I didn't see that. Sven's PPG averaged out over a season was pretty good. He has the skills to mesh with lots of guys. Not being in the lineup due to injury wasn't going to help things along and all season I felt Goldy was a stand in till Baer made it back. Baer is a responsible player and he could fit in with either Bo or EP40. Pearson could be added to EP40's line for size and a net presence. I would honestly like to see JV Bo and Baer play together for a bit. A promising blend of attributes along with two way play. Start Pearson with Ep40 and Brock. Provided that health isnt a concern, I would be happy with that top 6 for now.

2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC
Phat Fingers replied to Qwags's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
My point was that the cali teams were all really good and the increased competition made them all better. This was in reference to the Oilers when and if the finally getting a decent team and how it's a good thing for the Canucks. If the Oilers, Flames, Jets and Seattle are good teams, we will see our young core learn to battle. One of the knocks against the last core was the easy wins they had in their own division. -

I wasnt referring to this year... I kinda thought it was obvious. LA won 2 cups, the ducks were a force and contender for years and SJ is finally into a west final. -
So...... I doubt Podz drops to 10, but if he is there, I would be very hesitant to pass on him. Not the same level and the rankings beyond the top 2 are going to be variable and very hard to predict. Wait and see.

2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC
Phat Fingers replied to Qwags's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
We need good competition to become a successful team. Having a Oulers team that can play well will help our group improve. The Cali teams all improved as a group, SJ is the last one standing so to speak, but LA, the ducks and SJ made life tough on each other and they were successful because of it. Making a western Canadian road trip a hellish experience would be a good thing. -

Agent, If you have read any of my posts, you know that I share your sentiments. Sooner or later, and I see this year (sooner) as the make or break for JB to show that his model is legitimate to ownership. The tell to me was his lack of contract extension. I hope that ownership stays out of the draft process. They will be there and Aquaman might start believing that he is a GM when he hobnobs with all the bigwigs. -
Pettersson wows on world stage ......again.

Makar is a stud. The Lanche are loaded and going to suck playing against for years to come. EP40 is our center piece and with Hughes I see us as having our Makar. JB has some luck with drafting. You have to be good to be lucky. -

I disagree with you Stawns. JB has done some very good things but has also held reign during some of the worst on ice performances in a long time in Van. He is going.into the off season without a contract extension. The signs are there that he has some expectations to meet this year. I am only a fan and I like what JB has done, but I cant see the ownership continuing the course without some serrious improvement on the ice next season. -

We have too many bottom six forwards, LE is a dead weight and we need a upgrade on our defence. I propose a Loui for Lou deal with Florida. Luongo comes here to be injured for the rest of his deal, we take cap on Eriksson and he plays out hi contract in Florida, Lou comes here for a week a year and can have daiquiris with Eriksson in South Beach. This offseason is make or break for management. I hope our group doesn't lose sight of their plan and blows things on swinging at balls. -
Unorthodox goalies have been found to dominate the league. Dipeitro has a raw game, but battles and will have access to better coaches in the Pro's. Vancouver has been a decent goalie factory for the past decade. All points to back up not writing off a un tested prospect. I am always amazed at the certainty of those that predict negative outcomes for prospects on this board.

2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC
Phat Fingers replied to Qwags's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
JB will have a ton of pressure to make some moves this off season. Draft is in Van, he is in the last year of his contract and has some unforced errors to address. One question for the draft thread, does JB hold the pick and stay pat or make a move with the pick as the center piece? Part 2 of the question, if he stays put, does he go forward or defence? If he moves the pick, does he do it for a roster player to address an immediate team need or to move up to down? If one is to believe the rumours, Panarian (sp?) is interested in Van. He would be expensive, but what a winger for Ep40 and Brock. Then there is Winnipeg and their cap crunch this offseason. Myers or Trouba or neither. Trouba has been trouble to sign Myers is an FA. They didn't get as far as they wanted this playoffs. The Jets have a tight group, but Laine is going to cost a mint to re sign. -

New hook is enticing, there is a good mix of forwards at 10, not sure about the quality of d men after Bryam in the top ten. Honestly there are good options all around. I like Krebs but Boldy, Caufield, Newhook or Zegras could be there and picked. Sieder and Broberg are kinda wildcards and Soderstrom is a guy that could.be had by trading down. -

I see NJ taking Kakko. Fits perfectly into their top line. I can never predict who NYR are going to pick with a enigmatic Russian available in their range. Podz is an enigma and Russian, so NYR are likely very interested. Hughes should go 2 if Kakko goes at 1, but it's the Rangers. -

NJ could take Kakko, NYR could like Podz (they have gone off board for Russians prior). Kakko is making a case for the 1st OA. I kinda hope Hughes slides down to 3. That would make Byram available at 4 and I want JB to make a.move with the Lanche. It's not realistic, but I am on a hockey forum to stay awake during a mandatory training session for work... snooze fest. If somehow we could land Byram, our defence will be rebuilt. Switch Hughes to right side, have him and Bryam as our future top pairing and OJ and Woo as our second. Stecher and Trymakin can be our bottom pairing. That would be a sick young defence in 2 years. -
Biggest take away, you don't actually watch him and yet you deride his play. Confirmed stat watching should be an embarrassment, especially with such an opinionated poster whom is almost always negative and mostly wrong. I will still get a laugh at your ridiculous posts. If your not going foraughs, well.you should be. Not sure if anyone here takes you seriously. You sure do go quiet when your predictions fail. Looking forward to you being proved wrong yet again.

The funny thing about Broberg and Jake is that I have often thought Jake would be more effective as a d man than a winger. Ala Brent Burns. His skating in either direction is fantastic, he would level wingers coming down the ice, plays a solid two way game and would be a decent point shot. So the Brogerg idea has merit. Having a big guy that can skate, hit and shot on the back end is valuable especially if his d partner can do more of the thinking and playmaking. Krebs is still my pick if we keep the 10 spot, but there are some interesting options. Trading up to 4 if Byram is still there would be a coup as long as we keep our core group of young players. -

Gaunce has stalled out and needs a change. He had the brains, build but lacked the intensity. He played himself back into the minors and then started working again. Gaudette passed him by and IMO that has led to him not being qualified. Thems the breaks. Gaunce could fight his way back into the NHL, but he has to battle.

Gotta agree with Rollieo, take a chill pill.

Alf, Dahlin scored the most points by a d man as an 18 y/o rookie in years. Hughes is going to be a game changer for us. Gotta say, if we landed the second best d man of the draft, I am golden with that. Last year's draft was filled with dynamic d men. Dahlin has done nothing but cement himself as the front runner.

OJ had a poor camp last year, played 18 games as a rookie and did well. He was shut down due to his knee, which could explain why he had a bad camp and why he was struggling defensively in Utica. He had trouble turning to the outside and was caught more than a few times. A bum knee could explain that. This is OJ's time to show that he gets the fitness and conditioning part of being a pro. He has the time to prepare. Pending that, I have no concerns and we have nothing but the summer to wait to see.

OJ was compared to Vlasic in his draft. If he reached the same level, win, win and win.

Not predicting it will happen. Just looking if it could develop. Interesting draft order with a team in the top 4 that doesn't really need the pick. The assets are there, it just depends on how much and if JB is willing to pay. JB is going to have to make a serrious move this off season, maybe it's at the draft.... I will go on record as saying that I am happy at the 10 spot. But it wouldn't surprise me if we moved the pick. -
[TRADE] Jet Woo traded to Calgary Hitmen
Phat Fingers replied to Gator's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If that was to occur, I think the NHL and CHL would have to intervene really hard, Calgary could see a really nasty penalty like losing draft picks and such. It would be akin, if not worse than tampering with an active player but also manipulating another league. The tin foil is so crinkly when I touch it..... It feels so good on my head and no one can read my mind.... I did wonder this thing when JB took JV out of the Hitmen and into the NHL when we clearly wasn't ready. just say no to the tin foil until we have some justification.... -

That's why if there is a trade to be made for picks 3-5 and Byram is available, slam dunk. IMO Colorado is the most likely target. They are in a win now mode and are having a stellar playoffs. CHI could go for anyone, NYR have a thing for going off board and for Russians, so the may have Podz rated pretty high. NJ could really like Kakko. With NJ needing a PF really badly, NYR being a team that goes off board and for Russians more than any other team I can think of and CHI needing help up front as much or more than defence... This draft is being phoned in atm, but there is real potential for a unpredictable start in the top 3. Next to drafting JH, the biggest splash JB could make would be getting the home town kid and a massive team need at the same time. Bryam. Not saying it would happen, but it wouldn't come cheap. Our 10th and one to two good young players and more maybe. Going to get the popcorn out and spend the day being a coach potato.
