Cap be screwed Someone would take Sutter off our hands. LE needs to retire or produce. I would take either atm. Not advocating a deal, but having two players with the pedigree of JV and Risto, they could both use a change of scenery in some ways. Deals like that happen all the time. -
Single Hog, not plural. Got it. Guess it would be Swinelander if it was plural.

Green is needling the guy. Get the big guy fire up and make him work for.it. Alot folks jumping on Jake. Fair enough. Don't think for one moment he is getting waived. Sooner or later he could be dealt for a player in a similar situation. Risto for JV anyone? -

No way Virtanen clears waivers. -
Okay, mispoke, how about contact, game shape, its skating with Jake pushing against you. How does OJ handle getting hit. Lots of things that flow in the same direction. Players coming back off injury and surgery are generally eased into full speed games.

Yup. Just got power back after hurucaine Dorion. A bit cabin happy at the moment.

4 or 5 guys on our current roster have or are doing it right now. JV, Bo, Rousell, Motte and Schaller. Obviously Schaller is weak, Bo is a smaller sample size, but they all got the criteria. So is it normal to struggle in your first year pro, yes. Is it the average experience, maybe not, but it is certainly common. Does it bode well for the prospect to struggle, no. Can they still turn things around, yes. Kicking it back to Hogslander. He isn't going to struggle. The kid is a fitness beast and could probably start his own NHL off season training camp. The difference between Hogslander and our CHL alumni is that he us already playing against men. Ditto for Podz. Podz would be playing 20 plus minutes a night in the CHL racking up points and destroying everything in his way. Easy. Looking at JV and Gads, two guys that play a similar physical game, they both coasted thru CHL hockey, only to struggle adjusting that physical brand to competition that could do it back to them. Skill is a premium atm, Hogslander would likely be in our top six based on skill alone atm. Not bad for a 2nd rounder.

You know what's funny IHT, I didn't have to look up any stats to pick 4 guys off our current roster without thinking. So it's not rare. It's just less likely than making the NHL with AHL rookie pt totals above. 4ppg. BTW, Sutter played 12 games, Bo played 5, small sample size meet small sample size. Since both Lind and Gads had some legit issues IE injuries and and in Gads case, he wasn't prepared mentally and/or physically for the toughness of the AHL. Let's say that these areas are addressed in the off season and both players come in healthy and ready for this year. They both surpass the .4ppg mark and maybe by wide margin. Based on your premise, neither will make the NHL, cause it's their rookie season that matters statistically and only the rookie year. They could both go on to have 60pt seasons and not be anymore likely, by your premise, to make the NHL. Doesn't that sound a bit ridiculous? 'Thump.' That's the sound of a mic dropping...

Jake is a team guy. He hasn't been handed anything since his rookie year and he is a legit pro player.

Pettersson has the best interviews I have seen in a long while. He is confidence personified. He is Bieksian in his comments. The kid has it guys. He just has it.
-
Loui looks like he is ready to party, or is at a party lounging every time he was on the ice last year. Let's hope hockey gets in the way this year.

Wade Redden says hi!

Fair points. It's not like Eriksson hasn't earned enough to live very well for the rest of his life. People are strange around money. I think he could lose some friends in Sweden if he decides to cash cheques and tarnish is some way the Sedins legacy. He was brought here to play with them and because of their connection to each other.

Plan B! Plan B is plan Brock Boeser! Brock will sign, you know he will sign, even if he has to be helped to the ice, he'll sign!. Brock also has huge family issues atm that are more important than hockey. With all respect to Brock and his family, we don't know how that situation is affecting the timing of any signing. It is far easier to have the media hound JB and JP Barry about Brocks contract than having the media ask questions about personal and family issues at news conferences. Even if they use their, 'I know this is a bad question, but I have to ask it, so I will use my sincere tone of voice.' I wouldn't read too much in at this point. Brock is a Canuck and unless I am completely off on my impressions of his character, he will be one this year too.

Whaaaaa? That's a bit of a strange POV IMO. A wee bit tinfoily hat leaning IMO. In fairness to the premise, that's not what I have been saying. What we have is depth on defence. That's not something we could say since the 2011 team in some ways. Depending on the development, say it with me, the development of key players. Namely Hughes, OJ and Woo. Hughes is next level and there is absolutely no indication that he needs seasoning at this point. OJ is recovering from surgery and has been off the ice for over half a year. He has been training his ass off, yes. But he hasn't been able to skate. Skating is a horrible thing for joints. Lots of smaller and less used muscle fibres have to be used that say running or cycling. He was unable to use those particular exercises for some time. It may, may take him some time to get back up to speed and beyond where he was when he last hit the ice. The Club can give him that time. That's a good thing for everyone. What's even better is that OJ doesn't need that time and exceeds all likely expectations. That would be &^@#ing great. One other point. Hughes. I also think that Hughes needs a solid veteran d partner. Maybe we should see if Green is ready a willing to add two rookie d men in the same season or at the same time. Green may prefer to start with Hughes, who is more ready, and then add OJ. This team is a evolving and yet to be determined how everyone fits together. Alot of changes and coaches tend to rely on those that have already proven they can be relied on.

Bravo sir or bravo person... Tip of the hat and a slow clap of respect. Side note; Can the pre season start already, the CDC is getting loopy again.

Bo horvat, since your including small sample sizes, Jake Virtannen, Rousel, Burrows (who, God forbid was an ECHLer) etc. Alot of players you haven't mentioned have become successful NHLers without scoring above .4 pts per game. One critical point you have always failed to show is players that have made it. If you want to prove that it is 'rare' then show me how 'rare' it is. The players you list all prove that scoring above .4 ppg improves your odds of becoming an NHLer. Your hypothesis is not that, but how 'rare' it is to becoming even a 4th liner without scoring above .4ppg. Look, if you argue that it's better odds, statistically, that a player becomes a successful NHLer if they score. 4 ppg in their rookie year in the AHL, absolutely no arguements. But that's not your premise. All you are showing me is the obvious. You need to prove the opposite point to prove your fundamental point. It's your fundamentalist wording. You speak in certain terms. There are plenty of examples of players scoring above .4 ppg and not making the NHL. Just as there are plenty of examples of players not scoring .4ppg and making the NHL. Added to that, so much more has to be factored. Two off the top are what age the player is when coming into the AHL and how good the team was that they played with. Does Gads have it in him to become a top 6 player like some of us hoped at his draft? Not looking good, for sure, but not certain, cue Burrows. He was a late 2nd rounder and has the make up of being able to be a good bottom six player if his skating can be improved. Fair chance of seeing this happen, not likely, absolutely not certain. Lind, higher pick, bigger expectations for sure. Disappointing first season. No doubt. Some silver linings in that grey sky, he was injured early (so was Gads I think) and in the final 3rd of the season he had noticable improvements. Other factors. Utica had a pop gun offence that could only be lifted with personal moves IMO. Who was going to play with Lind? Dahlen? Lind showed that he can be the primary producer on a depleted team in the CHL. That's alot to expect from him at the AHL with a depleted offence as a rookie. He isn't Ep40, who did that for us at the NHL. Can Lind become a top six player in the NHL, uncertain. Willing to give him a but more time prior to making a judgement. Does Lind have the tools to be a middle six player in the NHL, fair. Some similarities to how Jake faired in his earlier pro days. Mostly about unmet expectations. Sure. We are talking about young players developing into pro players or not. Maybe as a group, we should avoid writing them off too soon. Just my point of view.
-
I see the pairings as Hughes Myers Edler Stecher Benn Tanev Fattenburg Beiga This order doesn't represent playing time, but zone starts. Offensive d, Hughes and Myers are most likely the best choice. Two way middle pairing, Edler and Stecher are a good pairing. Can do a bit of everything. Benn and Tanev can be the shut down pairing. A mostly defensive pairing. Minutes would be determined mostly by match ups and zone starts.
-
Agreed. Biega can sit for weeks and step back in and play to a bottom pairing without any lag. Our young guys need playing time above all. I don't want to see OJ sitting in the press box.
-
^ Disagree. OJ needs reps, lots of reps to get 'game shape'. He will get more reps in Utica. It could be a 2 week conditioning stint. Once he has enough reps in without any issues with his knee, then bring him up if he is top six ready. Having OJ play up to 25-30 min a night in Utica is a good thing for his development if he can handle it.
-
You are the one making the claim, so you need to "prove it". That's how it works. Asking me to 'prove' a negative is disingenuous. Just to make it easy for you, look at players this team developed and you could make the journey short. Also if you mean no 'star players' vs players it could make it easier. Maybe differ between top line, second line etc...
-
Nope, not even close.
-
I wanted Hague too. Big d man that racked a lot of points and has a mean streak. Can't have enough d men in the system. Picking Woo in the second the following draft have me some relief. Lind was injured and finished way, way better.

Having rookies struggle to adjust to Pro hockey is normal. Hogslander is already playing pro hockey. CHL is amateur and against players the same age. It's a huge jump, especially for those that relied more on strength and size vs skill and speed. Folks on this board focus way too much on first year pro players failings. Failing is part of development and this year will show whether Gads and Lind learned from their shortcomings. If Hogslander was to play in Utica, he would be a key influence by adding skill to the lineup. Something we hoped Dahlen would do last year. Hogslander's fitness and work ethic are on a whole other level. Don't think we would have nearly the same issues.
