluses for this. Made my day while I sit home with my sick kid. Thanks.
  16. If Eriksson would waive his NMC for a move or for expansion, that would be a way out a bad signing... Now I said it. I was on board, but if JB can find a way out without giving up any other assests, then have at hoss. Ot it would be nice to get a pick or prospect for Eriksson, but I would honestly trade him for future considerations to the right team. EW
  17. We can't get much worse, so unless a stealth tank is on, no reason not to try. The twins are stagnant and are way to predictable. Mix it up, not like Willie can look more of a fool that he currently does. I like the line up you just posted. I would go with that from here to the end of the season barring injuries or trades.
  18. Split the twins. Put Daniel with Horvat and Hansen/Rodin. Then put Baer and Eriksson with Henrik. Good mix of speed and skill. Then have team Henrik vs Team Daniel. See who scores more and has bragging rights.
  19. Having Sami Salo back in Vancouver would be awesome!!! That was the beginning of the end when he left.
  20. Unless the the plan was to have a stern task master make him suffer to have the 'next' coach come in and build his confidence up and earn loyalty. Green could become Jakes Guru and their combined success could see both in the NHL next season. Ala AV coming up with Kesler, Beiska, Burrows and Edler. LOL... Master plan... EW
  21. That is a huge leap for a 19 y/o. When he came in last year, he started it all out by putting McDavid on his ass at the Young Stars tourney. A ballsy thing to do, hen he got to camp and could not get on the right side of Willie, and was placed in a defensive assignment on his weak side. For an offensive player, it would be tough. Then that goof from NJ took him down. Jake lost his swagger. He will be a target on the ice and had little or no back up. Build up his confidence by giving him AHL minutes. He can dominate and hopefully that translates to the NHL.
  22. Jake was being reigned in from the get go in Van. I think it hurt his confidence and he was torn between playing the game naturally and having to overthink his two way work. That may pay off in the long term. But confidence is a very hard thing to regain once it is lost.
  23. Willie has a mindset that IMO is a poor match for this club. Willie is coaching 'not to lose' games. This might change as he gets more comfortable playing his younger players. There have been some very questionable line ups with deployment that I don't agree with. After rhe Hansen injury and the loss in TO, that seemed to change a bit. T88 dressed, Horvat was used more agressively and Sutter started off with the twins. Things have gotten better since then. Glad Jake is getting some positive results in Utica. Coach Green could cement his status as the CDC's future coach by building Jake into the PF he is ment to be.
