Miller is 9th in scoring atm… so he is with the former hart and art Ross winning players who were generational players for this team in terms of offence. but he is a much more red blooded player, a PF who can play at all ends of the ice, but does have some gaffes in his own end, but plays the body and the puck. can any see Miller taking 6 rabbit punches from Marchand in a SC final game and just looking to the refs? Nope, Marchand would have to be carried off the ice. that’s a guy that is in the same mood, but better than Linden in his prime in terms of offence and leaving his play on the ice with a super honest game that is fun to watch. he is a mix of Bert, Trev and the Twins. Plays all forward positions and is like having an extra coach for the younger forwards. play him and maybe in 5-6 years we move him to a SC contender when he collects and ring or two and get a bunch of firsts in in 2028. I see no reason why the ‘Legend’s” protege cannot learn to take face offs, But at this moment he looks to be a forechecking nightmare for defenders. That was one of his highlighted skill sets in his pre draft scouting reports. PLD had the same type of play, where puck battles in the corner looked more like muggings. also I want to give mad props for our defence for turning the season around. for all those who hate OEL, how slag Myers, well, Myers… knocking on wood, but check the games played this year. Check the Plus Minus and look to the teams overall goals against and then rank them in the west. tied for second with the blues and only Calgary has less goals against than we do. the nay sayers on OEL who is a secondary scorer in or defence behind Hughes… look to his games played and his plus minus and then consider that he and Myers are our Match Up D men. think those that may see beyond the stat line might just consider where we were at 20 games in and were we are, it’s not just because of Miller and Demko, that two key minute eating veteran defence men have kept us in games when the offence wasn’t working. also it’s really hard to score when you can’t get the puck in your end. With the numbers, it indicates that as a team, we are very balanced and have both the skill to score, but the skills to defend. That and the puck steals, those are back breakers, they cost teams series. Petey, Miller, Horvat and Podz all seem to excel at stripping or creating turn overs. darkhorse. This team is causing the blood pressure to be rising in the coaches of the teams in front of them. 5 in a row when they need it most. The object in your review mirror is closer that it appears. -

Well that a coming out party for Podz, who may have just hitched a ride shotgun with Miller down the stretch. if that happens, with Miller racking up 5 apples a game, can we say best Canuck player since Hank won the hart, Podz could have an outside shot at 20 goals and almost 80 games played in his rookie season. he’s at 13 and 3 of those are game winners. cough, is there anyone not wanting to keep Miller and have Podz learn on his wing. isn’t that how champion ship teams are built? resign Miller, trade Brock. Podz almost mugged a guy in the corner for an assist on one goal. -
Go for the Ukrainian girl. She will fight with and for you, but be there with you when times are tough, looking good doing it. the Russian could poison you, invade your private spaces and take over your independence and the make you do everything she wants and then each times she gets what she wants, she is unhappy. or my ex wife.

Oops. I don’t keep up with all the numbers. I thought he signed for 6 in cow town…

Everything is relative indeed. OEL is a smart player. He is intelligent in his defence, his skating is excellent, and he can move the puck up ice, making the intelligent play to get the puck out. He is a Tanev with way more offensive skills and a far better shot, but can fill in for Hughes, if Hughes goes down or falters. So in that way, he fills Edlers role. he can eat minutes and not decline rapidly, carry the play if others can’t and yes, his pay cheque is 1.2 million more than Tanev’s I don’t see a lot of decline in his play being a risk, he is not a overly aggressive player and the long list of seasoned defenders to not decline. There are many that play better with age, or can still do things effectively without the puck that are extremely valuable, and eat minutes at crucial points in games that you want the veterans on the ice. OEL and the entire team had a disastrous first 20 games. He had just got here. Defence always takes longer to bell than the offensive side of a team. each pairing was new to each other. In his pattern of play, he tends to gain momentum as the season progresses, or his fitness and skating don’t decline as fast as others when the season wears them down. whatever reason, he is a solid player that could be a bit high on the price, but I look at the 6 m we paid edler, and to me, OEL, was is and will be a better player at the offensive side and less physical, but smarter as a defender. Is OEL worth more than the. 6 m we paid elder last year. Yup. Is worth more than the 6 m Tanev’s getting in cow town. Yup. caveat, Tanev is a RHD, so his value has a bump, but I see them as very smart and thinking defence men.

Are we not entertained!!!!? this team beat Vegas and Demko wasn’t sharp on the game tying goal. some really amazing shots went in on both goalies. Love Petey’s take aways. They are game breakers and he is so dangerous with the puck attacking the net. think this team has some more to give going down the stretch. let’s hope Demko’s fatigue isn’t a major factor as we need him to him more than ever if the team is going to squeak into the playoffs.
-
This is why we can’t have nice things. OEL vs Player Name Here. Fred, a guy who became a millionaire, like many in Vancouver by just being born in the right decade and buying a house when folks, every day folks could buy a house, doesn’t believe in miracles. Fred your living the dream. Walk a mile in others shoes and maybe your view finder will be less dark and off base, I have you the credit for OJ, you were right. But this is tripe. OEL is a very good defender. He is not the best defender in the league, but he is not out of place on the top pairing. That and his production is improved, which is directly due to Ice time he got when Hughes stepped out with the Flu. so riddle yourself this, is it the 1st PP ice time and being matched up for scoring that has created the uptick in scoring by the depth guy in the 1st PP due to his attitude and age, or the ice time and line mates? also, when did the team collapsed when Elder was out of the lineup like every single season, we lost Hughes, in a super tight race and the team carried on with OEL and didn’t miss a beat. That’s not the case prior to OEL and can anyone say that Rathbone was ready to step in and be better than OEL atm. OEL is better than edler was at the same age, his contract is higher, but the today version of Edler would be too,

No pick is the GM’s single handed choice. they are the head, and face of the pick, and are the ones blamed for the bad ones, but in the case of JB, his, in the Royal sense, picks, good or bad, low picks or high picks… no different that Nonis and Burke get credit for Hansen, Edler, Burrows, Tanev and Bieksa.
-
Fred, JB is a scout, he didn’t lose his prior experience when they made him a GM. take your hateraid off, the guy left the cupboard stocked and whether he was driving around Scandinavia or not, he hired the guy and was the authority that selected the pick. if you critique a person fairly, you have to be more than only one sided. and it pains me. But Fred you were right. OJ was a terrible pick. Just can’t right a guy off, until he is written off in my profession, being a medic. think that’s ok
-
Look another present from JB. Maybe Jurmo and Myrenberg are his way of saying sorry bout forsling and OJ…

I love the despair and band wagon jumpers. doesn’t the fan base understand the best wagon rides ever, are when it’s a fire wagon! Whether on fire or putting one out, it’s exciting and no one has all the answers. Just sit back and take it in… have some fun, are you not entertained! -

I love Alf’s hot takes! Their as spicy as Dhali’s and it’s not like others on this board did not feel the same. I would never ever let Dhali or Alf be the GM of the Franchise… fir Christ sakes, I hope they would never accept the job! But they often represent a contrary view point, in a way that is open to debate and with no claim to being an expert or putting the players down for not living up to our hopes and dreams, an all too common tactic employed by media and some ‘fans’ in this base, it makes a decision or establishment mind set, open to debate and reflect. That’s never a bad thing. -

As a follow up, Burroughs is a feared player in the league. He is a normal sized guy, but fights like Rick Rypien rip, and or Kevin Bieksa, He plays defence like the Honey Badger played wing. he was a free agent signed by a shred judge of potential like Stetcher and his name almost sake, a hero of the franchise, Alex Burrows. He can play either side of the defence making him a Swiss Army knife defender that has to be accounted for by the other team because he can change the game with one hit. he may be one of the up and coming defenders to never turn your back on in the league and never ever look down when crossing his blue line. the type of D man that becomes more dangerous the more reps he gets against his opponents, cause hitting is all about timing, not size or anything else, timing and follow thru, then last of all body position. as Ryan Merkley demonstrated in the clinic Burroughs and he put on last night, about how not to take contact, never ever turn away from a hit, but turn into it. If you turn away, your now adding your energy and motion to the player coming into make the hit. same philosophy as truckers when a dear steps out of the highway, the only way to avoid a serious accident for the trucker, and damaging the vehicle, while not being able to save the suicidal deer, to be fair, we never, ever studied deer populations for depression, this could be what deer do, rather than be eaten alive by predators, a pretty terrible way to end your natural life, in your normal existence… so if you and another person are going for the puck, the person that hesitates, ducks or turns, that person is going to get hurt. Hertl and Edler have also demonstrated in a clinic similar to this and the refs also had to manage that game too if I recall. -
Alf, the guy that dropped like a wet noddle, a yellow ice player, as Woody Harleson would put it, is the baby leafs assistant captain. so I think he is a team leader. Not sure if the analytics crowd has figured out a way to calculate leadership and heart. I would be ashamed to have ever been seen doing that in a rugby game or in a school yard vs a bully.

Hate to break it to the Draft positing crowd, this team isn’t done yet. they put on a clinic in terms of playing for every puck and they pushed back. The JT Miller penalty to even it up, that would never be called in a Playoff game. game management by refs is rigging, or fixing in my opinion. That call felt like a gimmick after Burroughs and Lockwood embarrassed the Sharks with physical play. The sharks could be the old Nucks in the last days of the Sedins, when we were the softest team in hockey. I cannot see the sharks winning a playoff series with the way they played last night. The teams in front are all catchable, Dallas, Las Vegas and even the Predators. Edmonton is as bipolar as we are in terms of its season this year. They have some amazing fire power that can take over any game at any time, but they can turn into a dumpster fire with a moments notice too. we are one hot streak away from the playoffs and they are one losing streak away from golfing. 9 games left and the wildcards are still undecided. it’s harder to play with the lead than people think. Demko is giving NHL coaches in the western conference nightmares until the post season line up is settled. -
Klim bitch slapped the guy. Jeesuz.
-
Can we give this guy a look. if he can’t keep up, then okay, but if his game got chemistry with Hughes…it’s worth a look. We have him or woo, and both should get a look at some point.

Alvin is in his second language, JB hadn’t finished his first yet… lol. I think JB drafted mostly the guys who were the right player after he swung and missed the first time. Let’s go back in time… 2014, JB was two weeks on the job and clearly the Bruins did not tip their hand to Pasternak, maybe giving JB a bit of mis information on Pasternak because he was right there. JV, I was a person that saw the glass as half full, but what a poor character and real $&!# stain on the franchise history. McCann was a solid pick, Demko Stellar, Trymakin could have been useful in a Schenn role, Forsling was a great pick, terrible trade but great pick. Next year, JB makes up for $&!# Stain, with Brock, the Flow Boeser. Tried to find a Center, got close with Adam Gaudette. still can’t find a D man. &^@#s up his first real d man pick. I think he saw him self somehow in OJ. JB flopped too. Serge, Chyckrun, McAvoy etc… Yes, Matt, but what about the defence. They went too far in the opposite way after $&!# Stain and it didn’t work either. Defence is still and issue and a number of solid picks were there that went after OJ. That lazy guy with a weaker immune system. I don’t think he loves the sun much. JB finds a way to make his Center ice position one of power at the NHL with Petey. One key area of need fixed for the next ten years with Horvat, Petey and Miller. Then Hughes, and Woo too. Suddenly there is youth on the defence and maybe a guy for the RHD. Hogs and Podz, big leaps forward in drafting. Rookie season with his homeland waging a horrible war of aggression. He has peers likely dead in Ukraine. He lost the room thru the Covid season and going with $&!# stain vs TT. Then stick with green when green lost the room and ultimately the season. It’s some of the best young talent and some great trades some bad, and some terrible signings. if forsling and McCann stuck around, it would be a great line up depth wise. -

JB was a hit and miss kinda GM, way more positive, but he was pigeon holed early by the weird media market bi polar personality, and was a guy who wasn’t the most articulate, but he was and is shrewd scout and made some really great moves. he made some bad, but what a dump of bad contracts… he made the job of Rutherford and Alvin so much easier. Plus he cleaned up his own mess. he has blind spots, and I think that he became further and further isolated and reduced his staff to a dis functional level and group like minded folks who could not see the same things that JB could not see. Like that Green was timed out. that move by Smyl, was the GM move of the year. Lol -

Also. The NHL needs to stop Zona and other bottom feeders from racing for the bottom. If the goal is parity, what is going on there is a tire fire. The coyotes would look better in Quebec. Heck, they would be playing better hockey in Regina. They are barely AHL. maybe it’s time to add a club but also create relegation, like the British Footy Premier League. the bottom team is relegated to the AHL and the top AHL team is brought up. I would rather watch guys battle for a real pay check and a last shot at the big league than washed up stars play for the cheap seats. it would change things for those pros, if they had to catch buses vs fly first class. -

So, three thirty goal scorers by season end. Brock has to be moved, he would have had twenty and could have more, but injury. From the teams play, he isn’t missed… 4.5 for Garland or 7.5 for Brock. I would rather that 7.5 go to the defence and whatever money saved from the defence after that money is spent only to improve the defence, then the 2 m or so for Poolman or whoever is moved out for the roster spot gets spend on a decent third liner. we have the fire power, we need the defence before the fire power costs too much, Ala Edmonton and TO. Love Brock, but do we really need him… it’s a the biggest question at this time. can a trade be made, Brock for a RHD and or first to draft the RHD. we can win without the extra forward.
