  1. The bit of the game I saw between calls last night was the first half. The Slovaks were the more cohesive group. Whomever Hughes d partner was, he was trying to force things offensively. Hughes had to cover off for him a few times. There was that break in 3-3 by the finns that led to a great Kyser save. Quinn was the furthest from puck, but none of the other backcheckers shifted over. In the end Quinn skated past both US back checkers and disruped the shooter. Thought there was too much individual play by the US and the Slovaks played a great team game. I do think that Quinn saved the US a goal against at least once in the first half. He used his great speed and anticipation to stop some dangerous looking plays from developing, IMO.
  2. OJ is fine. According to the news he will have a full recovery. They are doing the right thing and I expect he will be fully recovered and ready before.next season. Salo played for what 13 seasons.... OJ's injuries seem to be training related. Maybe his desire to speed up his physical development needs to be tempered, like expectations for players under 21 by the CDC
  3. Boqvist didn't make his men's world cup team and play meaningful minutes. To me, Quinn's performance at the world cup showed that he was as blue chip as there was outside of Dahlin. It took a while for me to come around to Hughes pre draft. I wasnt as smart as others on this board. BTW would Boqvist have dropped the gloves on his last game. This wasn't the Latvian team, but Team USA. He wasn't just there to fetch water, but actually play. 10 months apart... WTF cares.
  4. Matt is a really good player. My only concern is about his contract demands. His dad sunk the Jets. Let's see what Matt signs for. If the early reports are to be believed, he will be after money north of 8m per season. He is after better money than Johnny Hockey with no where near the production. The very thing I was learly about with him.
  5. I am sticking with my "gut" with Tkachuk for now. Plus he is a great player to "hate" on another roster. BTW the Canucks brass did not interview Matt in the lead up to the draft that year. IMO they clearly wanted PLD and when he was taken early they went with a player that would need time to physically develop. Matt was never on their radar, even though he was a Knight and was likely ready to step in right away. If the reports are true about his salary demands, then it would reinforce my supposition that he has the traits if his father in ways I would not want in the nucks locker room. One player gets greedy, it can feed into the team culture. I would like to see Bo be the major influence on our young roster vs Matt. Added to that hindsight is always 20/20. I had these concerns at the draft. I still think there is validity to my 'gut'. Character is a major component to JB's team building. Give me Brock over Matt any day. Since Brock was already our prospect, the team could look to other needs like center in defence. Finding wingers to compliment our centers and defenders is likely the easier position to draft. Jake has taken a long time to put things together, but I believe he can play a similar role on our roster. Lind, Gads and possibly MacEwan could also become that player. Matt is a good player. He has a team that already had its key players on its roster Matt was the last piece in many ways. IMO he isnt the driver that some believe. He benefits from the top line. Calgary also has an enviable defence, good and deep. I like Matt's play around the net. That's why Gads was such a positive draft pick. He plays a similar game. Having a MT at 8-9 million, what would Jake, Brock, EP40 and Quinn sign for. It could add 1million per player. The flames are lucky that their key players are already under contract. But that attitude could be destructive in our team at this point. That is the main reason I was and am happy that MT went elsewhere.
  6. Lock, my gut has to do with his resemblance to his dad. Keith was a cancer in the Peg. I was on the record at the time of the draft with reservations about Matt in large part cause he reminded.me so much of his dad. If he didn't have the name Tkachuk on his Jersey, I would like him more. It has nothing to do with his draft position or success for a rival team.
  7. I believe he has character issues because he truly reminds me of his dad. He is a great reason to hate the Flames. It's a gut feeling about his character. He is looking for 8-9 million plus. Bye bye cap Flames, I dont see how they can afford those kinds dollars, shades of Keith. Personally I never wanted Matt. The only reason that I like Brady, is that he wants to bear his brother and he is best buds with Quinn, he can't be that bad. As for OJ, the injury sucks, but he was always going to take more time to develop, partially due to the position, secondly due to body type. The guy almost the same size and build as EP40. That was going to take time. Hard to get a read on his play this year and will have to wait until next year. Until then, what can anyone say?
  8. Hope the Zack attack gets a straight shot with Coach Green this year. He has the traits we could use.
  9. 5th, stop with the projection. I dont throw out excuses. I was never in favour of MT. Just read an article speculating that MT is after more money than Johnny Hockey signed for. That's shades of Keith. I remember what Keith did to the Jets, he was the nail in the coffin for the old Jets in the Peg. Character matters alot to this club. I have always felt that MT lacks character. Wouldn't care when MT was picked. Morons quoting morons about who hasn't played in the show 2 years after the draft... cause the skinny beanpoles were expected to crack the NHL at the same time as Chychrun? Jake is turning out to be a good player, so now OJ gets his turn in the barrel old bud?
  10. Red Herring. OJ was in Finland last year and injured his knee this year, requiring surgery. He and Bean were both considered to need more development time due to their slighter stature. His timeline was never to be in the league in two years. I agreed with the pick, McAvoy was a missed opportunity. I never wanted Tkachuk and the flames are about to find out why. There is talk that Tkachuk is going for the mega bucks. This is where he will be like his old man. That apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Brady has a different vibe to him, but MT will handcuff the Flames. The chatter has him getting way more than Johnny Hockey. Dont know how the Flames will manage the cap moving forward. MT is a chip off the old block.
  11. I think JB is going to be able to marinate young prospects moving forward. Quinn likely will.be the last guy to jump straight into the NHL from amature. Woo could make me a liar, but I will live with it.
  12. The character of the team has really started to take shape. Quinn is going to fit right in. Giant slayer.
  13. Really positive news on Madden. Live it when these later picks show some good upside.
  14. Getting really excited to see ZM grow into the type of player this team needs. Sounds like a guy that can show his value in a playoff series by wearing the other team down and still have the skill that he actually need to still defend.
  15. A defensively Asian Bieksa with a bigger hit and better skating. Basically the Jett Woo of hockey, but the size of Dan Hamhuis. Founding member and proud supporter of the Woo Tang Clan fan club.
  16. So, just throwing a bit of rational thought on the whole idea, if the FBI had a credible informant and this informant testified in front of a Republican led investigation, why no real news/charges etc...? They had 11 separate investigations into Benghazi, almost the same number into her emails, I was surprised they didn't have a congressional investigation into her bowel movements. So if the Republican lead Congress and the Republican in charge of the FBI who took the unprecedented step of disclosing an investigation during an election did nothing about this 145 million dollar treason conspiracy, it just doesn't add up. The head of the CIA and FBI were hold overs from the Bush administration's too. I am.not a Clinton fan, but I think the Orange man is a goddamn disaster too... so no horse in the race. ,
  17. That is progression. Sounds like Woo will be getting some love from the analytics crowd. One player we should all be able to agree on... what a rarity.
  18. Russia is great for the super rich, pretty $&!#ty for the average person from what I have been reading.
  19. That's alot of tin foil to wear. BTW, the uranium doesn't go to Russia, the money from the uranium sales go to the ownership. The actual uranium isn't shipped to Russia, which has it's own domestic supplies. The US doesn't let uranium to be shipped to just anywhere, no matter who owns the company mining it. I am no Clinton fan, but how does she convince Obama into the grand conspiracy, as it was his administration. Seeing how the intelligence can pinpoint who, where and when hackers in a high security Russia GRU facility hacked into the US election, how does anything like this stay hidden with a Republucan Congress with near total control of oversight... Were they too busy having 11 separate investigations into the Bengazi incident. It's no like she was under a microscope all the time... I have yet to hear any logical or rational answers regarding this apparent obvious case of high treason if true.
  20. It has been a tough education, but Virt has a complete game and is not a liability. He has the speed to never be truly out of the play. Again, no player in the top six other than Bo can play physical. EP40, Bo and Virt can factor in ways other than scoring. Jake will not be exposed in to Seatle. You cannot find players like him easily. I would rather leave Baer exposed if need be. I don't think it will come to that.
  21. So far EP40 has the same drive. He doesn't quit on the play. The kid was blocking shots plays just as hard and smart without the puck as with it. Bo is clearly the captain, should have been announced already, but the intensity he has is matched by the tenacity of EP40. Just compare their rookie seasons.
  22. Yup... been saying that for a while now. The guy is Rod 2.0.
  23. Uh Stan, your troll is showing.
  24. Had Lou really wanted to stay, dang... he would still be a better goalie than our current bunch imagine Lou Mentoring Demko... Dejavu
  25. If you go back on sentence I was talking about our top six forwards. Everything was about creating turnovers and being a physical presence in the top six... thought it was apparent, but apparently not
