  1. Yeah, always liked Simmonds, but that is a trend line that doesn't bode well. Miller is a similar player but likely will get better with production with Ep40 or Bo as his center.
  2. Isnt Miller older than JV? So one would hope that Miller takes JB under his wing show him how it's done.
  3. How is this thread at 40 pages? We all need to pit our devices down and go outside.
  4. Possible but we wouod have to move salary out. If Sutter could be moved for a conditional 7th rounder in 2020, I would gladly shed his spot and add a Ferlund type player for a shorter term. No joke. If JB can shed one of Eriksson or Sutter. Win, sign Ferlund and Maroon. &^@# it, throw a party while he is at it with life sized pinatas of all the media pundits and sell tickets.
  5. Good points. It is hard to shift a mind set with the speed of this off season so far. Alot of players on the move. 4 years ago this team made the titanic look sea worthy by comparison, there was more holes than whole in our line up. Now we have some cracks. Jason Megna isnt our first line RW anymore... we have players in positions they can play. Now it's about chemistry and making improvements here and there. Peoples reactions haven't adjusted to the less dire future.
  6. Agreed. Podz is close to NHL ready now. The Myers signing is fair value with a good term and no expansion protection. Absolute win. He got a 9% raise and likely turned down better money to play in Van. Benn, Oscar round out a new support cast for our defence. We kept Edler. Jb signed 3 of the top six available FA defenders in Edler Myers and Benn. By losing Granlund, Hutton and Pouliot the salary increase is minimal. Let's compare to last year. 2018 Edler, 5m, Tanev 4.45, Guddy 4m, Stecher 2.33, Hutton 2.8m, Del Zotto 3m, Pouliot 1.1m, Beiga 825k. Just under 24m m for that d lineup. 2019 Edler 6m, Myers 6m, Tanev 4.45, Stecher 2.33, Benn 2m, Hughes 925k, Fatteburg 825k, Biega 825k, OJ 925k 24m give or take. Our total cap hit on defence is about 1m higher than last year at this point. Guddy, Hutton, Del Zotto and Pouliot cost us 10.9m Myers, Benn, Hughes and Fattenburg cost us less than 10m. I know which group I take. Big win for the nucks this FA period. Good work JB. Think he had a plan. BTW the pundits also failed to mention that we lost 3m in cap space. JB knew prior to the draft or had a strong idea. That's why the nucks backed off Subban at his full cap hit. We lost out on Subban partnered with Hughes due to the cap recapture penalty and Florida. Damn.
  7. Getting a 1st round pick back in a trade is also possible. It's a long way off and deals happen all the time. This team already has it's new core. Ep40, Hughes, Demko, Bo, Brock and possibly others are the new core. This was brought up by both Myers and Benn. We are coming in to help the younger players. 4 years of complied talent is coming into the system. Real talent. This group is the best group of young talent I have ever witnessed as a fan going back to the 82 run. When Quinn brought in Ronning, Linden Courtnal, Bure, Maclean and others, it was a great team. This group is far better as a whole. Dido for the Naslund and Sedin era's. People talk about how much Ep40 is the best young player in club history, but we have another guy that has out scored the best center in club history at the same age, Bo Horvat has better numbers than Henrik did at the same age. Henrik also had the west coast Express in full form ahead of him in the lineup. We have never had a defender like Hughes, Brock could become a perennial 30g guy even 40g player. We aren't Ottawa depending on Karlssons ankles only to have another players wife send the star packing in the year they have away their 1st rounder. They train wrecked before the season started this year. I am surprised that they played as well as they did. If that whole drama had not happened, Ottawa is a completely different team and unlikely to have been in the top 10. Real life puck bunnies...
  8. Whereas I don't have a problem with the trade, especially in sight of the FA signings. IMO as soon as Vancouver backed off Subban, the Miller deal went forward. JB had Myers in his back pocket. With Miller, it's all about his cap hit and what he brings with it. Remember JB knew that Luongo was retiring. That extra 3 m cap hit took Vancouver out of a few deals, like Subban and or Lee. Put a good young two way PF with 7 years NHL experience on Ep40's wing and Brocks wing. A few things are going to happen, Millers production is going to increase. No brainer, Miller is saddling up along side a generational player. Or at Vancouvers closest player to be called that. Ep40 isn't going to get run nearly as much. Miller plays and edgy game. He will provide push back. Plus in many ways, Ep40 is his ticket to big big money on his next contract. Miller will have extra motivation. Miller is resilient and has a good track record in games played. This takes pressure off of Baer. With Miller getting 1st line minutes, Baer can skate with Bo and Pearson. Since both lines offer a great blend of size, skill, speed, 2 way and offence, which one does the other team focus on? If Miller can absorb those tougher minutes, Baer might make thru 3/4 of a season. Plus Bo would have an actual top.6 player as a winger. With the FA signings plus Hughes and are Goalies getting better with Marky and Demko starting the year vs Markt and Nielsen. Ae are going to see a big swing in the stats. Zone exits are going up, zone entries are going up, our possession time is going up, our giveaways are decreasing, Defensive scoring is going up Our PP is going to get better We will spend less time in the sin bin. Our GAA will decrease Our GF will.increase and I predict that our man games lost will decrease... Now that may mean we don't win one more game then last season, but looking at the western conference, we have moved the needle. Is it enough... maybe, maybe not. But I would say that JB made a good deal.
  9. JB said that he is still looking for another forward. IDK how we can still be adding forwards... Maroon is an option, but I think he wants to stay in St Louis. Either way, we have alot of forwards. Miller Ep40 Boeser Pearson Horvat Baer Leivo Gaudette Virtannen Rousell Sutter Motte Goldy Beagle Schaller Eriksson McEwan I am sure I am missing at least one guy. Gone Gaunce, Granlund and Spooner. Schaller could be AHL bound. Eriksson should just be sent home. Miller Ep40 Boeser Our 1st is improved with Miller. Possesses all the ingredients to be a damn good line. Baer and Miller are interchangeable as to the situation. Baer Horvat Pearson. Two players that Bo has shown chemistry with. Our second line is a good blend of size skill two way play. If Pearson regresses, move up Virtannen. Rousell Gaudette Virtannen I like this line with Rousell skating with Gaudette and Virtannen. Two younger guys that can learn from a vet how to agitate and be abrasive. Be a great line if the chemistry is there. Leivo Beagle Motte. Energy line. All 3 play a good 2 way game and should get the odd goal. McEwan Schaller Eriksson Goldy and Sutter. Some are depth, some are dead weight. 2 have to be moved. With Beagle, Miller, Gaudette, Horvat and Ep40, maybe Sutter can be dealt. IMO Eriksson is going to be a hard contract to trade. Sutter still has value as a player and we can retain 1m Unless we can move out 2 guys, I see no room to add a forward. Plus, Boeser needs to.be signed.
  10. I hope not. Adding dead salary is a dumb move and I dont see Lucic as a playable option anymore. He isnt the indimadating player either. Eriksson was bad, bit Lucic would be worse. Taking back some salary or retaining with Eriksson is expected, adding term should be a last resort.
  11. 8.7 left and Boeser need to be signed. A few more contracts need to be shed. Eriksson and Sutter need to be offloaded. Heck pay out a pick if need be. JB has found a way to rid himself of other mistakes, if he can end those two, we will be home and hosed.
  12. Getting in before it happens.... now that is what you get living on the east coast a 4 hour head start. The leaks have sprung across the league. I have already had 3 cups of coffee... Reports have Myers at 6m for 5 years and Benn for 2m over 2 years. Not official, but no where do I say official. If it doesn't happen, I get the mulligan and hang my head in shame. Thems the breaks.
  13. It's the day we have all been waiting for. It's the annual Free Agent Frenzy. We love it and hate it, but now let's tall about what our GM has done for this club in this the opening minutes of the Frenzy. What does Tyler Myers and Jordie Benn do for the 2019 Vancouver Canucks? To first answer that, we have to look at the players. Myers is a giant, in the mold of Chara and Pronger in size only. He doesn't have the IQ and mean streak of either Norris winner, but is Vancouver looking to add a Norris winner this year? well kinda but not. They did attempt to add Subban, but 9m was way too steep for the highly regarded but potentially declining d man. But they found Myers. Myers has been a solid NHL player for a number of years, recently completing a 82 game and 80 game season in the Peg. He was sidelined for some long term issues around his hip and his son's health. From the games played in the last 2 years, safe to say that that is not a current issue. Having a guy who can step in and eat minutes is a huge need for Vancouver. Myers is good for 20 plus minutes a night. He is mobile but does struggle at times in his own end. He has produced very well in a secondary roll with the Jets, he put up good numbers offensively in Buffalo. So he should be good for 30 to 35 pts while being a decent middle pairing defender. That's his floor. Beyond that and the real likelyhood that Myers gets partnered with Hughes could mean very good things for both this year. Added plus if he can be the RHD on the top PP unit. If he does take that increased role in Vacouver I expect him to easily surpass his past two seasons in terms of offence. So we have added a big mobile decent two way d man with some offensive upside who has never quite lived up to expectations, who sometimes leaves fans wondering what the heck was Myers thinking with that giveaway... think RHD Edler and I would say that's about right. But we are going to pay him exactly what we pay Edler and for nearly the same expected roll and.minutes. Simply put Myers is a 6'8" 230 lbs giant of a finger in the leaking dam that is the current Canucks defence. We need him and he will make this team way, way, way more competitive than last year. How? First he will be able to reduce the wear and tear on Tanev. This is critical if JB is to keep his job, if this team is to compete for the playoffs and so He can win the JT Miller trade. A relatively Healthy Tanev means bubble team. But I also believe that a Myers Hughes Pairing will also benefit Edler in a similar fashion. By having a true top 4, we can take minutes that Hutton/Guddy couldn't handle and give them to Hughes/Myers. If both Edler and Tanev can play 70 plus games, we are a playoff team. So where does Jordie Benn fit in? He gives us what we seriously lacked in Pouliot. A bottom pairing guy that can play either side, fill in for middle pairing injuries, stay healthy and not be a liability. He and Stecher are going to be a solid pairing. Combined I see this as an improvement over the Stecher Hutton pairing, but lower cost. Less offence from the left side, but Stecher won't have to worry about his d partner taking a nap half the time. Stecher can play a more uptempo rushing game that is his strength. Last year Stecher carried his partner, this year he wont have too. So we start the season with a vastly improved d core as compared to last season. Edler and Tanev get to have solid d partners, each other and both will enjoy a reduced role. They will be our shut down pair. But they can rely on others too. So what can we see happening with Tanev this year? Tanev is up for a new contract, possibly traded near the TDL and such. With the 2 FA d men, we can expect Tanev's value to rise, but IMO this is so he can be traded. Benn makes that possible. IMO an Edler Stecher pairing is nearly as good as a Edler Tanev pairing. Because Benn can play either side, is a vet and can hold his own, OJ will have the prefect d partner to enter the league with. OJ can shake the rust off in the AHL while Tanev becomes a sought after trade item. Boom, trade Tanev for a first rounder, OJ is called up, he takes the left side with Benn shifting right and we have another solid bottom pairing. Getting Myers for 6m x 5 years is a great deal for Vancouver, Benn for 2m x 2 years is even better. Good work JB.
  14. Yup. Thanks to Ottawa they are set for the coming decade. Byram and Makar are going to be sick. WTF Ottawa, can you go $&!# yourself in your conference next time.
  15. This one has leaked out. Its the dating period. Myers was rumored to Vancouver but the numbers and term were all way off. The paperwork is all but done. So someone who works at the agency or club with access to the copy machine has the inside scoop. If true.... great signing JB 5 year term is prefect. Last years top 4 at the start of the year. Edler Tanev Hutton Guddy. This years starting top 4 Hughes Myers Edler Tanev. Now no one in our top 4 are true top pairing d atm. But it is always better to actually have 4 top 4 d men than having 2 top 4 d men at the start the year.
  16. All good points. One question, what negativity regarding Sutter. Was he complaining about the team or coaching? So far the only negative thing about Sutter is his inability to not be injured since coming to Vancouver. Both players have failed to live up to expectations in Vancouver. But it is very odd. Sutter was a solid center, never got hurt, or rarely. Eriksson is a 30g scorer, responsible two way guy and poof, both get good deals disappear.
  17. With myers and hopefully one more RHD and the emergence of both Highes and OJ, we could make the playoffs. I would hate to be up against a young dynamic team with nothing to lose and goaltending. Myers relieves pressure and hard minutes on Tanev. This in theory will reduce the wear and tear on Tanev. Same for Hughes and Edler. I would expect that the Hughes pairing will be our top pairing by mid season. That puts the Edler pairing as a second pairing. Huge deal for Vancouver. If OJ can come into his own, then that also further reduces the pressure and dependence on Edler. Keeping Edler and Tanev healthy is a smart goal for this season. If we can get 70+ games out of both, with them not being injured at the exact same time this season, we are a bubble team. After that, it's all about who gets hot and who goes cold.
  18. Odd, Myers is a very serviceable top 4 rhd with a large frame. Something we currently lack completely. As of this minute, we have Tanec, Stecher and Woo on the right side. Schenn is been rumored to go elsewhere and can this team survive next year without a top 4 rhd addition? Myers can either play until he is 35 or retire. Same for Gardiner. Both have imperfections and need d partners that can cover off their weak areas. That's normal. The team can handle a 6 to 6.5 per year deal with 5 to 6 years. Adding a legit top 4 d man along with Hughes would give Vancouver 4 actual top 4 d men. Radical. It's either sign one or two, draft them, trade for them or live without. You can have 2 of the following 3 things, cheap, good or fast. If it's good and cheap it wont be fast. Non top 3 draft picks. If it's good and fast it wont be cheap. Trades. Trades cost the most in terms of assets. We could trade for a top d man, pay up. Oh and have a bigger cap hit on top of it. If it's fast and cheap, its won't be good. Free agents. Now the issue is need over want. We desperately need a top 4 RHD. We haven't produced one thru the draft since Bieksa and Tanev (undrafted FA). Woo is 1 to 2 years away at best. So the club is going to head on down to the Walmart and compare off the shelf RHD's and they are never on sale, even at Walmart. This doesn't stop the club from still pursuing the other 3 options, but those dont come on demand. So be prepared for either Myers and or Gardiner. We have no choice and it will be an improvement over Tanev Guddy Stecher Biega and then Schenn. Oh and Poops alot played the right side too.
  19. No one saw Eriksson flopping this badly.
  20. Heck no. Not Burke. He is not the guy to help things in Vancouver.
