  1. If he comes over after April 30 it won't matter. Neither the Canucks or the Comets will be playing hockey in May. He can always join them and work on his golf game though.....
  2. Drafted out of the USHL before his freshmen year in college probably had a lot of people asking Who? Great pick at 23 overall.
  3. No, waivers and the AHL/NHL roster rules for trade deadline day are two different issues. Yes players that are not waiver exempt have to clear waivers before being papered but they still actually have to be papered to be sent to the AHL at any point after trade deadline day. Even if they had no intention of sending Weber down they still could have papered him to give them future flexibility.
  4. Weber was called back up on Feb 6th so he could have been papered on Feb 29th without needing to be waived again.
  5. Can't send him to the AHL now if he was still on the NHL roster at 3:00 pm on Monday. If they sent him down at 2:59 and called him back up at 3:01 it would be a different story.
  6. They should have at least papered Weber who had cleared waivers less than 30 days prior to trade deadline day.
  7. They can't at this point. Because the Canucks didn't paper anyone to Utica the only player that can be sent down at this point is Gaunce because he was on the Comets roster at 3:00 pm on Monday and called up after. There is no one else that can be sent to Utica for the rest of the season. They need to convince Tryamkin to sign and play in Utica the rest of this season to adjust to the NA game.
  8. Granlund is waiver exempt and can be sent to Utica. Could be a playoff addition. https://www.capfriendly.com/players/markus_granlund
  9. That arena looks electric. Must be a great place to play college hockey.
  10. Demko has a lot on his plate right now. His mind is on finishing the regular season and then the conference and NCAA tournaments. After that he needs to focus on final exams. I'm sure that talking to Jim Benning about a contract is not a high priority right now and I'm not even sure if those discussions would potentially violate any NCAA rules. You are right that the Canucks need to talk him out of staying in college for his senior year and get him signed after the current college season but the fact that they are not talking right now is not something to worry about.
  11. One clarification with NCAA basketball. If you don't sign an agent a player can enter the NBA draft and decide to stay in school if they don't think they were drafted high enough. Most players though sign an agent when they declare themselves eligible for the draft. Hockey they are much more lenient but you still can not sign a pro contract.
  12. 100% sure. You can't sign a professional contract and be considered an amateur by the NCAA. They are actually more lenient with hockey than they are with football and basketball (the sports that make the money for the NCAA). If you declare yourself eligible for the draft in either of those two sport you lose eligibility and can not continue to play even if you don't sign a contract.
  13. It's not like juniors. One he signs he loses eligibility to play college hockey and he loses his scholarship. Once he signs he turns pro.
  14. We'll see how Bachman and Cannata play the rest of the season. I still think Joey will be the odd man out if Demko gets signed. Not only does Bachman have another year left in his contract but it is a one way deal. It's only $575K but if he is seen as just an AHL goalie it will be tough to move him. And as far as Demko stepping right in to be the Comets starter I don't think it will happen especially if Green is still in Utica. Travis doesn't give rookies that much responsibility right from the start. Plus he has been pretty consistent with the way he has handled goalies. For three years now he has alternated starts until someone emerges as the #1 then he runs with them. The first year Cannata split time with Eriksson until Jocke emerged as the starter. Last year Markstrom and Eriksson shared the net until Marky won the position. This year Cannata and Bachman have pretty much alternated and neither has out played the other enough to be named the starter.
  15. It's a bigger jump from college to the AHL than most people think so they will likely ease Demko in rather than making him the starter right from opening day. Look at Matt O'Connor. How many teams were trying to sign him last year? We was thrown right into the fire in Binghamton, Ottawa's AHL team. He lost something like his first 8 games and currently has a 3.55 GAA and 0.883 Save %. I even went back to take a look at Cory Schneider's first year AHL stats and he played 10 less games than Drew MacIntyre. Goalies generally take longer than skaters to develop.
  16. If Demko does sign it will most likely Bachman and Demko in Utica next year. Bachman signed a two year deal this year and they signed Cannata to only a one year contract. Quite frankly neither goalie has played that well. Bachman has a 0.897 Save % and Cannata is at 0.905 and both goalies give up far to many soft goals. If Cannata had shined then maybe the Canucks would resign him and try to unload Bachman but Joe has done nothing to really distinguish himself.
  17. Exactly what the posters from Utica who have watched him play have been saying. Gaunce needs to bring it every night.
  18. I think that is exactly the reason. Green sees Gaunce as a power forward and moving him to wing forces him to play hard in the corner and along the wall.
  19. I don't think Gaunce comes to play every night. Something is just lacking.
  20. Travis Green speaks about a number of Canucks prospects including Gaunce. Check out @TSN1040's Tweet: https://twitter.com/TSN1040/status/687769145375612928?s=09
  21. My guess is to light a fire under his ass and get him playing harder. Green wants his guys to play a hard game with an aggressive forecheck and working in the hard areas. You must win the one on one puck battles and be effective on the wall. By forcing Gaunce to play with grinders he is forcing him to play a harder game.
  22. Gaunce is centering Kurtz and Labate tonight. I guess Green hasn't been impressed with the effort level lately.....
  23. He has put up points but too many nights he looks like a spectator out there and not someone who is driving the play. I think it is safe to say that Gaunce's best shot at making the Canucks right now is in a bottom 6 role where he not only have to play well defensively but he needs to bring energy and bring it every shift. That energy is just not there from night to night. He needs to play at the same level that he does when being inserting back into the line up after Green makes him a healthy scratch or after being demoted to the 4th line. He is a second year pro now and should understand the grind that playing hockey for a living is all about. Time to kick it up a notch. AHL plugs like Hamilton, Bancks and Archibald play hard every night because they are playing for a paycheck and want to continue their dreams. First rounders like Gaunce try to get by on their skills and rest on their laurels from juniors and forget about hard work. They should be even more driven to get to the next level for the bigger paychecks, nice meals and chartered jets and leave the bus rides for the less talented but harder working AHL lifers. He shouldn't want to turn into the next Nick Jensen who didn't make it on skill alone and also didn't play with the fire needed to play in the NHL in a bottom 6 role. That got Jensen traded for someone else's project.
