5 on 5 next year. Sedins with Hansen. Baer, Bo and Loui Burrows Sutter and Rodin Etem Granlund and Dorset I would do that unless Gaunce makes the team and allows Sutter to move to Rw.

What's experience and knowledge in the "New NHL" where 27 old guys are GM's. Soon the GM's will just download an app for trading/ drafting etc... Grapes was playing pro hockey before he knew how to read... Still smarter than anyone on this board when it comes to the game.

Vrby gets to shoulder the blame for last season. He only wanted to play with the twins. He did not put in his best effort when he was placed with Bo. IMO Vrby dragged the line down.
-
No way we move a RHD to make room for Ollie. Sbisa or Edler. Edler might waive and we could get decent return. Just summer entertainment. Most likely Sbisa gets moved and we retain salary.
-
Exactly. Excellent point. No way McCann gets is Gudbranson if he hadn't wowed the analytics guru's last season in the NHL. EW
-
Agree. Plus Virtannen also was not really being challenged in Junior. It showed when he was with the club last year. Bad habits take time to correct. I am expecting to see some solid growth this year. JB's comment about needing a big gritty scorer may have been an effective motivator in Jakes progress.

I don't think Ollie makes the big club for anything more than a 9 game stint unless he steals the show. JB and TL have both stated that he is likely to go back to London. They have made it clear that they want him developed in a way that will be best for Ollie. I honestly think they are higher on Ollie than any other player in the system in the past 3 years. Including Horvat. We we have to be patient with young defenders. We have depth at LHD, so no need to rush. On the outside chance he does steal the show, what can we get for Edler. A gritty scoring Left wing? EW.

Great news. Another year in London will show us what Juolevi can do. The team will not be a stacked as last years and Juolevi's role will greatly increase. Tkachuk is also likely to return. I want to see how Juolevi does running the PP from the left point. We can compare samples readily between last season and the upcoming one. Both he and the 2016 draft picks in London might be playing to prove that it wasn't all Marner and Dvorak. He can always change the outcome by competing his way onto the NHL roster. He will have to be highly motivated. Wishful thinking, but give a guy a a carrot. EW.

I am surprised he even made your list. LOL .

Naslund was a worthy player to retire the number. He was the best left wing in hockey during his tenure. Six 30 plus goal campaigns (3 times cracked 40 goals, and missed the 50 goal mark by 2 in 02-03). In the height of the dead puck era he one of the highest gpg avg in the NHL. He was a better sniper than Daniel, second only to Bure in the history of the organization. He was team captain, honest to a fault... Much like Henrik. He scored more goals for the franchise than almost any other player, passed only recently by Daniel. He he was the face of the franchise for 8-9 years. It was a failure of management not to capitalize of his talent and build a winner. Burke failed to fix the goalie situation. Clouts was decent, but not a playoff goalie. I will always consider his being let go as MG's first mistake. He played one more season with the Rangers, but his heart for the NHL was dead. Had Naslund stayed, I think he could have had three more years. EW

Juolevi does both. Great draft pick. It could have been a disaster.

Absolutely

Agree that drafting Juolevi was the correct move. Huge hole in the org chart that is finally being addressed. Added to that, we might have prospects in the system that could fill in on the left side. Etem, Gaunce, Baer Rodin and Virtannen all can play left wing or both. Virtannen. Jake is not as smart as Tkachuk, but has way better physical ability. Horvat and Boeser are very intelligent players, they should be able to make use of Jake's abilities. Same goes for Etem Gaunce is is clearly an intelligent player, he does have some talent and chemistry matters more than draft position. Baer and Rodin both have playmaking abilities. With versatile players as prospects, WD can experiment. We may see some alchemy happen.
-
We have some time with Juolevi. A stretched out 9 game stint at most. Give him a pay check, give him some direction of what the club wants for him. Send him back to work on gaining size and dominating in Juniors. He won't be there for long.
-
Vancouver is heading in the right direction. Gudbranson, Trymakin, Pedan, Horvat, Virtannen, Etem and Gaunce are all very sizeable guys. I am okay with a winger or two on the light side. As much as larger players are the norm, we are seeing small speed skill guys sliping thru and doing damage. Rodin and Baer have those roles, no more for now. what we should have are players that can respond when Nurse and Lucic Maroon and Kassian start messing about. I think we have some players that can handle that.

It's a freebie. He has shown some moxie in the SHL and it's worth a shot. If he doesn't pan out, he will go back the SHL and get well paid. If he can give us 15-20 goals and is not a liability defensively, then winner winner chicken dinner. Really it's like gambling with someone else's money. Our team is not going to base its hopes on his production this season, so anything is bonus. Basically the best situation Rodin can hope for entering into the NHL.

Agree. I do not see the LW as a huge hole to fill. Virtannen looks very good there in Junior. We need another centre and even more defence depth in the coming draft. Unless there is a clear cut BPA. Almost every centre can play one wing. Some wingers can play both sides. We can even convert a defender to wing. Burns played wing when he arrived in San Jose, now he is back at defence. Gaunce may project to be a great 3rd line centre, as stated by some, but he could easily be a 2nd line left wing. Ala Higgins in his prime. 20-25 goals with solid two way play. Can take draws. Just one example.

Can't argue with your assessment. Brock just seems to have that 'it' factor. Really believe in his potential, but I am glad he went back this year and that JB and co. were apart of the move. Bodes well for signing him.
-
Playing styles. Brock shows an ability to score and move the puck in close to the net. He also finds the seams. I would not take Tkachuk over Boeser.
-
And they would be wrong in my opinion, Kyle can be a player in this league, provided that he is either placed between two wingers that can create space for him, or he starts eating more meat and potatoes. There are tons of smaller guys that excell in the lower leagues, but when things get tougher, they often lack the physical ability to get into the dirty areas. He is smaller than McCann, who did go to the dirty areas, that's why most of us like him so much. Gallagher is another guy, but there are very few players under 180lbs or just over, that can make it in this league. Brock is a strong player, who seems to show a similar game to Mathew Tkachuk. With a better shot and that is why pundits were saying that if Boeser went in this years draft, he would have been a top 5 or ten pick. Cannot think of one player in recent years to show so much character. I want him to retire a Canuck, if at all possible.
-
It isn't unusual for 1st and 2nd year pros to be streaky. Patience for our younger players is advised. We have good future with Bo. Let's give it a bit of time.
-
^^ Agreed with crumb. No offence Alf. Back to Bo. Awesome, don't ever trade him. I see Shane Doan like abilities in Bo, maybe better as Bo plays center;) That type of leadership and playing ability is going to be all important for this club. He is the type if player that you want to retire in a canucks jersey.

Horvat is getting the Hodgson treatment for the first half this year, some shelter and softer minutes to polish his game. Sutter allows for this, as he can take the harder minutes. This was likely the plan last year, until Sutter went down. Horvat did well with the circumstances. Vrbrata did not help at all. Looking forward to this year.

Guys like Virtanen take time to season. He has been able to cut corners and get away with it in Junior. Those days are done, now he needs to develop his pro game. After last year, I believe that Virtenan needs to spend some time on the Bus in AHL getting smarter and more driven about his approach to each game. Start him in Utica, give him top six minutes, let him watch other guys get the call up, then after half a season, give him a taste. Send him back down the moment his play drops off, wash and repeat. His game requires an intensity that he struggled with last year, understandably.

Nergish, I don't have a sarcasm button, so apologies for the 'goaltender @$&@&@@&" statement. I was being cheeky, and realize that we are all a little traumatized from the whole aftermath of 2011. I couldn't agree more about Demko's timing and how he and Markstrom are coming on at an ideal time for this franchise. Miller clears the books this year, and Markstrom is going to get a raise, but we should still save cap as I doubt Markstrom will be paid as much as Miller. Good times ahead in net for the Canucks.
