Hammer is a good baseline. Vlasic has been used by many analysts and JB. OJ might never be the marque player for the masses, but can be the glue that holds everything together. Put him with a hotshot Jovo clone and watch out.
-
I think Olli can think the game better than Hammer. His stick handling is excellent and that pass is sublime. He is similar in the steadiness of his game and how he calms things down on defence. But I have never seen Hammer walk the blue line or seamlessly go to the net like Juolevi.

^^^^ OJ is a player who would likely excell with advanced stats. Wonder how the analytics guys feel about OJ. Added to that, JB drafting a guy who isn't a meat and potatoes guy, but possible analytics dream player.

For me Tkachuk was never my choice at 5. Either one of the top forwards fell, screw you Columbus. At five it was one of the big three D or trade down. I wanted JC, I think his detractors where over blown. That being said I am not a scout and JB liked Olli more. Can't blame him and scouting is a long game.

^^^^ This Put Sutter with the twins. Move Granlund to center between Baer and Virtannen and leave the 4th line as is. Give it a shot and see what happens.

If we can land Trouba, this would make Tanev expendable for another asset, either a LHD or winger. Gotta think Tanev could get us a decent LHD with a pick or prospect as a possible add on. Tanev also may be able to play the left side. I want to keep Guds, and if pressed into a bigger role with Trymakin. Trouba with with Edler and Sbisa with Larsen/Stecher. Wonder if Hutton and a young forward not named Virtannnen/Horvat/Boeser (Baer, Granlund, Gaunce, Rodin.... Eriksson...lol) and one or two 2nds would get a deal done. Hutton has upside and might be a tantalizing peice for the Peg.
-
For Trouba, Edler or Hutton going back as part of a Package is not a problem for me. Unless we can include Sbisa???? Lol.
-
Tanev, Baer and a 2nd for Trouba..... Doubt it would get the deal done, but worth a kick at the tires.

Glad we have players that hate losing. Danny didn't look happy either.

Or split the twins up with a mix of youth. Team Henrik vs team Daniel. Both are skilled enough to carry a line and like to goad each other as brothers always do. They can always be double shifted together and not miss a beat. This encourages our young players, a different and less predictable match up for opposing teams and gives two lines some excellent play makers. What at do we have to lose?
-
Time to mix experience with youth and energy. Henrik with Eriksson and Sutter Daniel with Horvat and Hansen. Spread out the Sedinary. Team Daniel vs Team Henrik. Get some internal competition going. It's not like these combos can't be changed on the fly. At any point you can play the twins with Hansen etc and have a line of Eriksson Horvat and Rodin. These are our top six guys. When Rodin gets back we can drop Sutter/Bo down to the third line center spot and have: Eriksson/Daniel, Henrik and Hansen Daniel/Eriksson, Horvat/Sutter and Rodin. What does this team not do to try and get some offence going. EW

Time to try Trymakin with Tanev. Give Tanev some protection and give Trymakin a fantastic d partner. Keep Stecher with Edler and Guddy with Hutton. Young emerging players with experience. That's our path to success if not this season, next year. It has to start now. These are 5 on 5 pairings that can shift depending on special teams and match ups.

From the last video, other than the high risk play that ended up in the net, his game was excellent. So smooth, excellent stick handling, crisp actuate passes and great anitcapation. He recovered well. Honestly, his passing reminds me of Henrik. He will get bigger and better. Heck of a smart player.

Goligoski is not a strong defence man. (Sorry for the bold, I am not yelling;). Other than OEL Zona's d is really weak, like ours last year. IMO. Well maybe not that bad....

^^^^. IDK when it will happen, but sure as $&!# it will happen;) Too many hockey 'fans' think development is a short game and the first player to make it in the NHL is always the best from every draft class. It takes 5 years to determine drafted players development. Ollie was a project due to his smaller size, not his skill or ability. I was on the fence between JC and OJ. I wanted JC due to his size and thought the detractors were overselling his weaknesses. I liked OJ too, but he was going to need some time to grow. I still think JB made the right draft choice, even if I was more keen on JC. The thing that I like about OJ, is his personal drive/ego. This guy is quietly going to surprise a lot of fans when he makes the club. He makes his own confidence and is very sure if his abilities. That's the part we fans don't see when scouting prospects, we don't actually get to talk to the players. After seeing some post draft interviews I can see why OJ rocked the interview portion of the combine.

Real changes have already happened, but we need to get lucky to pick up a player who fills the top center spot. Until the Sedins retire, we won't likely get one, but that's life. I like that Benning is greatly improving the organizational depth. Player development also has a higher importance to the club than ever. Horvat is growing in confidence and has a lot of tools that get overlooked. Great hands and shot, with the size and strength to compete. He has improved his skating. Not willing to pigeonhole him yet. I dont think we are a bottom 5 team without huge injuries. I think we are a fringe bubble team. Let's play some games so we can stop speculating and let the players decide. EW

Early days yet. Stetcher had a camp of a life time. Larsen got a bit more rope, he is by no means safe from being replaced. We will see Stetcher this year in Van, and as long as he has the stamina, he will likely stick.
-
Tanev plus our 1st would either move us up in the draft or grab a young offensive center. Options are nice moving forward. A bit too early to bank on our young defenders, but things look very promising. Stetcher convinced me, Juolevi has great potential. If Trymakin can be developed properly this season we look very good on d and can move players for other needs.
-
Put Tanev with Juolevi and Edler with Stetcher. Trymakin as the 7th guy. Stoked for the future.
-
WTG, Thanks for posting the shift by shift video. He looks like a high energy player who always has his feet moving. Needs a lot of polish but so does every prospect. The only player we have like him on the roster is Hansen. Wonder is Lockwood is familiar with the 'Honey Badger'.
-
There is a really good reason to use the waiver protected status and sign players on PTO's. It is about protecting key players from the expansion draft. . Gaunce will get games, but over 40 and he can get claimed. Same with Rodin. Granlund can be eligible this year as well. Sign Ruutu and we can manage the games of some other players. This is is going to play a big role in clubs roster assignments/moves this year.

^^^^. Agree, We literally had the worst defence in the league last year. Bart and Webber were regulars and at times Sbisa was our defacto number one d. (Edler, Tanev and Hammer were all injured). Hutton came out of nowhere (Credit GMMG). This year, we have a legit top 4, abet without a true number one d. But when have we ever had one? Sbisa may not even make the starting lineup. Not likely, but we have guys legitmately fighting for spots. Stetcher could easily make it, and problably should if he keeps up his play. We could have a top ten d core by the season's end. No true number one, but really good depth from top to bottom.
-
Absolutely His biggest weakness is size and strength. Skating, character and IQ are all very positive. He has the height and can easily add to his frame properly over the next few years. This is is the difference between defence and forward. I would not want to see Juolevi get hit you someone like Virtannen for example against the boards. He has shown that he was worth the pick and thinks the game well. We have time with him due to JB's 'retooling' of our d core. The future looks bright on the back end. EW.
-
That would be right in line with everything I have managed to see in bits a pieces. Unlike the Sedins, skating is not his issue. He he is doing the right thing, and exactly what WD wants. Defence first, don't hurt the team. Subban did not get that memo. He needs to gain strength and size. His offence will come, but this preseason he has to show the coaching staff he can be relied upon in his own end. Not flashy, but he looks like he could play the game with a 'cigarette' in his mouth. KB3 would approve.

Did not know about the minimum games requirement. If we trade Sbisa, we can always sign or trade for a defender that meets the requirements who is a throw away piece.
