  1. Hogslander off to a great start. I wonder how many swedish kids are practicing their unicycling right now. Ep40 has started a trend.
  2. I wouldn't put alot of stock into Zegras being our guy. Podz fell to us. Had both been available at the same time, who knows. By taking both Podz and Keppen, two bigger players, and great picks, Benning is addressing key areas of weakness. As for targeting players. Hogslander was targeted. A unicycling swedish player. Maybe JB is 'targeting' unicyclests. Or JB and Brackett are looking for value with their selections at the draft. Are they only picking one type of player, no. But heading into this draft, Podz is a team need and a great selection. Keppen was considered Podz 2.0 (Scouching report). When looking at his numbers and how bad his team was, Keppen has 'steal' potential. Two guys that play the game the right way with size and IQ. Jack Malone alsonfits that same profile. 3 players in one draft, all sharing the same traits and attributes to a certain extent. Cowinkydink or not, a patern exists. I choose to call it targeting, you can call it whatever you like.
  3. Alot better than being handed minutes in the CHL. Having a guy like Podz get the old school treatment should curb entitlement when he gets here.
  4. I have to completely agree. The cherry was Boesers signing. JV gave me some sprinkles when he spotted two against the flames. It's only preseason, but it still feels good.
  5. This is the toughest team iced in Vancouver in a long time. Ferland, Miller, Rousell, McEwan are all tough players that will drop the mits. Beagle, Pearson, Benn Myers and Bo are guys that are tough, strong and will occasionally drop the mits. Virtanen needs to play pissed off. The Big Tuna needs to play like a Big Asshole to opposing teams. Just like Big Bert did. But he has the tools to be a tough player. Our toughest player in many ways is Ep40. The death stare says it all. The skinny kid plays way bigger than he is. He bites back. I suspect Quinn Hughes will be the same. So scrums will develop on plays where Ep40 and Qh43 push back. Then players who are either tough, strong or both will be rushing in to protect these guys. Goldy won't be the winger for Brock and Ep40 anymore. Ferland won't hug another player when someone tries to run Ep40. This is why I like Myers with Hughes. Qh43 is going to embarrass veteran NHLers on a nightly basis. Guys are going to take runs at him. Those meatheads might think twice if a 6'7 giant player may be skating over to sort things out. Like Trymakin, Myers size alone can injure a player. He's not a big fighter, but he could throw you across the room in anger without question. Could we get tougher, sure. But we just got alot tougher. Let's see how this works out prior to adding even more players.
  6. Season hasn't started yet. Was thinking last night about this. Who does LE beat out of the top 9 wingers. Brock... nope Baer .... nope Miller .... nope Ferland ... nope Pearson.... unlikely to nope. Virtanen unlikely to nope Goldy. Personally I keep him as an extra player vs LE. Sutter can play wing and does well at it. Gaudette is better, younger and plays center. He is waiver protected, so he could go without a loss. That's 9 guys over LE. Could LE fit into our 4th line? I don't see it. Motte is better, Lievo is better, Rousell is injured, but better. McEwan is earning a shot and better for a 4th line roll. Schaller, LE could beat Schaller out for a 4th line spot. That's it. That's what LE has become. No one is trading for this guy unless we retain max cap and throw in Gaudette. I say screw that deal.. My money is on LE being waived. Maybe he can get loaned to a Euro club. Chicago pulled that off. It may be the quiet solution that nullifies the Luongo deal. Beyond that, who does LE beat off our roster. Maybe he squeaks into a 4th line roll. That's purely on merit. Do you send down a younger player with forcastable growth vs a declining vet that is declining hard, solely on contract status? LE is waived, he can collect his cheque and ride a bus and live in Utica. I don't think he will report. This golden ticket could end up being bad for him too. Waiting for the press conference with him saying his contract sucks. Unless he can be loaned out, IMO he will be sent down and quit. Then he either gets a resigned a redeemer deal by another team or goes back to Europe.
  7. Move the AHL team to Halifax. Great city. Close to home for me. Haha
  8. Vancouver has done a good thing in Utica. While having the farm team down the road would be a big hit, would the flames swap franchises.
  9. Gotta say, JV is such a let down. Green made him an example and he is the goat at camp. Was ready to have a good pre season, sitting back without alot of controversy. Now Brock is a hold out and Jake is ready for camp. Contract stuff is normal. Having a 4 year pro regress after so much work has been spent on him is not okay.
  10. No. We can poke fun without bringing a convicted pedophile into the thread.
  11. Way before my time. But granted, Hughes has two comparables, both were here for short periods of time decades ago. Hopefully Hughes has more staying power.
  12. Agreed. Love MacEwan. Heart and soul kinda player.
  13. Those are the numbers being tossed around in the rumour mills.
  14. The team and player are not far apart. 4 for 7 vs 6 for 7. Split the difference and do 5 for 7. They both feel like they are giving something up. Sounds like a good deal from where I sit.
  15. As long as no one runs Ep40 or Hughes, I am fine. Like that Ferland pushed Goldy out of the way in scrimmage. He is getting his game face on early. 217lbs... never thought he was that big.
  16. For sure. Reinhart would have been better appreciated had he spent more time here. It is telling how much we need Hughes when his only comparison in our club history is Reinhart.
  17. Its almost like JV is putting JB into a spot to have to deal him.
  18. He is adapt at lifting sticks and stealing pucks. With his skating and IQ, I don't think he will be a liability defensively, but he will get out muscled when his bag if tricks isn't an option. If the puck lands on his stick, it's going the other way.
  19. I would say he has the makings of being better than Reinhart.
  20. Cup run had prime Edler, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Salo, Erhoff, Tanev. That is the deepest defence we have had. This team has some good young horses and some quality vets to become something special. Currently, we aren't there.
  21. What's this Ferland vs Lucic. Ferland is a Burrows/Rousell style player that gets in the odd fight. Let's have Myers get into it with Lucic. Now that is something I would get popcorn for.
