Times have changed and college prospects need soft handling... in Boesers case, it allowed him to earn some cash and help out his family. Quinn might have similar needs. Plus it's not like we cant use his services. These moves can help down the road with other contracts and establish a long mutual relationship. It might not work everytime, but I see no issue in being a players GM during a rebuild/building a team.

I honestly had trouble seeing Dahlen and EP40 together in the NHL. The size issue is huge. Maybe that was the issue with Dahlen. Not really alot of options for him on our current roster. Dahlen might have been unhappy seeing his buddy light up the league while he is toiling in the AHL. There was friction there and the club felt that Dahlen needed to work on his weaknesses more. Hopefully Dahlen proves JB and Cull wrong, but Linus hopefully proves them right too.
-
Maybe they wanted a guy that could play sooner. Also Dahlen's pop has a long history with the organization. If Brackett and JB wanted this guy at the draft, then I am good with the move. They also have shown that if a player is unhappy they will move him. Dahlen wanted a change, so he was moved. Value is fair and Linus appears to be on a good track. Being a club that will work with players and agents in a reasonable fashion will help in signing FA's. One big takeaway from JB is that he corrects mistakes and is not prideful. His ego can handle not always being right. Look to his changing draft strategy, his ability to trade players that haven't worked out as hoped etc... He has made adjustments each year. Not a common trait in a GM.

Happy to add Pearson as we lack a top six LW. Yet to see if he can still be one. Guddy is gone, never worked, but I liked the idea and the reason JB traded for him. Ironic that he and McCann are both in Pits... hope Guddy can get his game together and we can use a 20g scoring LW. Schenn does provide some of what Guddy provided. He is priced appropriately and is fighting to stay in the NHL. Our defence needs a makeover... Stecher is staying put, Edler is going to be resigned, Hughes is coming in. If Trymakin was to return we would have an improved defence with Tanev and Hutton. We have added another forward, so who is JB moving out this offseason. More butts than chairs.

Gudbranson NOW officially The WORST PLAYER in the League
Phat Fingers replied to RU SERIOUS's topic in Canucks Talk
Hutton is a liability defending. Unless he is with Stecher, he simply isnt that good. Guddy gets Pouliot who makes Hutton look great. Unless Guddy is playing with Edler or a mobile guy, he isnt being used properly. We need help on D. That's obvious. To me, Guddy isn't the problem. Besides, move him and its open season on any Nuck. -

Have you ever been to LA, no thanks. Same for Anahiem. Miami, cant say but the team sucks. Chicago is one of the most dangerous cities in the US. -

Have you spent time pr ever travelled to other Cities? Montreal is more fun to visit, but for large cities in Canada, Vancouver is tops. Never forget winter. Crime, guns and poverty are a problem in Vancouver, but are dwarfed by almost every US city of comparison. The air is clean, if you have the cash, you can live a pretty sweet lifestyle. I would put it past almost any other NHL city except for NY and the Frisco Bay. -
He has had the tools but maybe lacked the drive or fire in his game. If he could find the next gear, he could change his future. Maybe the wakeup call has been answered.

I would not pay that much. Really, why box ourselves in if the market goes that high. Get a second tier winger for now. A guy that can stay healthy and pot 20g could become a 30g player with EP40. A JVR type player. If the FA market turns insane, get out of the pool! We could get a sweetheart trade as teams commit Cap suicide. Plus we have to already unload a few forwards on cheap contracts. -

2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC
Phat Fingers replied to Qwags's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
I would look to sign Myers for a little less, but do agree we need to improve our top pairing right side. We have depth beyond the top pairing, but without a true number one guy, let alone a top 2 defender our team is constantly out matched defensively for long periods of each game. Hughes should, if anything improve our puck possession percentage each game which will reduce our defensive exposure. By next year adding Myers would be very significant and wont add to our cap woes when our young guys are due contracts. Resign Edler for less, bring in Myers, trade one of Tanev, Stecher or Guddy. A case could be made for each one and it would all depend on what we get back. Drop Pouliot and we would some money to add to Myers without hurting our overall cap situation. A Hughes Myers pairing would be pretty good IMO. Edler can play with Tanev, Guddy and or Stecher on the second pairing and Hutton on the third with the other. OJ could make Hutton expendable, Brisbiois has shown well so far and could also be in the mix, so could Schenn if Guddy is moved. Draft a top LW at the draft that has some size to put along side EP40. If we can add a positional need with an eye on our core players for the next ten years. We have to move out forwards for next year, a few will.be moved before training camp. Sutter, Baer, Granlund, Eriksson Schaller and Goldy could all be moved. I want to keep Motte, Beagle, Roussel, MacEwan, Leivo, Gaudette and Virtannen definitely. That's our starting bottom six and a spare forward. That's a damn good bottom six. Spooner? I have no idea. We have some players who will get a look at forward next year, mainly Dahlen. Lind and Gads need at least one more year to see what's they can do. Gaunce is a meh, either way I can see him being a forward version of Biega for us. Goalie depth looks good with Marzeca (sp?) In the mix and Dipeitro starting as a rookie in the AHL. Markstrom has become a number 1 guy who could be the type to get better with a playoff format. Demko is going to get a long look at back up for the next while and the Ruskie in Utica is worth an NHL contract. Really, we are ideally suited to bring in Myers. We have a double need for size too. Especially playing along side Hughes. Not necessarily toughness. Myers has a huge wing span and can defend. Next year. LW Tbd EP40 Boeser LW Tbd Horvat Virtannen Roussel Gauette Leivo Motte Beagle MacEwan Hughes Myers Edler Guddy Hutton Stecher OJ Brisbiois Biega Schenn(?) Spooner (?) Eriksson (?) Granlund (?) Sutter (?) Baer (?) Goldy (?) Dahlen (?) Markstrom Demko Dipeitro Marzeca Ruskie We will have these guys to choose from too for forward, Baer (worth keeping if he can be healthy) Sutter (Gaudette has made him expendable), Grandlund ( I like his fit for our roster more than Sutter) Schaller... bye, Eriksson (Contract is an anchor, dont see him moved unless we are making a trade involving alot of salary coming back as a dump. That and he has been a very good bottom six player. I am happy if he sticks) And Goldy.... likely stays, chip in the Trymakin situation we should keep if we want to sign the guy( even if to trade) and has offence. With Baers injuries, I see him sticking. IMO 2-3 of Sutter, Granlund, Baer, Schaller, Eriksson and Goldy have to be traded. If we did sign Myers one of Tanev, Guddy or Stecher could be moved. We wouldn't need roster players back from any of these moves. Stack Utica with depth, get picks or truly upgrade key positions. That's what signing Myers could free up on our roster and he wouldn't screw our cap moving forward. We could be a solid playoff contender with that lineup with added depth to our syste or a good addition of picks. Cap space management is critical now that EP40 and Brock have emerged. Getting a solid minute munching all round top 2 RHD is priority number one. Then have a veteran 2nd pairing match up pairing would be awesome. Our third pairing would get alot of room to move so some offence would be fantastic. Hutton and Stecher with OJ getting some reps in, making Hutton tradable at the next TDL. I could see JB making a serious run at Myers. I still feel Karlsson would screw our cap in 2 years. -
Herp a derp. Hilarious, that is trolling 101 on the CDC. Made me laugh. Not you agent. But the tiresome debate ranking tactic.
-
True... forgot about Madden... 6 years ago he would have been our top prospect!
-
I like that mix of forwards. Spooner on Horvats line with Leivo to provide some skill. Rousel with Gaudette. We have some extra forwards that need new homes soon.
-
Our one, two, three punch down the middle could be something special. The Horvat Petey Combo is ideal when you look forward a few years.
-
At his age and contract I wouldn't trade EP40 for any player in the league. Hope I feel the same about Hughes in a few weeks.
-
I would too, but would be happy either way. EP40 and Dahlin would be pretty deadly too. IMO I would take EP40 over Eichel. When Eichel was drafted, he was supposed to be nearly as good as Mc David. EP40 is having a much better rookie season in Comparison to Eichel. While Hughes is yet to play a game in the NHL, he and Dahlin will be compared to each other, whether gkkd or bad for a while. What Hughes can do with his skating is so unpredictable and I dont know how you defend him. His shot, while frequent, isnt nearly as good as Dahlin. Having a net presence player at forward will be crucial to maximizing Hughes offence. A guy like Gads if he can ever get his skating up to par. Think Holstrom like.

Yzerman can go where ever he wants. A brilliant team builder in Tampa. Really decent guy to talk too the 2 times I met him. Very modest and unassuming, but you could tell.he knew everything that was going on around him. If Seattle was smart, they would give Steve what ever he wants to sign there.
-
Faceoffs can take some time. It helps to have extra strength. I would he surprised if he didnt find a way to be awesome at faceoffs too. The guy is unreal.
-
That would be fantastic. Hopefully JB can win one move involving a past Bruin. At least he didnt sign Lucic.
-
I mostly agree. He hasn't done well. If he had beaten out Hutton for a spot with Stecher.... who knows. He can pull a Baumgartner and kick around the league and end up in the AHL as a depth guy that never quite put the pieces together. Unless some miracle happens, his best shot was this season to turn the corner.
-
Thanks, I dont think he can use another delay.
-
The depth is bubbling up to the surface now. Hughes, OJ, Brisebios and others are all on the cusp. Add in the Russian Giant and there is some good reason to think about whom to move next year. I expect Edler to resign, Guddy to resign. Tanev could go either way. Hutton, Stecher and Pouliot are all replaceable to an extent if others exceed their abilities. Stecher is one I would want to keep, but only of there is room for him to take real minutes.
