  1. Reports of Lind being in Utica last Friday must have been someone seeing "the new guy" Jasek and thought it was Lind. Good news as the Comets depleted roster could use him.
  2. I should qualify by saying that this was reported on a Comets fan group by someone that saw him in the tunnel and not mentioned by the Comets of local media. It is also possible that he saw Jasek and not Kole but hopefully they will both be in the line up soon.
  3. Lind arrived in Utica last night after the game started and watched from the tunnel with the group of injured Comets. I would think that the plan was to have him practice this week before playing next weekend but with more injuries last night he might need to jump right in tonight.
  4. That sucks. With Demko called up he may have gotten a game with the Comets if Windsor got eliminated this weekend. The Comets have a 3 in 3 coming up next week starting on Thursday.
  5. Bouch, Goldy, Sautner and Motte certainly will help. A lot will depend on if the Comets draw Syracuse or Toronto in the first round of the playoffs and what their rosters look like. The Lightning and Leads could be calling up players instead of sending anyone down. Plus what junior players will be added to those two teams will also have an impact.
  6. Agree and that can be said for a lot of prospects that have yet to play against pros. Remember the predictions for Cole Cassels in here? I look forward to seeing what Lind can do and with the Comets line up being held together with PTOs he should get every opportunity to play.
  7. Ever since the the constant Vancouver media chatter about Demko possibly being called up, which has gone on for weeks now, Thatcher's play has been inconsistent. He'll have a good game followed by a meh game with a stinker thrown into the mix. Is the constant media attention a part of that or is he just going through a stretch of inconsistency? Can't say for sure but the timing of it makes me think it could have got in his head. My point is either call him up or put an end to the story by making a clear statement that the plan is for Demko to remain in Utica the rest of the season barring any goaltender injuries in Vancouver. But these wishy washy responses from Vancouver's management and coaching staff just keeps the Twitter and talk radio stories continue almost every other day. There is just over a week left in the NHL season and there is still no definitive answer as to what the plan is for Demko. Cloutier makes it sound like there is no plan to call him up but doesn't come right out and say it. This has to be very distracting for Demko.
  8. A top 10 pick for Tanev? Does Vancouver have to pick up the health insurance premiums as part of the deal?
  9. I've only half paid attention to the Palmy thread. Is he able to join the Comets after his season ends or does his two year contract in Finland make that not possible?
  10. Not any tougher than Buffalo right now. Believe me I'm a Sabres fan.
  11. Same situation as Gaudette. Borgen is a mid round pick that excelled in college....he made the USA Olympic roster. He is a junior and his college team was just eliminated from the NCAA tournament. By convincing him to go this route Will will get his professional development aided by playing significant playoff games in Rochester instead of meaningless NHL in Buffalo which is a dumpster fire right now as they battle Vancouver for 31st place. The Sabres don't give up a year of his ELC and won't have to protect him in an expansion draft. The Canucks need to stop with the inferiority complex and negotiate with strength and conviction that this is in the player's best interest as well as the team's best interest.
  12. NCAA rules do not allow a player to play in a pro league and the return to play the next year in college. The term ATO is more a technical term because he is coming from amateur hockey unlike PTO coming from a pro league like the ECHL.
  13. No he cannot play in the AHL and play college hockey next season. He would sign an ELC starting in 2018-19 and the AHL contract for this season. He would not burn a year off his ELC and would not have to be protected in the likely upcoming expansion draft. This is exactly what Buffalo just did today with Will Borgen. Gaudette isn't going back to college for his senior year and its up to Benning on selling him that the experience of the AHL playoffs for his development is in his best interest.
  14. If a NCAA college player signs a professional contract they lose their college hockey eligibility and cannot play anymore. They would also lose their athletic scholarship so if he went back to school to continue his coursework it would be in his own dime or any academic scholarships they give him.
  15. He could qualify for the AHL playoff roster at any time including after the playoffs start but only if he signed an ATO with the Comets for the rest of the season and his ELC with the Canucks starting in the 2018-19 season. Recent examples are Zach Werenski and Dylan Larkin both of whom went on to have solid NHL rookie seasons the following year. In the case of Werenski he helped guide his Lake Erie team to a Calder Cup championship after leaving college in 2016. If Benning has any negotiating skills he would use Werenski and Larkin as examples of how it benefited their early careers by getting that AHL playoff experience before coming to their first NHL training camp the next season.
  16. For some reason I thought DiPietro's season was over. Didn't know Windsor made the playoffs.
  17. Remember Boeser was a freshman when he won a national championship and went back for his sophomore season because he thought another year of development in college would be good for him. Gaudette is a junior so you really don't want him going back for his senior year because as a team they have some unfinished business. Win the national championship this year and have no reason to go back again next year. A couple meaningless NHL games this year for a team trying to finish 31st is far less important than making the Frozen Four and trying to win it all.
  18. Why would you not be pulling for him to experience the same thing that Brock Boeser will remember the rest of his life? The NCAA Hockey National Championship.
  19. My thoughts exactly. I'm surprised that he hasn't been added to the Comets on an ATO contract for the remainder of the season. Not necessarily to play but to practice with a pro team and to let Curtis Sanford work with him for a month.
  20. The NCAA hockey tournament starts this weekend and consists of 16 teams. It's a single elimination tournament so if a team loses a game their season ends at that point. Northeastern plays this Saturday against Michigan and if the win they play again the next day on Sunday against the winner of the Cornell - Boston University game. If Northeastern wins both games this weekend then they advance to the Frozen Four in two weeks. There is a two week gap so that the Frozen Four is not the same weekend as the much bigger NCAA Basketball Final Four weekend.
  21. For those who think Demko is ready for a call up Thatcher has been in a slump since the all star game and continues to give up soft goals. It's starting to get to him now as last night after another weak goal a couple fans behind the net started to get on his case and Demko squirted his water bottle towards them multiple times. If his maturity level isn't high enough to ignore a couple idiots in Utica is he ready to face the Vancouver media if he strings a few bad games together behind that team?
  22. There are 650 million reasons why Seattle will have an expansion team and not a relocated team. The NHL wants 32 teams and 16 per conference. After Seattle is added the relocation talks can begin.
  23. It doesn't look like his contract can slide since he turns 20 in November. From Cap Friendly. What is an Entry Level Slide? If a player who is signed to an entry-level contract and is 18 or 19 years of age (as of September 15 of the signing year), does not play in a minimum of 10 NHL games (including both regular season and playoffs; AHL games do not count), their contract is considered to ‘slide’, or extend, by one year. For example, if a player signed an ELC for three seasons from 2015-16 to 2017-2018, and their contract slides, their contract is now effective from 2016-17 to 2018-19. An exception to this rule is that if the player is 19 on September 15 of the first year of their contract, and turns 20 between September 16 and December 31, their contract does not slide. Players who sign at 18 years old are eligible to have their contracted extended for 2 seasons. This extension does not apply if the player turns 20 between September 16 and December 31 in his signing year. Signing bonuses do not slide, and are paid to the player regardless of a slide, this causes the annual average of the players contract to change, and therefore the cap hit decreases for this player.
  24. I'd love to see him but I don't believe this kid will ever play a game in Utica. If he adds enough muscle to his frame he will be in Vancouver. If he doesn't then he will go back to Sweden and avoid the North American game for another year.
  25. Time for a little Ashton Sautner love. He has been the Comets most steady defenseman all year and even though I used to dump on him he is be far the most improved player from last season.
