[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
Phat Fingers replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I don't think his value is high, just don't think we need to retain salary to move him. We can only retain salary for 3 players, Baer is low down on my list for being shipped out. I would rather retain salary for Sutter or Erikssin -
[Signing] Marcus Johansson to Buffalo. 2 year $4.5 AAV
Phat Fingers replied to qwijibo's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
We could have exactly what they need. Retain 50% of Sutters deal with Tanev for Risto and a pick. If we could somehow convince Tanev and Sutter to waive. -
[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
Phat Fingers replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Why would we retain any of Baer's salary? He has value, even with his questionable injury history. Give him 30 games to see if he ca get his game back. Baer is a legit top 6 LW if healthy. A healthy Baer is going to be cheaper than any other option. -
[Rumour] Laine in "deep talks" with Montreal
Phat Fingers replied to Baer.'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I figured Lou and the Isles would have gone after Mathews with and offer sheet. Lou knows the Leafs better than the Leafs know the Leafs. Shanahan signed an offer sheet when he played for Lou, so turnaround is fair play. -
[Speculation] Tanev possibly being shopped

IDK. I believe making the playoffs might be a bigger need than asset management. Tanev might be lost for nothing. Lots of time between now and the TDL. -
[Speculation] Tanev possibly being shopped
Phat Fingers replied to dontaylorforprez's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
With the new additions, I don't see any better FA options to Tanev out there. Unless the club is confident that Raferty or Woo is ready now. I dont see it and I think if Tanev is moved it would be at the TDL. For his cap hit and what he brings, I could see the club keeping him if it looks like we are playoff bound. -
[Signing] Canucks sign Justin Bailey
Phat Fingers replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Sarcasm... I am going to the one in my ridiculously small town in Nova Scotia. It's nick name is the "Little Vatican". It's this week there will be about a 1000 men in kilts marching down the street playing bag pipes... that's at least close right? Again, sarcasm... I would kill to see a pride parade in this town, it's so ready for it. -
Even then we need the skill. Luckily we have the skill. Glad the team wants to protect its players. Hoping that Quinn and Elias really click with the new additions as buddies. Imagine some Ferland type player taking a run at Myers best bud Hughes. Myers might not fight often, but I wouldn't want a fit NHL d man pissed off at me but if that same dude is 6'8" 230lbs, &^@# no. This is the culture change I have been wanting since the SCF. I always thought two things, first had Danny dropped the mits with Marchand, we would have won the series. Secondly, if we were being set up as villains by the media and Boston and the league is going to tilt the scales, then be the villain. We would have still lost, but it would have been at least cathartic.

[Proposal] Boeser for Marner
Phat Fingers replied to Statman's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Khay, Good assessment. One thing, I dont see Marner pushing us into cap trouble. Marner, Nylander, Taveres and Mathews would. We are adding Ep40, Hughes etc. Gradually. As we face expiring ELC's as we have expiring contracts with veterans. Added to that we also have a decent pipeline of new ELC's coming on line in all positions that can off set those expiring veteran contracts. Provided we continue to add forcastable prospects to our system every second draft moving forward we should be able to keep the pipeline open. We have the GM to find the prospects, let's see if he has finally figured out how to make trades and sign free agents. -
[Proposal] Boeser for Marner
Phat Fingers replied to Statman's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Not an bad idea. Chemistry is a big deal and Marner Bo and OJ all came out of the same system. Marner is the better player, Brock is the more economically sound player. I would not add at all, straight up. We could do a sign and trade. It is a time to look at Laine, Marner, Aho and see what's there. Brock is in the same league, but to teams right against the cap, he could be a better fit. For the record I don't want to trade Brock. I see him as a 40g guy in his prime. But I could say the same about Marner, Laine and Aho. Trade for Laine.and then add Poolparty somehow and reunite the Finnish WJC team. -
Exactly. Podz is a beast. A Miller Horvat Podz line as our second line in a playoff series with Edler and Myers as a 5 man unit. That line will wear out a team.

We have had luck with our 5th rounders. As for guys that went undrafted at least once, we have has luck with them too. Burrows, Tanev and Trymakin. Looks like Focht was scouted and the team knows what they are getting. Love under the radar guys that exceed expectations. Funny seeing people doubt this pick with Gaudette on our roster this year.

The 9 game limit can be overly focused on. Driasitl was sent back down after 40 games. With our new improved d core, 9 games spread out would be great for Woo. Give him a taste of the NHL experience. He should finish out his jr career after. WJC and Memorial cup play. Then into the AHL system. Woo can push for a spot next year.

Just how were his stats inflated? Cause he produced at a lower rate the previous year. Stat watching can work with some players but Woo isn't one of them. Dig deeper on his pre draft year to understand his stats better and you wont think his d +1 season is so inflated. Woo would have gone much higher if he had not gotten injured. His team was forced to add d men as result via trade and Woo had a different role when he returned to the ice.

Instant gratification Cyoung. Calgary got their shiny new toy and Vancouver has to wait.

I am glad Hutton is gone. Between his departure and Pouliot's I see this team as improved.

Barrie joining our group for free. This team is becoming good enough to push into the top end FA market by next season. This is a good idea. Thinking about the big picture. With Hughes and Stecher already, Barrie would make our d core pretty slight for the western conference. It's too early to predict whether Woo could be a viable call up next year, but reasonable. If Barrie was added after Tanev leaves, well I would think we would be trading Stecher. I am in favour of signing Trymakin when he is free from the KHL. Whether you love him, hate him or are just confused by him, 6'8" 230 lbs d men that are mobile do have value in this league. The only way to get that out of Trymakin either thru trade or playing him is to get him under contract. Hughes Barrie Edler Myers OJ Trymakin Benn Woo. That's a d core that is playoff worthy.

This came up in the post draft discussion with the pundits. The thread was that he wasn't likely to get out of his deal very easily, something about his club being hard to negotiate with, but that he 'could' be able to move be the end of next season as it is a 12 month process. It is possible. Whether Podz, the Nucks and St Petersburg agree to it.

Walking away from Hutton is a good indication that newcomers are expected on the left side.

There has been talk that he could buyout the last year of his deal.

[Signing] Tyler Myers to Vancouver
Phat Fingers replied to Rush17's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
We can tandem our top lines. Baer and Bo, Ep40 and Brock. Their wingers can be shifted around based on how Green is feeling and who clicks. We can even throw Sutter and Gaudette into the mix and Miller. We will get injuries, as always, but our depth is getting much stronger, and get even better by the seasons end. I predict that both Madden and Lockwood sign. Lind takes the next step to becoming a top line AHLer. Gads shows that he can be an AHL regular. OJ shows that the AHL is not a challenge. Trymakin returns after his season is done. Like adding a good d man at the deadline for free. Podz comes over too! -
He is also getting schooled by guys like Datsyuk etc as he plays on the KHL. Pro level, NHL level coaching which he soaks up like a sponge. Very Bo like. He could be in the hunt for a Calder as early as next year. Would love to see a line with him, Gaudette and Madden. That would be a very frustrating line to play against. Our 3rd line next year??? Why not!

Ranked 5th by THN. Hoglander ranked 28th, Keppen ranked 85th. JB took guys that all play the right way that fell for some reason or another. It was a wild draft were teams individual rankings carried wildly after the top 2. I like that the guy JB and Brackett wanted to fall to their second pick did. Podz was luck, Hoglander was the sought after player for our group this draft. A late Birthday, already playing in the SHL as a 17 y/o. Last year the 17 y/o playing in the SHL went first over all. Not saying that Hoglander is anything near as good but there is only one player I have ever witnessed juggling while riding a unicycle prior to Hoglander. So we have a Dahlin/Pettersson hybrid??? Ha!

9 games extended then back to jr for, then the WJC and a memorial cup run. Then to the AHL playoffs.
