  1. For all those that are slagging OEL… how about that. 3 apples. by my count. looked good on the right side. Solid game. This team will not be in the post season, it should be. a bad start to the year with a tired coaching system that seemed out of ideas. a manager that would not see the coach as the problem, so we get changes. the coaching was just stale and too predictable. AV was the same. Green lost the room and JB didn’t seem to understand. good clean change. They are all professionals and look at the score. that’s JB’s goalie, JB didn’t draft Horvat, but he developed him and made him Captain. Horvat is cracking 30 goals this season. JB brought in Miller, and how many said, what the &^@#! A late first! for a third liner, just ,Iike Bo was a ‘safe’ pick we could of and Nish… how is the teams Center ice postion? How about scoring punch and or depth? OEL looks like a good option on the RHD. Could be a way to work around the issue and bring up Rathbone and have a Hughes Dermott Rathbone Burroughs LHD with a OEL,Myers, Schenn on the right with more depth needed. With a focus on drafting the problem away and making moves to further strengthen the defence, and this team with this coach and goalie is ready to be a regular Dark horse into the playoffs until they can prove they are a contender. this is a good team, a better team that it’s record and the better sign Bruce so this team can get a good start to the year and not be in last place 20 games in. had we not gifted a handicap to everyone else this team would be in the playoffs this year.
  2. If my lack of accuracy on the dollar value of Martin, I was only basing it off of Halak base rate, 1.5m. so over one or two years, with Martin, a can’t loose proposal with him either here for cheap or to back stop Abbey as a development factory for other needed positions of depth. this is when Abbey, which, for mostly selfish reasons, me living closer to Utica than the rest of you, becomes a real factor. Round two or bust next year.
  3. There is massive difference between Vancouver and other teams in the NHL. They have Ian Clark. Halak is not going back, and Vancouver is only a prefect place for Spencer to sing a short term two year deal with a 1.5 per year contract. or the club is fine to have Spencer leave and another goalie option. I don’t think so. plus in two years of constant tutelage from Clark and Demko, we could move either and rinse wash and repeat thru scouting, drafting and development. it’s why it’s called a factory, there is no more coached position in hockey. So who does this highly technical coaching had to also balance the psychology of many goalies, a very unrefined science where helmet technology has never been definitively tested, so who knows the long term effects of the shots to the head that Pro Goalies take at 100 plus miles an hour, that others risk severe injury if they get in the way of. so shaky psychologically and the technical coaching is a constant need, as the player adjusts to shooters adjusting to the player, and so goes the Cold War of hockey, between the shooters and the goalies. Demko had the ability and this team has the scoring depth, but we need to see if Alvin and Rutherford can replicate the same magic they had in Pittsburg and Rutherford had in Raleigh. if he could ever convince Rod Brind’amour to come back to the west coast, that would be a coup, for when Bruce is ready to move on. the RHD side of the defence needs to be addressed thru pro scouting and either trade or FA signing. if Myers was number 3/4 and a PKer, and Schenn was there to back stop Rathbone and shelter Woo’s attempt to leap from the farm next year, if some one can be found to be the partner Hughes deserves. OEL and Myers is a good second pairing, a really good second pairing. Gives the team depth and I see no future for Poolman at all. but some how Rutherford and Alvin need to fix the Hughes pairing. coaching wise, I am super happy to see the whole group resigned for two or three years. they deserve a shot with the club from pre season onwards, and with the turnaround, I can’t see a one year deal as even worth considering. Bruce would walk away and the club would look like assholes again. hope he can get the younger players into the line up, rest up any injured players who were playing hurt and get the whole club, from top to bottom, bottom to top on the same page and go for it. the Florida Panthers AGM cap penalty will be over. So we get the 3 million back and now are on an equal footing with the rest of the league.
  4. It will change when the inevitable is done. I am trying to firgure out why Hunt taking bottom minutes atm is a problem, it now a help in draft position and extra practice on PK when playing with hunt 5 v 5, so it makes his line mates better at 4 v 5 for next season. Why is Rathbone being hurt by getting major ice time in his first full professional season. Isn’t the biggest bitch on this site, that we have no prospects in Abbey? Can’t be both.
  5. You guys need to reflect, that are sore that the team lost. It looks like the team and Demko are running out of gas. It’s a hard run to recover from any deficit in this league, especially the one to start this year. are they mathematically done? Idk, would I put any money on them, nope, but my life is in dire shape, so five bucks isn’t much of a bet. but there are teams in front that have struggled terribly at times and don’t have solid goaltending. One injury away from next season too. this team cannot get there alone, but if Edmonton falters in net or another wildcard team, things can change dramatically. If this loss is as bad as those think, go out and help someone else, you don’t have real problems.
  6. Bouchard is an NHL defence man. is he an al iafrate or Aucoin or a number of other flash or suspect RHD D men with big shots. he is as old as Hughes, so his coaching and development has to be focused on his future or he will end up like a Sheldon souray and end up finishing his NHL contract in the AHL. It’s $&!# development and structure in Edmonton. One problem this club has put a ton of work into starting with MG and thru JB.
  7. Added to my early morning insight,,, lol… wake and bake, pinched nerve in my back. Bruce is way older than me, and he is living the life… I can barely &^@#ing pick up a cracker. so Edmonton Calgary. Anyone watch that dumpster fire. if the Dallas Vancouver game was a playoff game, the Edmonton Calgary game was an Allstar Game. Inrony intended. no defence. Barely any goaltending and cherry picking like not even trying to back skate. I feel sorry of Bouchard, who needs coaching to be any thing more than a offensive d man. What the &^@# is Edmonton doing? I think the oilers and their tenders are likely to pack it in and collapse after that debacle or they finally figure out that it’s not all about hat tricks. that’s a circus up there.
  8. Bruce has a lot of the needed pieces in this very roster to be a very dangerous playoff team, we have seen it once, it was not lighting in a bottle, it was Hughes rookie season. Anything can happen between here and the end of the season. This team is in the mix and has yet to fire on all cylinders yet this season for any more than a one to two game stretch. There is depth in almost every position and this team plays to the level of the opponent, mostly. so as the competition and pressure mounts, this team has already shown its resilience and has more to give and Bruce is just fine tuning the throttle. That and Demko. he should win the hart if this team makes the playoffs and Bruce coach of the year,
  9. Watching some of the Dallas post game clips. Bowness, always liked him. Good coach, have a great assessment of Demko, and the game. He said it was like a playoff game, and that in the second period, to steal the momentum in basic terms, the Nucks won almost every face off, hemming in the Dallas forwards. Puck possession. This team was on the ropes after the first period. Dallas was dominating. But the road team could change momentum in a controlled manner, outside of skating, hits, take aways, with face offs. It’s why Toews and Bergeron will be first ballot hall of fame inductees. Face offs. The extra reason keeping Miller is a vital need. That doesn’t decrease with age.
  10. When Tanev and Hamonic switched teams, one hoped it would be a decent trade off. Dermott might finally make it work. he sounds like a D ,an we can use.
  11. I am resigning Schenn before bring Troy back. No offence to Troy.
  12. 72 is &^@# all. bruce hasn’t fully grown up yet. his age, look at how many hall of fame coaches coached until they died, the are doing what they love and are getting richly rewarded. Coaching is about brain power, interpersonal skills and communication skills with wisdom and experience. Bruce has lots of miles yet, he’s barely broke in. he’s no don cherry, thank god. And I am an atheist
  13. Maybe a Taney like player we desperately need and miss.
  14. let’s see what they come back like as the last three games really have not been indicative of the Bruce effect. Hot goalie that stopped forty plus shot and the team looked slower. Posted the above prior to the game. The team gave us an answer. They aren’t finished and want the playoffs. whether they can overcome the deficit they made early, but at least it’s debatable and Halak bought in last night. He’s the last player to get into the year.
  15. Hope Karlsson is more Pettersson like than Rodin like.
  16. Lockwood is in a great situation. How many miles does Richardson have left in his tank? Lockwood has a green light to maximize his efforts and there is a roster spot up for grabs and his competition at this point is a near timed out veteran who was just plucked off of waivers. if he isn’t taking Faceoff training to the next level, then he isn’t paying attention. the opening doesn’t have to be cleared and made ready. Fourth lines have to be harder and just plain stubborn and determined to be in the show, cause they do all the dirty work and get less minutes, pay and have shorter careers and can be replaced or traded for equipment let alone players. think Lockwood is fine.
  17. Hughes Schenn with Myers getting double shifted to keep Schenns minutes to his ideal performance and Myers has stamina. OEL Myers. The stable experienced pairing. Dermott Poolman Burroughs if Myers is double shifted Poolman, Dermott and Burroughs are capable of playing the right side. Hughes and OEL can always be double shifted. the weakest link is in the Top 4 RHD. Myers and Schenn are the guys that if they go down, we are doomed. That simple. if these guys and Bruce can get to the playoffs. Myers will be the number one target. Honestly. Hughes should be getting some reps on the Right Side. if he could make a successful transition to the right side. it opens up a top pairing of OEL Hughes which could be deadly with our forwards. then we have some real decent options as either Schenn or Myers can play either side and weren’t they a pairing in junior at one point? so they know each other and that would be a heck of a big and veteran shut down D pair. leaving our younger and not quite ready for prime time D men to take lesser minutes, in better circumstances and also be able to match up muscle vs muscle and skill vs skill. Thoughts?
  18. I would be fine with Hunt off the NHL D. a bottom 3 of Burroughs, Poolman and Dermotf is livable. Schenn as the default guy for Hughes is not sustainable. too many times we get an amazing player and then don’t seem to bring any complimentary players. A Center for Bure, a right handed shot for the Twins, and at any point a legit top 2 RHD. If it wasn’t for Stevens and Pronger, would Nydemeyer been as successful? hughes needs a stable partner for next season. OEL looks like he is playing thru an injury, but he and Myers have the experience too be able to eat some minutes. the team and Demko needed these days off. let’s see what they come back like as the last three games really have not been indicative of the Bruce effect. Hot goalie that stopped forty plus shot and the team looked slower. Lose in OT and then get hammered by the flames who were out in force when our guys looked wilted. Like the freed up cap space, Brad Richardson brings face offs to the team, made Motte expendable and Dermott is cheaper and younger than Hamonic. So a simple straightforward TDL. the RHD needs to be addressed, it is holding Hughes baxk, or soon will.
  19. Tank is in? The value in Motte to the club is way more than a 4th. The only bonus is the better draft position.
  20. His age is the right number, his contract is good, he is a depth defender and has RFA protection. Already more valuable than we realize and most importantly, Cap Space.
  21. I bet more moves are coming. but if Hamonic is gone and Schenn is here, I am glad we kept Schenn. but Rutherford and Alvin are kicking off the TDL with a decent start.
  22. Looks like Rutherford watched last nights game and decided that wasn’t the year to keep assets. why Hamonic, and not Poolman….
  23. Locker room material should the un thinkable happen and our cardiac kids meet Tampa again this post season. Wouldn’t that be epic? but if any member of the Broad Street Bullies is dissing a coach for coaching as well as Bruce has done, also by arguing it may go to another call, could be to by time or to fire up his players. Seems like Bruce using motivation and leadership inspiring coaching. He is a bit like a Roger Nelson with a character that extends onto the ice, we’re many coaches personalities don’t leave the bench, unless their assholes, like Torts or Keenan. but I think this team has connected with Bruce, and would find some motivation to be extra fired should some broadcaster or tram speaks person mock the coach that has saved their season, by doing so, kept the group together. they have something to prove and they play like it.
  24. Glad to see Woo is back. He was swinging to form just prior to the injury, hope he doesn’t need any time to pick things off where he left off.
