I get a chuckle when I read comments that DiPietro is a better prospect than Demko. Everyone loves the shiny newer toy. I expected Thatcher to look rusty after missing two months with a concussion but he hasn't missed a beat. If anything he looks more technically sound and is staying up longer and not giving up the goals over his shoulder.

$45 for every Comets game the rest of the season isn't a bad deal though.

Feel free to shoot the messenger if you'd like but I don't agree that Lind played well or looked like he belonged last night. What I saw was a kid that got pushed around and manhandled all night long. He still looks uncomfortable and in over his head. I still think a month or two in the Zoo is exactly what he needs.

The Comets next two home games are against Eric Tangradi and the Devils but yet it's the Toronto Marlies that are adding protection to their line-up.

Arseneau would certainly addressed it as would Woods but both are hurt. I'm not a big fan of Vinny because he is a plug with such limited hockey skill but he would have gone after big # 26 on the Devils. Woods however can play on a fourth line without hurting the team and always comes to the aid of a teammate. Just a correction on Esche in that he is not involved with player personnel decisions that job would fall on Ryan Johnson. -

Here is my 2 cents on Eric Tangradi. First of all he is not a goon and far from it. He scored 31 goals last year for the Red Wings AHL farm team in Grand Rapids. He had more points than PIMs. But he is 6'4", 226 lbs and finishes his checks. The hit on Dahlen was hard but clean and the total mismatch in size and weight had more to due with the injury than anything else. After saying that he shouldn't have been playing last night because the hit on Sautner last week was not clean and a one game suspension from the AHL was a joke. The AHL has to get aligned with the NHL on supplementary discipline on illegal hits that causes injuries. Tangradi should have been suspended for at least three games. But as bad as the response was from the league the response from the Comets was just as bad. Sautner basically had his face broken in multiple places from an elbow to the face that also sent him flying face first into the boards. Not one Comet player laid a finger on Tangradi that night and again all game long last night. Even if the hit on Dahlen was clean the kid stayed down on the ice for an extended period of time before skating off wobble kneed and likely concussed. Not one Comet player said enough is enough with him crushing our players and got in his face about it. Even worse nobody even took the opportunity to drive him into the boards to let him know that they have their sights on him. The team is small and built with a lot of 5'11" wingers and even defensemen. The size that they do have is Archibald, MacEwen and Gaunce. Archie came back down from his recent call up disinterested looking and avoiding any rough stuff at all cost. MacEwen plays a hard physical game but he's still a youngster and isn't relied on to protect his teammates. Gaunce just doesn't have the personality for that type of response. Somehow someway they need to add some toughness to the lineup if they want to protect the kids. I'm not advocating for a knuckle dragging goon but someone that will contribute on a fourth line and add some protection when needed. And as far as the comment that there are two rule books....one for the Canucks and Comets and one for the rest of the leagues? That is just plain stupid. I'm sure the AHL and referees have declared open season on Comets players because they wear a Canucks patch on their shoulders. -
100% agree

Ryan Johnson confirms what I have watched. Palmu struggled with the physical part of the game against bigger and faster players than what he was used to playing against. Saying that the AHL coaching staff sucks isn't going to change that fact.

The Beard has taken on a life of it's own. -
Those exact same criticisms were placed on Travis Green when he coached the Comets and I suspect that if you go back in time you would find similar complaints regarding the coaches of the Canucks farm teams in Chicago and Manitoba before they came to Utica. The bottom line is Palmu wasn't very noticeable when he did play which didn't help his cause. When he played he was used on the second power play unit to put him in scoring positions but he didn't produce any offense when given the opportunity. At 5'6" he can't be expected to win many puck battles, which he didn't, so he needs to show some offensive skills which again he really didn't. What I don't see, or anyone who is critical of Cull, is how Palmu looked in practice. If he was having the same issues in practice that he had in games that would explain why he was scratched as often as he was. It is easy to sit back and say how does Cull expect him to improve if he won't play him. But the Comets practice more often than NHL teams do because of the AHL weekend heavy schedule and the Comets closer proximity to other teams. If he had difficulties competing against AHL quality professionals on his own team then those same difficulties get carried over to games as well. Again I don't watch the Comets practices but I do know that Cull and his staff employ a lot of drills and small area games that are competitive in nature.

I was very excited to see Palmu play before the season started but when he did play for the most part he looked like he was in over his head. But realistically a 5'6", sixth round draft choice is a huge long shot anyway. I would have rather seen Palmu sent to the ECHL a few weeks ago instead of being scratched so many times. The ECHL needs to be viewed as another developmental resource and not as purgatory where players are sent that have no future in professional hockey. Time spend with Kalamazoo would have resulted in plenty of ice time against men while learning the professional North American game. I still think that both Gadjovich and Lind should be assigned to Kzoo if only for a few weeks to get more playing time and to build their confidence. Lind played last night while Gadjo was scratched but to be honest Lind still looks like a deer in the headlights and gets completely lost in the defensive zone. He gets confused on where he is supposed to be in the D-Zone and by the time he realizes it and tries to recover the puck and the play has already moved on.

Saucerman is a fun story that has practically gone viral but he is a 26 year old journeyman that has bounced around between three different ECHL teams while being a short term PTO plug in for six different AHL teams now and never getting more than 8 games for any of them before being released. I just hope he can hold his own out there for a couple games before a few Comets regulars come back from injury. -
Looks like Hughes would have to sign an ATO with the Comets and have his NHL contract start next season to make him exempt from the Seattle draft.
-
Someone can correct me if I am wrong ... @SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME I believe is good with the CBA stuff. Unlike Boeser and Gaudette who were able to burn a full year off their ELCs by signing and playing in a couple of games at the end of the season I don't think that option will exist for Quinn Hughes unless the Canucks make the playoffs. Both Boeser and Gaudette were 20 or above when they signed so their first NHL game burned a year of their ELC. Hughes will still be 19 years old and will need to play in 10 NHL games to burn a year so depending on when Michigan's season ends there will likely be less than 10 games left on the Canucks schedule.

Lind missed a bunch of games due to injury. When he came back he wasn't very noticeable and then was scratched the last couple of games in favor of Gadjovich. The following quote from Cull today wasn't specific to Lind but it does apply to him. -

Dahlen is on a hot streak but nearly all if it has been on the power play. At 5 on 5 he still fades away and becomes invisible at times. I don't think his skating is at the level where he can find separation at 5 on 5 and doesn't have the physical strength to make up the difference. He is improving but needs to become more effective at 5 on 5. -

The Comets scored on each of their first three shots and hung on from there to win by three. Seven goals from seven different players including another power play goal from Dahlen. Second night in a row where the Comets were targeted with cheap shots and lost Sautner on a hit from behind by Eric Tangradi. Gaunce even took a shift on defense when Graham and Brisebois went down but both later returned. Unlike Friday when the Comets made Springfield pay with PP goals they were only 1 for 6 last night and failed to score on a 5 minute major and full 2 minutes of 5 on 3. -

I saw him limp off but wasn't really looking for him at the end of the game to see if he was skating okay.. The end of the game got heated because Farnham is a Marchand style rat. With about 6 seconds left in the game everybody on the ice stopped skating to let the clock run out. With Blujus all alone in his corner of the rink holding the puck Farnham decides that it is one last chance to get a shot in and skates clear across the ice and nails Blujus with 1.8 seconds left. He then trash talks everyone with Demko trying to get a piece of him. That lead to the stare down at center ice after the refs ended the game with 1.8 seconds left and Demko still wanting a piece of Farnham.
