  1. Why do you jump right to the sky is falling outlook and assume Horvat is going on LTIR when Dorsett just suffered a career ending injury and isn't on LTIR yet?
  2. Unfortunately the rumors around Utica that McEneny is done for the year with an ACL tear proved to be true.
  3. Much better game from MacEwen last night. Played like a power forward should and didn't try and do too much with the puck. Not once did he try and stick handle through traffic and cough up the puck like he has been doing game after game. He was hard on the puck and played with his head up looking to find open teammates which was a big improvement over his recent play.
  4. I would call MacEwen a work in progress and someone trying to make the adjustment from juniors to the pro game. He is a big kid so he is noticeable out there but he has a ways to go before I would say that he is an effective AHL player. Last night he started out on a line with Chaput and Boucher so Cull is giving him every chance to succeed but I do think that he was the weak link on that line. Too many times the puck died when it was on Zack's stick. The puck handling skills are not there and he turns it over too often when trying to stick handle around AHL defensemen which is a common theme with AHL rookies. How long it takes for him to learn and adjust will be the question. I was hoping that MacEwen could be a replacement for Alex Grenier but depending on his development he may be the next Kellan Lain or Joe LaBate. He looks to have a better work ethic than Grenier but doesn't appear to have his skill level which puts him into the category of a big body grinder like Lain and LaBate. But it is very early and time will tell as to how well he adjusts and develops moving forward.
  5. Doubtful that Goldy plays today because the Comets played in Laval yesterday and spent much of the night on a bus back to Utica unless they planned ahead and Goldy took a flight from Montreal to NYC after the game.
  6. After 11 games Cassels has zero goals, one assist and doesn't pass the eye test either. He is an ECHL player that stays in the AHL because of the Comets lack of center depth and because he was a third round draft choice. He is in the third year of his ELC and though 124 AHL games he has a total of 8 goals and 19 points.
  7. Not for nothing but how can anyone be penciling an undrafted kid out of the Q with 8 total AHL games under his belt into any future NHL lineup?
  8. Well he is in Utica but I wouldn't go as far as saying he is playing in Utica. A healthy scratch in 8 of the 12 games so far.
  9. Goldobin is hilarious in this video.
  10. I share the same concerns regarding DiPietro's scrambling style and smaller size.
  11. Watched Gaudette play in Rochester last night. Good skater and overall good player but honestly I was expecting a little more. He did have two assists....the first a nice primary assist when he went down the left side and hit a trailer coming down the middle in stride. The second was a secondary assist as Northeastern moved the puck around on the power play. However I expected him to be more noticeable and drive the play more than he did especially against what should have been a weaker RIT team. On the positive side Gaudette was very good on faceoffs and did make a number of nice little plays defensively in his own end. The game was great as RIT jumped out to a 3 - 0 lead before Northeastern came back to tie it. Neither team scored in OT so the game ended at 3 a piece.
  12. Look who was in Utica today.
  13. I don't know how Derek Roy is at this point in his career or much of anything about Andrew Gordan but I can tell you that Chad Billins and Patrick Mullen are not even good AHL players. I don't see how this is a better situation for the Canucks over having Dahlen playing in North America for their coaching staf in the AHL.
  14. A couple years ago I got to see Thatcher Demko play in Rochester during the RIT Brick City game.
  15. I will. It's RIT's home coming weekend (Brick City Weekend) and they play downtown where the Rochester Amerks play instead of the smaller on campus arena. Always a crowd of 10K+ and a great time. Chris Tanev played at RIT.
  16. I'll be watching Gaudette live next weekend in Rochester and will post what I think of him after seeing him play in person. Looking forward to the game.
  17. I respectfully disagree and here is why. This to me is the difference between management in Vancouver and Toronto. If Dahlen was a prospect in the Leafs system you can bet he would be with the Marlies right now just like William Nylander before him and 18 year old Timothy Liljegren who the Comets will face this weekend. In Vancouver they let the kid have too much influence where he will play where in Toronto management determines what is best for the organization. You thinking that the logjam of left wings in Utica might have pushed him towards Sweden but I say its just the opposite. In Utica he would be playing for the Canucks coaching staff hired to develop their prospects. In Sweden he will be playing for a coaching staff with no ties to Vancouver and more concerned with wins and losses than developing NHL prospects. In Utica he would develop under the systems that the Canucks hired staff want to teach. In Sweden...not the case. In Utica he would be learning the North American game and again in Sweden....not the case. I see this as weakness by Vancouver management for not taking complete control of the development of a high end prospect and any discussion otherwise is just rationalization of weakness. This to me is Dahlen realizing that the likelihood of playing in the NHL this year is slim and he wanted to go back and play closer to home with the added benefit of being able to earn more than AHL money. This is a decision in the interest of a teenage kid and not necessarily in the interest of the Canucks.
  18. This is true. Archibald is essentially a NHL free agent right now and any NHL team that is paying attention can sign him. It is my understanding that the Canucks since they own his AHL contract would have 24 hours to match any NHL contract offer.
  19. Do you know what the most unnoticed part of this play was? Karl Stollery completed a perfect breakout pass while being run over by a freight train. I have to tip my hat to him for that.
  20. Of all the possible players that the Comets could lose because of a waiver claim Pedan would be the one that I really could care less about. I hope he makes it through but if not no big deal. He just doesn't think the game well at all.
  21. Looks like eMac is waiver exempt after all. https://canucksarmy.com/2017/09/23/why-evan-mceneny-did-not-require-waivers-to-be-assigned-to-ahl/
  22. Arch looked tentative like he didn't want to make a mistake or be called for a penalty. Just didn't play his game.
  23. I thought maybe after the season Archie had last year that he would get another NHL contract but after being unsigned much of the summer he finally signed an AHL deal with the Comets.
  24. Carcone was like a water bug last year skating around full of energy but accomplishing very little plus he spent as much time on his butt as he did his skates. He seems to excel in loosely structured prospect tournaments but now he needs to show that he can contribute in a more structured game against older players. If he can play a high energy forechecking game while not getting pushed off the puck in the d-zone and then be competent on the PK he will show real value in the AHL.
