  1. The cap is rising, he can retire without penalty as he is 30, not 35. Myers is a sound defenseman and has a key ingredient that we need with Hughes and Stecher, he is big. Not physical, but big. With Edler, Hutton, Schenn and Myers, we have some size to work with Hughes, Stecher and Tanev. As he gets close to the end of his deal, he will still be able to play and be big. Added that, we are as good as &^@#ed if we don't add a top 4 RHD. It's a seller's market and we need to buy. Suck it up and realize that JB isnt going to make a deal with a conditional 1st and not try everything possible to make that pick as worthless as possible
  2. Tampa didnt have to rush this deal. They have until October to get their cap under. This was not a cap dump. Miller is a legit top 6 forward. Give me an example of what a top 6 forward just getting to their prime on a reasonable 4 year deal is worth? A mid to late 1st, a 3rd and a minor league goalie seems good to me. With Bo, Brock, Elias, Podz, Miller, Baer, Virtannen, Gaudette, Hogs, MacEwan, Keppen Madden, Lockwood, Gadz and Lind as our forwards Hughes, OJ, Woo, Rathbone, Stecher, Hutton, Trymakin etc as our defence Demko, Marky and Dipeitro as our goalie youth, not including anyone over 30 in the above and there are lots i missed. That is largely untapped depth coming into our system. In that group there are 4 current 20g scorers 3 all stars a Hobey Baker winner and a Calder winner. These guys are getting better and just got better. We aren't going to be relying on getting 20g out of guys like Sutter and Eriksson anymore, thank god.
  3. Provost. IMO you are also viewing this deal in isolation. There seems to be an assumption that Tampa only talked to Vancouver and that the other 30 teams all passed on Miller. That assumes that no one wanted a 26 y/o on a 4 year contract that plays all 3 forward spots,, good in the dot, good two way guy, 3 x 20 goal scorer, 218lbs and has played 82games in 4 straight years. The first is because the only other assets in the deal are a 3rd and our 5th string goalie. Do you think no other team wanted JT? Tampa wasnt taking salary back. This isnt the Marleau deal. The pick isnt likely to be as high as this years. JT would greatly improve our top 6. Our team is getting better and JB is going to build around EP40. Other teams are in steep decline. LA, Chi and Det are all now bottom feeders, Min is dropping, Edm still sucks etc... Getting a top 1O pick out of us in 2 years is very unlikely. I would trade a mid to late 1st to get a Bo 2.0 player... wouldn't you?
  4. From foundational to expendable. Injuries have impacted him. With Miller and Gaudette, Sutter is very close to being redundant.
  5. 218 lbs. Horvat has to be close to 220, add Pearson or Virtannen and that is a meaty line. Then role out Baer, EP40 and Brock as the potatoes!! Skillz galore. Tougher top.6 now with Miller. Added plus, played 82 games 4 years in a row. Scoring 20g plus 3 times. In 2 years Podz comes in... Keppen, Gadz... sounds like JB is building around Ep40. Smart move.
  6. CTP. Good assessment. I differ in a few areas. Podz.... damn son, JB hit another 1st rounder out of the park. In 5 years, he is a top 5 in any legit re draft... his falling stock was mostly due to his contract status. Signing that contract cost Podz a few million as he could be playing in NA as early as next season. Had Podz not signed that contract he would've doned another jersey on friday. The contract has nothing to do with his abilities or talents. The nucks thought he would be long gone by the time they picked. Like Hughes... we got lucky. IMO it was a foolish reason to pass on him. Sooner of later in the 1st round a club was going to benefit from this externality. As JB said, anyone we took at 10 was likely going to take at least 2 years to be a player for us, so the contract was a non issue. Is Zegras going to be a better player than Podz? Is Zegras going to be a full time NHLer before Podz? Take his contract status out of the equation and that is his true value. He was considered better than Dach and Cousins for most of the year. Brackett was targeting Hogslander in the second as his player, even though he thought Nils would.be gone in the late first. This is a Gradin/Brackett pick. Think about that. Already playing full time in the SHL. At 17. He can juggle and ride a unicycle... Very exciting. Keppen... damn son. That guy is huge, 9th rated OHLer, fantastic primary production while carrying his own line, 17 years old and still growning. Considered to be a Podz lite player for teams looking for a power forward. Costmar. Could be a epic steal. Malone... decent, Silvors.. love Latvian goalies. They are giant killers. No defenceman, but winger depth is addressed. The picks along with the Miller deal, JB has nothing to do up front but deal some guys off the team to free up.spots. no more space filling players. This indicates to me that JB must have more work laid out this offseason. He has stated that he was making changes to the defence. Now that Edler is signed, this gives JB the room to add Myers or make a deal. If a trade is needed, I would kick the tires on Zaitzev. He could.be a bottom 6 PP specialist. He would be super cheap and a nice player to help our Russian winger and wayward d man come.back. We have lots of chips and cap space to make a deal for a decent top 4 RHD and JB simply has to make improvements or he is done.
  7. Last season JB added Teves, Brogan, Hughes, Woo and Rathbone. 4 of these young guys will.be at camp. Hoping Woo gets a 9 game call up. It would do wonders for his development.
  8. I was that size at his age, playing 1st division mens rugby as a front row forward. I could bench 350 and squat 600. He could add 2 inches potentially and he would be around 200lbs. That isnt a reach. He isnt small. He is solid, plus super skilled.
  9. Zegras is a great pickup for the Ducks. IMO JB has swung for the fences with Podz. I heard the sound of the bat and he connected... Podz is coming to NA. I don't doubt it one bit. I can wait two years if need be. Give him at least one and he will come over. With the move to aquire JT, JB is making a solid move to address team needs now. He is going to add a top 4 RHD this off season. He has too. He also hasn't really handicapped his successor if things dont work out. JB missing this years playoffs is the end of him unless it's really close. If he misses this year, the club will make it next year. Too much depth coming in not too and other teams are on a serrious decline. Our up coming picks aren't likely to be better than our 10th o/a this year. BPA was the order of the day and I love our first 3 selections. The late rounder of Costmar could be an epic steal. Our winger depth is addressed. If Teves and Brogan can become solid AHLers and call up players along with OJ, Woo and Rathbone meeting expectations we do have some depth at the bottom of our defence. Hughes is a top 4 d man already, add a top 4 RHD that can play with Hughes and we will make the playoffs. Marky, Demko and Dipeitro are a great young goal tending trio. Podz will be coming into a club that is on the rise. Sick.
  10. Well this kid is just huge. Really like this pick. 17 years old too.. he hasn't stopped growing yet.
  11. Played in the SHL one year earlier than EP40, while being a smaller guy. Nowhere near the impact, but still.very impressive.
  12. Scout... so I found another swedish kid that can juggle and ride a unicycle... JB... I gotta draft that kid...
  13. Hoglander really did disappear in the 2019 NHL playoffs, never saw him once... bust.
  14. Trymakin went back due to a few things, being challenged on the ice wasnt one of them. I though he did quite well for a rookie. He wasn't outstanding, but to be that big and mobile at the same time.... any contact and the other guy is toast. He rejected a contract offer and signed a deal elsewhere. His choice. It sucked for us and I think it ultimately hurt everyone in some way. We could have used him these last 2 years.
  15. Add Miller. This is a big team all of a sudden. At least up front. Move Tanev. Bring on another d man thru FA, Myers, re sign Schenn and bring back Trymakin and we have a big mobile defence with Hughes, OJ and Stecher for the skill. Not a mean team, but big and mobile with some super skilled players to utilize their line mates. I like the new looking nucks, just need to lose the deadweight middle 6 players like Eriksson and it's a happy post/pre season.
  16. If that pick is a top 10 in 2021 then JB will be long gone. Give JB credit. They made a big deal for a solid top 6 two way winger with size. They aren't done either. They could miss this year, but not next year. The depth is being addressed with the picks of this draft. RHD, we need 1 more legit top 4. Woo, Stecher and .... Trymakin can play on the right side, Rathbone and then nada. I gotta believe that with the JT deal, JB and co have a real FA target at RHD and believe they can get him.
  17. JT could be traded for a better 1st than the one we give Tampa. He is being brought here for a top 6 spot on either Ep40's wing or Horvat's. JT's production is going to go up.
  18. Vancouver would have as much or better children's health care. The St Boniface is a great hospital, but BC children's hospital is the best pediatric center in western Canada. Someone with Myers income has real life problems, not making light, but he also has substantial means to deal with those problems.
  19. Myers isnt terrible defensively. Myers is a decent top 4 RHD. Plus he is a giant and mobile. For a team with size issues, Myers would help even things out. JB wants to address the defence as he should. He has already signed the best FA deal of the off season and stabilized the left side. Tanev is being shopped. There won't be a better d man for a cup contender to pick up, 1 year left on a good cap hit. Great shot suppression guy and we need a different fit. JB would be negligent if he wasnt aggressively targeting lots of players.
  20. So, not supporting or really even talking about the 'new' NHL. Just referring to it is passing as I lay out why I am not for trading assets for Ghost. We would have the smallest d in the league.... pun intended. No one wants that, no matter what your wives tell.you... no one. I don't think we want anymore small NHL d men with Hughes and Stecher on the roster.
  21. I would be down with that move. Risto is a guy I would be very happy adding to our blue line. Buffalo is the Edmonton of the east, just slightly ahead of the Oilers and just as likely to mess up a top prospect. They also make bad trades...
  22. With Hughes already on the left side, is Ghost the guy to go for? We also have Stecher on the right side. Add Tanev and add Ghost... all of a sudden we are the smurfs. That's two guys that represent the new NHL, but we are a western team that will get into very physical games. I don't think we can add Ghost without getting run. OJ is a depth guy this season, that is something we need and he is going to get better and better. Ditto for Gaudette. It took a long time to add blue chip players like that to our roster. Make deals, sure, but dont mortgage the future. Now if JB has deals in place for Stecher and or Tanev tp replace and is bring Trymakin back now plus Schenn and going hard after some addition D men like Edler and ar least one more top 4 FA d man or make a big trade. If Ghost is being sought, then the only current roster D man I can pen into the lineup is Hughes. Not q bad thing, if its broke fix it, but that is an ambitious move and IMO would require alot of additional moves to truly make sense.
  23. Nope to both. Demko is just a smidge below Bo, Brock, Elias and Quinn. Demko, OJ, Gaudette, Woo, Madden, Virtannen and Dipeitro are all close together in value to our franchise at the moment. They all represent cost effective assets that have increasing value. Unless we get a similar asset back or a much better hard to find can't miss younger player that has certainty to their game. In either deal above, the other team will make off like bandits. Maybe not in year one, but by year 2 and beyond we will look foolish and short sighted. Mad Mike would though, so that's one GM that would go for those moves.
