OJ has an ideal skill set for our team. Injuries had affected him, but those injuries are common in guys physically growing while playing contact sports. Not one injury is a long term worry IMO. Shutting him down last year was a smart move. Give his body time to finish growing. I expect him to push into a roster spot by the end of this season.

Patrick Kane. Hate to say it. These are just comparable players, not one player in the league is as dynamic as Bure. Before Bure, the other player that was as dynamic was also nicknamed the 'Rocket' too.

Thanks, Appreciate the info. I am not as familiar with the KHL.

Zegras and Podz are completely different players. Hughes and Podz are completely different players. Podz needs to improve aspects of his game, so does Zegras and Hughes. This is all accurate and Podz hopefully stays on one team this year. Playing with pros and learning the pro game from Datsyuk cant be a bad thing. Podz needs to have a stable learning environment IMO. Provided he isnt bounced between many leagues and teams, we can get a full assessment of his game. Podz is not billed as a line driver but as a very good, complete complimentary player that does all the heavy work. As I see it, he is a guy that can provide the muscle, forecheck and net pressure that frees up players like Ep40, Boeser, Baer and Horvat to focus on scoring. This is a team need, maybe not as much now, but he is a type of player you need and has a game that is made for the NHL playoffs. Of all the players taken in the first, Podz never got settled into one team. That he appears to have stuck on a very good KHL team at 17 is remarkable.

With both Vasily and Jake, it's the mental side of the game that needs to be worked on. Jake is my breakout candidate for this season. More out of necessity than anything. Both have physical gifts, but with Jake its speed, with Vasily its power. Whatever is holding Jake back from engaging in the PF game isnt going to hold Vasily back. Vasily is a coach's player, similar to Horvat. Vasily is a 200ft player where Jake had to learn that game. Whether Vasily can be an offensively productive player at the NHL level is open to debate, but at 10, he was a great selection.

Oops. My bad. Thanks for the polite correction.

How this applies to a rookie if he was to make the russian team on a ELC is a completely different scenario. Podz can be sent down to the AHL without waivers. He could be loaned to the Russian WJC team without an issue. So why would it be different for a ELC player to go for 3 weeks and come back with club permission?

I know his cap hit is fixed, but the dollars wouldn't be. To a team owned by a tightwad like say Melnyk could want a player with a high cap hit as long as he doesn't have to pay full cash dollars for him. Once the deal was inked, the cap hit was fixed. Beyond that who actually pays hom the actual cash to Eriksson can be more complicated. The 8m bonus paid july 1st leaves x dollars to be paid, less than his cap hit.
-
Didn't think Eriksson would be bought out this year. If a team just has to pay his salary and needs to add cap, then he is a serviceable player that could bounce back with a change of scenery. He would cost nothing to aquire and can be relayed upon to be a good two way guy and responsible. Next season that team could buy him out and not face the same hit as Vancouver would

[Signing] Rangers re-sign Jacob Trouba
Phat Fingers replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Let Myers do the heavy lifting on a Hughes Myers pairing. He should see an uptick in production just playing with Hughes, another uptick getting more ice time and better linemates. Myers is a money puck signing. A secondary guy playing behind others that got the better ice time and zone time. Vancity has a solid middle tier defence with our mix. Depending on Hughes could be a risky plan, being a rookie and all, but I see him as the catalyst that takes our team to the next level. IMO Hughes, Quinn, not Jack, could be in a position to run away with the Calder. The position he is going to be in, is primed to succeed. With the trade price and the cap hit, Myers is better value than Trouba IMO. Never thought the Jets would lose both at the same time. -
For us, but if seeing as he just got his garuantee 8m bonus July 1st... whomever takes over the contract gets a buyout friendly deal as we have already taken the hit.
-
Do not know. I don't know why the league would prevent individual players from playing in the tourney. Before the pro status was the issue, players should be able to go with club permission. This would be no different from letting young players go to the WJC.
-
The Nucks could let him participate on their own w/o league approval. Just ''demote' him to the AHL for the Olympics and let him go. He would be a rookie and not subject to waivers. This should be easy and in Podz interest and good for his development. That way he doesn't get roped into an extension for 2-3 years like Trymakin

Gads has this year to bounce back. Same with Lind. Keppen is a beast and drives play. Gads doesn't and didn't drive play. Let's see what happens with Gads this season. He likely had very specific areas to work on. As for faking big guys. We need big guys. We need complimentary players for EP40 and Bo. Guys that play the right way and can support the line drivers. This team has taken a number of shots at the PF type player, this draft shows how high a priority it is for JB. Podz is a PF player. A 200ft PF. Keppen was forecasted as Podz 2.0 in a scouting report I read. That JB drafted both is telling.

No thanks.... unless Crosby is coming here.

Have to be good to be lucky.

Agreed. Keeping Tanev would be better than trading him, then to have to add another similar d man if we were playoff bound. No playoffs, no problem, fleece TO.

(Poll) who is more valuable to the Canucks this year, Sutter or LE?
Phat Fingers replied to Pete M's topic in Canucks Talk
Who voted for LE????? -
Stecher is good insurance. He is not a first pairing guy, but a good number 4/5 guy that can play up and down the lineup. He could be a number 3 guy if things all line up. Remember our defence was a tire fire last year. Being a 'top pairing guy' on that defence isn't a big accomplishment. As for value. 3 to 4 m depending on this year. He doesn't get injured and stays on track, I would have no problem with him signing a 4m deal. Not expansion protected.

Losing a 3rd to lose Lucic is an accomplishment. A 3rd rounder can be recouped easily. Edmonton saves 3 years of Lucic and Neal could bounce back. If Neal does return to scoring, he will get more than a 3rd at the TDL. Could Edmonton actually have sorted out its management issues? As for LE. Giving up a mid to late pick to lose his salary, even with some retained is a win. We could take someone else back, I would even add salary to make it work, if the player coming back was able to play. A Bobby Ryan for Eriksson deal for example. Whatever happens, it wont be pretty. We have other guys that can also be dealt. Sutter is one, Schaller the other. JB balked at moving Gaudette reportedly. Gaudette could pass Sutter on the Depth chart. IMO, all 3 make a very expensive 5th line. Schaller Sutter Eriksson, 12.2m for our 5th line.... damn son, that's a problem.

4 years of Lucic. Not a buy out friendly deal. At least there us only 3 years of Loui. He also got an 8 m bonus, making it a buyout friendly deal. Not apples to apples.
-
I would have taken 1 year of Neal to be rid of Eriksson. Eriksson should be easier to deal after his bonus pay out. Fingers crossed.
